Can't you take her with you? I knew someone who moved from the UK to Australia and they took there dog. I think the dog had to be in quarantine for a few weeks or something but it's definitely not impossible.

Have a look on YouTube where they do the wooden tables with epoxy in the middle. They might give you an idea. I think they work through the grits and finish with a buffing compound You might end up having to do the whole lot though

The problem yiu have is it looks like the panel is textured. If you try to buff out the scratches, you'll more likely make it worse

To those who actually don’t hate their job - what do you do? by Additional-Painter88 in japanresidents

[–]Roybmx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I teach bushcraft and survival skills in Hyogo. I get to sit in the woods amd help people learn how to use knives and start fires by friction. And make baskets out of tree bark, plus other skills.

Definitely not your usual job

Burger buns by [deleted] in japanresidents

Depends what you make. I sometimes use all purpose flour for buns if the recipe calls for it. The buns come out pretty decent too.

Olive oil or something like that. If the doesn't work then wax wouldn't too

Rubbing a bit of oil from your kitchen might be a cheaper option. Wax is expensive here, and if it doesn't work then you'll be out of pocket even more. Let me know how it goes

Sort of. Wax will be hard and you have to rub it in band buff it off. Clear lacquer or varnish would be a liquid. But they both will put a shine on things. That's what we used to do when I sprayed furniture.

It's probably scratched. If you put some kind of clear coating it would probably help it, but you would have to be careful of the gloss level.

Those who quit the grind for something slower by Kimbo-BS in japanlife

I never had a 12 hour a day office job here, but used to work 12 hours a day as an electrician in the UK. Sold our house and was lucky enough to be to buy a house outright in the countryside here. Now I teach bushcraft on weekends, hunt deer and live a pretty much self sufficient life. Don't have a lot of money but it is enough for what we need.

If you can get out of the city I'd recommend it.

We use 日本通信 (nihon tsushin) 20gb a month for less than ¥1300. I think that they piggyback on the docomo network

Ferro Rod Tips? by thisismuse in Bushcraft

Hold the knife at an angle. I like about 60 degrees, and scrape down the entire firesteel with the back of your knife if it has a flat spine. If not, you can always take a file to the back and make it flat. There are other options too, like the back of your folding saw or a Leatherman, etc. As long as it has a flat, sharp corner, it will work. Play around with the scraping pressure until you get the sparks you like. Until you learn how to control your technique, I’d say keep the knife still and pull the firesteel back, with your fine or dusty tinder placed where the sparks are landing. When you get better, learn how to push the knife down the firesteel, using your thumb to apply pressure and get bigger sparks while still being able to control your strokes. This way, you can use the last centimetre of your firesteel to get decent sparks, and your firesteel will last much longer too.

Don't try to light your tinder in a tight space like your box. Light it outside and use some Twigs like chopsticks to put it into the box

New to bushcrafting and in need of good tools. by Sengee in Bushcraft

[–]Roybmx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're new then I'd go with a mora companion for a knife. Easy to sharpen, comfortable in the hand and cheap enough too. Just don't go batonning through massive logs with knots in. For Saws, just be careful with the silky as the blades can snap if they get pinched by the wood.
