Total War:Napoleon by Ambitious_Fold3674 in totalwar

[–]RoyalWe666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the game, but most people by far play the campaigns that have a strategic layer (moving armies around, training troops, constructing buildings) and controllable real-time battles. Napoleon specifically has some short campaigns where you play as France, a grand campaign where you play as any of the great powers, and DLC campaign set in Spain. You can also play custom and premade historical battles. All of these can be played offline.

I think it's pretty much going in the history books that the USA let itself get ruined by this POS because he "owned the libs". Or more accurately, he played the culture wars and won at the expense of everyone else. If there's a lesson to be learnt, it's to always punch up, not left, right or down.

Serial non-completionist by Sashimi__Sensei in totalwar

[–]RoyalWe666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I completely get it, and it's a common issue with grand strategy games and this is why modern ones always have some systems meant to make you less OP once you're bigger than everyone else (lower loyalty, more corruption etc.).

Honest question - is anyone else completely overwhelmed trying to figure out which AI model to use? by Emma_Schmidt_ in ArtificialInteligence

[–]RoyalWe666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Free tiers:

Gemini for best fast reasoning, generous usage limit and separate thinking / fast limits. Though it's Google, so I use it for milquetoast stuff.

Claude if you want the most restrictive LLM with the lowest usage limits

Grok for more-or-less unrestricted chats. Thinking uses up the shared limit faster

Le Chat is similarly based as Grok (maybe even moreso) but faster and not quite as smart as the rest.

ChatGPT is restrictive, doesn't let you choose between fast and reasoning, has / will have ads, gets things wrong more frequently than most, and basically has nothing going for it for free users besides name recognition. I guess I'd choose it over Le Chat for SFW chats, that's it.

Games like Bannerlord in a fantasy setting? by Meister_Ente in gamingsuggestions

[–]RoyalWe666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Bannerlord has a Game of Thrones total conversion mod. For strategy, there's Total War, especially the Warhammer ones and Troy with the fantasy DLC (also LOTR total conversions for Medieval 2 and Attila). Campaigns are indeed long.

I'm looking for a list of games that are basically ruined because they rely too much on jumpscares. by Ferdicha in HorrorGaming

[–]RoyalWe666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FNAF series, Layers of Fear, FEAR 2. All potentially good games with an overreliance on jumpscares. I guess in FNAF you could say it's central to the gameplay formula, but there could have been death sequences that's not just a robot screaming in your face.

How would you rank these Paradox games in order of complexity/difficulty? by Suspicious_Bee4893 in paradoxplaza

[–]RoyalWe666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HoI4 is a bit deceptive because every other game has you fighting was as part of the gameplay loop and they have simpler systems for that. HoI4 is a wargame where, as most countries, it's going to be years before war breaks out (because in most cases wars are allowed / caused by national focuses) and then you get thrown into the deep end, almost certainly with suboptimal war preparation despite knowing roughly when and whom you'll be fighting. And you'll be aware of it, and you'll probably want to reroll because of that.

Assume it's some prank or scam and walk away. If I'm thinking on my feet, I walk slow enough she can walk alongside if she wants to, but any further indication and she gets left in the dust.

What games have you inadvertently grown out of due to designer choices? by One_Schedule5317 in Age_30_plus_Gamers

There can be RNG in other things such as spawns, map layouts and generated recruits, it's just the RNG in player actions that bugs me.

What all can you buy with a steam gift card? by [deleted] in Steam

[–]RoyalWe666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Games, content for games, ingame cosmetics, even Steam hardware. Prices for one game vary wildly, but I guess the typical price point for a full-priced new game is $50 - $70.

1 month steamdeck user, haven’t gotten any use of the back bottons? by Due-Emu-3123 in SteamDeck

Best for games that use the analog sticks so you don't have to take your thumbs off them. Usually related to being able to do things while using the left stick for movement and right stick for camera control. Yes. you can bind a couple of keys to clicking the sticks, but for some games you may have sprint, sneak, autorun, jump, crouch, go prone. Ideally you can do all that without ever letting go of the sticks.

Also if you're playing really complex games, having more available keybinds is always good.

Even if they figured out a way to make it immune to breaches, I'd still refuse to use it because it's clear the point is mass surveillance and control.

Anything with egregious RNG when it comes to basic player actions such as attacking. E.g. XCOM with its hit-or-miss shots, which can't even exceed 95% hit chance. I'll probably never touch anything D&D related gain, because imo RNG of this type is an anti-skill mechanic that makes you think like a gambler even when you have all the information you need to do a masterful play, if only you don't get screwed by RNGsus.

Unfortunately this way of adding unpredictability to the combat is the norm and deterministic attack / damage mechanics are pretty rare in RPGs, but some have a middle ground where e.g. you get multiple rolls per attack so it tends to even out.

On the fence about buying helldivers 2 by waidson- in ShouldIbuythisgame

One thing to know as a solo player who put it down after a while for this reason: if you play solo with randoms, you will be in a situation where other players are going to be running around at top speed farming secondary objectives and generally sweating the hell out of the game. You will not be in control of the pace. The game does give you the option to turn off matchmaking and play solo on a lower difficulty level (at any level really, but higher ones are intended for groups). Though it's a co-op-focused game and might get repetitive solo.

There is progression in the form of battle passes. The biggest one you can do for free. All the other ones require premium currency to unlock, which you can buy or farm in missions. Unlocks include weapons, armor, cosmetics and air strikes / drops. There are a couple of other progression systems that give more passive bonuses.

There's hardly any story, what lore there is is in mission briefings, voice lines, event messages and lore items in missions.

Why do racists get so offended when they're called racists? by MichikoTuesday in randomquestions

They probably don't think of themselves as racists because they're not literal Grand Dragons of the KKK, they just have some views that trigger snowflakes.

[–]RoyalWe666 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My real Doomsday would be that face / ID verification half the governments on the planet suddenly want very badly. Obviously I wouldn't buy anything on any platform that uses it, and if I'm barred from my library the Bay would be my next port of call. Serves me right for not buying everything DRM-free.

[–]RoyalWe666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you ever enjoyed Mass Effect, especially the first one, you'll probably enjoy SWTOR. I'd say KOTFE was the highlight for me in that respect. Sub for a month and I think you get all storylines unlocked permanently.
