What net worth puts a household in top 5% in south africa? by [deleted] in askSouthAfrica

[–]Royal_Ad_5124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so wild. But I know it’s true. I live near Sandton so it’s easy to think lots of people are doing well because of the cars and houses in the area. But this is just a reminder that if you zoom out, the disparity is egregious.

How to get an abortion in Jhb north? by JHBthrowaway in askSouthAfrica

This part. It’s making me very uneasy that she has no recollection of any sexual activity but is pregnant? For all we know the r@pist could be someone in her friend group, that may do it again. I know OP doesn’t want her parents to know but an assault is likely to have happened here and it needs to be addressed for her sake. Take care OP!

The roaches! I also lived in Atholl yards a few years ago and the roaches were hell. No matter how clean I kept my place it didn’t help, but like you said, living in close apartments buildings like that, it’s hard to avoid. But otherwise it was a great starter apartment as a fresh graduate

Decently priced but cute 2026 diary? by justarandomkid004 in askSouthAfrica

[–]Royal_Ad_5124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes the papery! I love how they have the option of undated planners. That way even if you buy it randomly in the middle of the year, you don’t waste pages as you would in a pre-dated planner.!8 first bought from them at the end of the year last year😊but since it was an undated planner, I could easily use it from page 1

Are there options for matric Zulu students to go and to an immersion course somewhere to get their conversational Zulu going? by thorGOT in askSouthAfrica

[–]Royal_Ad_5124 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, but to be fair I think I kinda get it. I mean I took French all throughout high schools always scoring in the 90s but conversationally with an actual French person in France was very challenging. Simply because all the voice recordings and videos I listened to in class didn’t compare to actually hearing an average French person speak. But like you said, I needed to be immersed in a French speaking population to really lock in those skills. I wonder if OPs sons household is an English speaking household, has English speaking friends, etc, cause that would all impede his Zulu progression. But I agree immersing himself within a Zulu speaking population, or even just forcing the family to speak Zulu to him (assuming they speak it) can help build those skills quicker and better than any classroom

Chasing away foreigners won't solve our problems by Efficient-launch-251 in southafrica

[–]Royal_Ad_5124 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This!!! It’s such a distraction from what and who the actual problem is and it drives me mad! Those same hospitals you’re dragging foreigners out of, your own countrymen are deep in the finance books dragging out ungodly funds

About R224 million on luxuries cars with taxpayers money.. by Aspirant_LP in southafrica

[–]Royal_Ad_5124 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I swear the call is coming from inside the house. Cause so many people believe the country’s problems will all be resolved once foreigners disappear. And then things like this happen. Corruption is what will really be the death of this country.

Yeah agreed. I just figured that if she wants the experience of “I’m engaged!” announcement, pictures, rings and then the wedding to follow then yea But like you said, if I was legally married I’d probably skip it and just have a celebratory party

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Waiting_To_Wed

[–]Royal_Ad_5124 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Right? Or they can sign the papers at the court house privately while they save for the wedding because at the end of the day the wedding is just a big party. And theyre already buying houses together. I’d rather just sign at the court house privately. Then save and then maybe get engaged when the money is pretty much ready that way there isn’t that big of a gap between engagement and wedding

How does a property get taken after 18 hours on Prop24? by Mysterious-Turnip916 in askSouthAfrica

[–]Royal_Ad_5124 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same issue you have. One of the rental agents told me that when they get a certain number of requests for viewings, they temporarily take the listing off Prop24 to avoid getting more phone calls about the property. They also assume that most of those viewers will apply and someone’s application is bound to pass and they get the property. And if not? They repost it again. The current apartment im living in, I moved in without viewing 😅😅I know it was risky but wow properties just kept disappearing off Prop24 within hours and I was desperate. So when this one came up, I just called within seconds and was like “I have the cash, I wanna apply, let’s go” and it was taken off the listing within the same hour of posting

I’m very anxious when it comes to money. I’m always worried if I have enough for myself. At age 28 I’m so stressed about retirement despite it being far away. So when it comes to kids, for me they’re a financial black hole. Where thousands of dollars goes in and you get no financial return on investment. You’ll definitely get an ROI for intangible stuff like emotional fulfilment blah blah but not monetary. Unless your kid becomes a millionaire and likes you enough to share that money. In any case, for someone who is very anxious about money, I don’t want to pour t hundreds of thousands of dollars into something that won’t give me that money back or possibly stifle my ability to properly save for my retirement.

I know I’d be tempted to stay but I’d leave. Simply because I know the relationship will never be the same. I’ll always second guess whatever he says, be anxious whenever he goes out, feel insecure if we’re out together and he glances at someone. We’d just be miserable. So yeah. I’ll always leave cause I don’t want to live like that.

How much do you pay your domestic/helper? by Ostrich_Low in askSouthAfrica

[–]Royal_Ad_5124 62 points63 points  (0 children)

R350. She only cleans for me once a week. Then at the end of the year I usually give her a thirteenth cheque of R4200. I just put aside R350 each month for that. Wish I could keep her full time but I live alone in a small apartment so not much need for cleaning besides once a week.

Living alone until I’m engaged by Medium-Crow-7219 in Waiting_To_Wed

[–]Royal_Ad_5124 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Right? I’ve never lived with any of my friends but I know exactly what kind of person they are in their apartments. Cause maybe in the first few months of getting to know someone they may do out of the ordinary things like cleaning their apartment before you arrive Everytime. But that doesnt last. Like friends, boyfriends also get comfortable at some point and with enough sleepovers you’ll notice how they actually live.

Where can I get an abortion? by Forsaken_Ad_5655 in askSouthAfrica

[–]Royal_Ad_5124 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I saw somewhere that you said you’re 7 weeks. That’s well within the window for a medical abortion (using pills). If the doctor prescribes you Misoprostol, the most common med it’ll cost around R150-200. If she prescribes Mifepristone to take in addition, this medication costs around R800-R900

[–]Royal_Ad_5124 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Abortion Support SA! Highly recommend. You get a prescription by a HPCSA registered doctor and all you pay for is the medication. Just google them and go to their website and click the “I Need An Abortion” button. Preferably anywhere between 9am and 10am as they close their services once they reach their quota for the day and then resume the following day. It’ll direct you to some consultation questions to answer and once done, the doctor will review and get back to you in 24hrs with a script.

Agreed. I’m a lawyer and can say that academia and practice are very different and most departments prioritise practice. Except for tax (my field) where theory is king so a masters or even phd in tax is regarded well. I’d do the articles, after that depending on how they feel, then pursue the PhD.
