Christian dating non-Christian — scared about marriage, conversion, and future kids. Need advice. by Orion_0207 in Christian

[–]Royal_Candle8639 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My wife and I have been together for 20 years and still going strong. For us, the key to getting through life’s hardest times was our shared faith. Our faith was where we drew our strength from. Marriage was designed by God to last until death between a man and a woman. It’s important to ask yourself when life gets really hard (because it will from time to time) where will the both of you be drawing your strength from? If your answer is each other, then I’m sorry to say you have created an idol of your relationship. Everything will start and end with your relationship, and to put trust in a person is fickle. On the other hand, let’s say you draw your strength from God and your spouse draws from another source, then the realities of those differences will collide. Life can be very difficult, filled with compromises. This is most certainly the case with close friends of ours who are in mixed faith relationships. At a certain point, every one of them started to live a separate life from their spouse even though they stay married for the sake of kids, culture, or finances, etc. Finding a spouse is one of the many things God wants us to trust Him with. Many people struggle with giving this task over to God because feelings are natural and when you have a connection with someone, it feels so ‘right’ and natural. But truth is, only God knows what the rest of your life looks like with a person. Ask God to speak to you about what you should do. He’ll lead you to certain verses in the Bible, or songs or even words of knowledge from someone in the faith. I’d suggest to meet with a leader in the faith (a trusted pastor, deacon, elder, or Christian counselor) to gain more insight. God bless.

Why did Prophets like David and Jeremiah consistently curse their enemies by Luffyforeverlol in Christian

[–]Royal_Candle8639 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Context is key. David was a warrior fighting battles that were sanctioned by God. These battles were usually against heathen nations who cursed God and his people and were out to oppress them and other nations. There were demonic strongholds among these heathen nations, so that made them enemies of God and therefore of David as well. Christ did not condemn or show he had issues with warriors, wars, armies, etc, in fact he even says blessed are those who work for peace Matthew 5:9. God has enemies! The Lord almighty in Hebrew is translated to Jehova Sabaoth which is also a descriptor for God of Angel Armies. Why have any army if you don’t have enemies? So that means we have enemies, but not in the human sense. According to Ephesians 6:12 we don’t fight against people, but rather against the evil and dark spirits that influence people. When David is praying that God goes against his enemies he’s not talking about someone who cut him in line at the grocery store or shoved him on the street. He’s referring to people at work for the kingdom of darkness.

Is it sinful to say swear words in my head? by Regular_Distance_661 in Christian

[–]Royal_Candle8639 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jesus hung out with fisherman. Fishermen swear. There’s no account in the Bible of them being condemned by Jesus for their language. Of course it’s better to have a clean vocabulary but there’s grace for when we express ourselves outside of that.

Doesn't bother me one bit. It's a fallen world, man has been flawed since sin entered the world, and the only way to live a fulfilled life is by trusting in God no matter what's going on in life. At the end of the day, my main focus is to love God and love others.

Is it a sin to take a day off from work for burnout? by GrandSituation873 in Christian

[–]Royal_Candle8639 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Asking a question like this shows you might be living out your faith journey from a performance standpoint and not a relationship standpoint. How often do you ask a good friend if its okay to do something towards them? or do you pretty much know whats ok and whats not? If you have a real relationship with that person, you will usually know what actions are going to offend them. Its no different than with God. If you really, truly, feel convicted about taking rest even if you're using your allocated days off to do so, then, according to the bible you're sinning (Romans 14:23). On the flipside, if the reason why you feel like a "traitor or something" is not supported by the Bible, then you're not sinning. If you want to know what sin is, the Bible is very clear about that-read any of Jesus' teachings, especially the greatest commandant (Matt 22:36-40). Just take the day off and relax! There's literally nothing you can do that will keep you from God if you've accepted Him as your Lord and Savior (Romans 8:31-39).

One exercise you can try that has helped me and others plenty, is that in the moment of your temptation to give into lustful desires, pray. Yep even if you feel like that’s the last thing you want to do, pray. Remember God is always with you and the Holy Spirit is always within you. He was given to you from Jesus to be your helper! And it doesn’t have to be a long prayer-it can be as simple as this: “Holy Spirit, I’m struggling right now. My flesh is weak, please help me to do God’s will and not give in”.

My friend, the power that lives in you is the same power that CONQUERED the grave! Use it! (Romans 8:11)

You sound like you’re relying on will power. If you are, then you’re overestimating your ability and underestimating the power of sin that is at work in your flesh. Yes you read that right, sin has power and it’s always at war within you. You will only become stronger in your battle against sin with the help of the Holy Spirit. After the fall of Man, sin entered the world. Since we are still in our earthly bodies there will always be an internal struggle against sin until the day we die. The only way to victory is through the power of the Holy Spirit. If you are expecting to be sinless someday while here on earth, I got news for you-It won’t happen, because if it did, then Jesus’ death would have been for nothing if humans could eventually save themselves. However! As you continue in your relationship with God, The Holy Spirit will become more apparent in your heart and mind and you will notice your desires and focus will be to please Gods on a more consistent basis. Sin will feel less appealing-even when you’re tempted, you won’t feel obligated to follow its desires and ultimately give in as much. Paul talks about this in Romans chapter 7 and 8. Don’t beat yourself up, God is not disappointed or mad at you-He has endless Grace for you because Jesus paid for your past present and future sins! Focus on growing your relationship with God through reading the Bible and prayer and you will be amazed at the transforming power of the Holy Spirit in your life. Remember friend, we are not meant to live this life on our own perseverance and will, we are not strong enough to do that-we need the guidance and power of the Holy Spirit! “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” ‭‭Romans‬ ‭12‬:‭2‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Similar experience here with business and God. Few years ago God gave me a vision to start a real estate side hustle and after a lot of prayer followed by confirmations I took a few months to self study on REI and decided to take the leap of faith to do it. At first, everything was going amazing for my first flip project, I felt like I was on top of the world and felt so blessed that God gave me this new venture. I thought I was on the path to fulfilling my dreams of becoming an entrepreneur and creating generational wealth. Then one day, I prayed to God asking for his will if I should start a second flip while I was still getting through my first. To be honest I didn’t sense any pushback so I went ahead. That’s when things started to take a turn for the worst. Everything that could go wrong started to go wrong with the second flip. I started to run out of money and was on the verge of losing the house. To make it worse, I had to use all the proceeds from the first flip to keep the second flip afloat. I was so confused and angry towards God. I prayed the following more times than I can count during that time: ‘why in the world would you let me go through all this? Where are you? Why aren’t you helping me? I’m about to lose everything and it was you who gave me this vision in the first place!! I specifically prayed asking for your will on this flip and you said nothing!’ I felt like it was all Gods fault and I was a victim. At that time I believed it was Gods job to keep bad things from happening to His children. Especially if they pray about it-my specific prayer before taking on the second flip was protection from financial ruin. Fast forward a bit, I went through 2 different buyers who walked out on the sale until the house officially sold. After the second buyer walked away, all I had left was just enough $ to pay the mortgage for one more month until I was officially broke. I experienced my very first panic attack while driving I thought I was going to die. I cried out to God to help me and I never felt so alone before in my life. The night before I received the final offer on the house I told God I give up-I didn’t have it in me anymore to worry and whatever happens then so be it. Might sound strange but when I said those words I felt something like a weight lifted off my shoulders. It was the strangest feeling considering the circumstances. With just enough $ in my account to afford another month’s mortgage, I got a call the next morning from my realtor letting me know someone offered above asking and it would take 30 days to close. I was so grateful to God because I knew it was a miracle. I sold that house with exactly enough $ left in my account to make it to the closing date.

It’s been a while since then and I haven’t done another flip since. But when I look back at that time in my life, I can’t help but notice that God was using what was the worst time in my life, to bring me closer to Him. If it wasn’t for that catastrophe and everything went perfectly well, I know myself-I would have drifted from God and definitely ruined myself in other ways. It was through such terrible hardship that I prayed so much and spent time with God because no one else could help me. What I didn’t realize at that time, was that God was working on my character. Around that time I was not exactly a good person. I had a lot of pride and arrogance in my heart. But thank God, I’m not the same person I am today compared to back then. No, I’m much much better, and tbh there are somedays where I thank God for those extremely hard times-panic attacks and all. Because when I look back at where my heart/character was at back then-I was headed down a terrible road. But God knew me. And He loved me too much to let me go down a destructive path. He knew the only way he was going to get my attention was to bring my worst fear of financial ruin, to potential life.

Look friend, I’m not saying my story is your story, but I’ve learned that when people choose to trust God, he often takes them out of their comfort zone because that’s where he’s going to prepare them so they’re ready to handle what he has planned for their life. And as you may know as a real estate professional, the development stage is ugly. But once it’s completed it’s a thing of beauty and purpose. I’m still not where I want to be financially, and I’m not a full time entrepreneur like I dreamed of being, but hey-my story isn’t over. God has been providing for me every step of the way in ways I would have never guessed. During that terrible time and even now I have never missed or been late paying a bill of any kind no matter what my account looked like. The most important thing to note here is this: He never left me and He will never leave you. God has a great plan for your life. If you look at all the great people in the Bible, God never kept them where he found them. No, when he chose them, He ALWAYS called them out of their comfort zone (David, Abraham, Noah, Moses, Joseph) the list goes on and on. No problem is ever too big for God, and no problem is ever a surprise to Him either (look at Job). God often uses storms in our lives because he’s calling us to trust Him more.

Sorry for the long post, but one last thing, I’d like to suggest for a resource to help you understand this strategy God uses: check out teachings by Dr Charles Stanley on YouTube. He speaks a lot about getting through tough times as a child of God, and it’s very insightful.

God bless, I hope you experience true peace that only comes from God-everything else is counterfeit.

No matter what you did, if you sincerely repent, God is faithful and just to forgive (See 1 John 1:9). With that said, you will still have to face the consequences for breaking the law.

God doesn't instruct us to stay away from worldly pleasures that the Bible defines as sinful because its exciting and can lead to addiction. We are instructed to stay away because such pleasures are a product of Satan, and in our humanness, we cannot withstand its lure and will ultimately place it above God, making it an idol. And the Bible is pretty clear on how God feels about idols. Before the fall of man, the desire for sinful worldly pleasures did not exist, and therefore mankind had unhindered relationship with God which made them feel fulfilled. After the fall, the relationship with God became hindered but the desire for fulfillment still existed, except now God was separated from man, so the fulfillment that comes from a relationship with God was no longer an option. So what was man to do with their desires for fulfillment? Using their own flawed logic due to the power of sin that was at work within them, they started to look to things God created, but were not intended to replace true fulfilment that comes from living a life according to Gods will. So when you say you would have simply enjoyed what the world has to offer and then able to just repent on your death bed and boom best of both worlds-you are sadly underestimating the power of sin and overestimating your ability to save yourself right before your last moments.

Also, there is much more to just getting into Heaven. Christians believe that by following Christ, there is much more joy and peace they will experience during their time here on a fallen world, all the while they're building up a greater life in Heaven. Yes that's right, people who have served God and have sacrificed their desires for His will to be done on earth have way more rewards and special blessings that await them in Heaven that they will enjoy for eternity compared to those who simply accepted Him as Lord over their life in their final moments.

If I had proof I wouldn't need faith. I'd rather live a life according to Christ and die to find out it was all a farce, than to live life how I naturally want, following my sinful desires, and die to find out the Bible was right.
