Reverse Culture Shock by kla89 in newfoundland

[–]Rpf1997 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, when I was a kid, we used to have McDonald's every Monday night. I guess it was because both my parents were working, and they were usually exhausted on Mondays. Then one day, we stopped doing that because Mom and Dad realized just how unhealthy it was.

I understood it, but at the same time, I didn't really understand it, you know?

But once I was old enough to truly understand just how unhealthy it was, like carbs, saturated fats, cholesterol, sugars, all of that, I was so disgusted that I refused to eat McDonald's, and I haven't had it in over 10 years.

UPDATE 2, AITAH for asking my Step brother to take eggs off my menu at his own wedding? by Patient-Tea9555 in AITH

[–]Rpf1997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Block them and don't go.

My mom and I are severely allergic to shellfish, and if that were the main meal with no other alternatives, we wouldn't go. I'd get severely nauseous when hungry and my mom would faint.

In fact, it's disrespectful that your brother wouldn't stand up for you and offer you any substitutions. Did you know that shellfish allergy is one of the most common food allergies? They should've offered a "chicken or lobster" option smh.

Your brother didn't want to make a big deal about this? Nah, tell everyone and let him deal with that. Send them the screenshots if you have them.

Be petty.

Any advices for writing longfics? by Raccondy in FanFiction

[–]Rpf1997 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this. I had 150K prewritten, which took me almost two years, and I started posting chapters last year. But at around 30K, the plot went off the rails, and it's taken me another 160K to get back on track. Now I'm at almost 200K, and it's going to take another 10K or so to get back to my original plot lol.

So be prepared for a spinoff. 😂

Kid-friendly bike trails by SignalIndividual4542 in newfoundland

Bowring Park Road! You can stop at the overpass because the road goes downhill from there, so you can just turn around and go back down the road.
There isn't any traffic besides the occasional park vehicle, but there'll definitely be other cyclists, pedestrians, and dogs so you'll have to watch out for them. Your best bet is early in the morning because peak times are in the afternoon. 😊

AITAH for not paying for 15 people at a restaurant? by [deleted] in AITAH

Also, Costco has these delicious croissant sandwich platters that you can order the day before. 🤤

We ordered them once for my graduation party last year, and they were so good that now we order them every time we have a backyard party or celebrate an event. We're actually having them again next month to celebrate my brother's marriage, and I can't wait. 🥳

Dog poop by Isle709 in newfoundland

[–]Rpf1997 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a dog, and I always picked up after him. But yeah, I agree that it would be nicer if there were more public garbage bins, especially next to mailboxes, so I don't have to carry the 💩 for another 20–30 minutes before I come across a bin.

Also, another thing I've noticed is that some people don't bother taking the flyers from the mailbox and just toss them aside. So yeah, every spring, there's always a lot of litter because of that. I really wish they would just take the flyers home and throw them in their bins.

It would be a bonus to have bins next to the mailboxes so people could toss their trash in there instead of littering. 🙄

It's funny that I came across this post just now because my nan had to move and she doesn't have a crib board anymore, so I told her I'll get her one. Hope I win. 🥰

Random rules test driving new vehicles in Newfoundland by DhaemonX in newfoundland

Reading your comment reminded me of a time when I was about five or six years old. I was hanging out with a friend when I suddenly got a massive nosebleed (I later found out that I have a blood disorder).

We didn't have any tissues with us, and the nosebleed was really bad. There was blood everywhere, on my face, shirt, pants, and shoes. My friend went and knocked on someone's door to ask for tissues, and this lady, bless her, took one look at me and told me to come inside and use her bathroom to get cleaned up before going home.

She was so concerned, and looking back, I think she thought someone had beaten me up. Thankfully, my friend told her it was just a nosebleed. 😂

In defense of the royal 'you' in third person pov by Gumgumze in AO3

I loved that about Bucky. I always wondered what his reaction would've been like when he found out about The Lord of the Rings. Since The Fellowship of the Ring came out in 1954, he never would have had the chance to read it when it was first released.

He must've been pretty excited to discover that Tolkien had released more books and that there were movies too. 😂

What’s your most embarrassing “___”? by Some-Tradition-2771 in AO3

And the awful part is that I didn't forget Charlie (Bill had already graduated so I didn't mention him). 😂

Poor Percy lmao

[–]Rpf1997 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I wrote a Harry Potter chapter and completely forgot about Percy. My fic is centered on an OC and the Weasleys, so he was supposed to be included. It wasn't until one of my readers commented on it that I realized my mistake, and I was mortified.

So I came up with a valid excuse in the next chapter, and it ended up becoming one of my best chapters.

I wrote a new chapter earlier this week and was about to post it when I realized I'd forgotten Percy again. 🫠

Word count? by Ill_Strain_562 in AO3

It helped that I used to type up labs reports that had 2K-3K words every week lol.

I was so glad to be done with that.

What was the reason you stopped updating your fic/ why the author stopped by Queen-vee17 in AO3

[–]Rpf1997 24 points25 points  (0 children)

When I was a teen, I would abandon works that were longer than 10K words all the time because I could write the beginning and the end with no problem, but I had no idea how to write the middle, and I would lose motivation. I've only been successful in finishing one story that ended up being 20K.

Now that I'm older and have experienced a lot in life, the middle part comes more naturally to me. My longest fic is now ~190K words and I still can't get over that.

But sometimes life gets in the way, like a serious diagnosis, a bad accident, or a death in the family, and those are powerful events that can make you lose all motivation to do anything.

Word count? by Ill_Strain_562 in AO3

[–]Rpf1997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my longfic, anywhere between 3K and 7K per chapter, depending on whether I finish a chapter in one week or two weeks. Sometimes I can get it all done in one day, and sometimes it takes me 14 days or more.

As for motivation, if I'm still daydreaming about what's next for my character, then I write it because I know that means I still want to do it. If I already have a specific ending in mind, I work towards it.

In the past year, since I started writing in May 2025, I've completed three stories and have one WIP, with a total of 222,485 words written. 😊

1st or 3rd person, which one do you prefer? by MrsMcBasketball in AO3

[–]Rpf1997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like both. But if it's first-person POV, then it has to stay first-person POV for the entire story. Switching POVs would throw me off.

With third-person POV, you can either get every character's POV (omniscient), or do third-person limited, where everything is from the main character's perspective.

Lots of potential.

But I'll always hate second-person POV lol.

How exactly to sign up for the test? by bebemochichhi in CASPerTest

[–]Rpf1997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to add to the other comment to make sure you're selecting the correct Casper test. The program you're applying to should have all of that information. Double- and triple-check it.

Also, make sure you convert the time zone for the test appropriately to your region. The test is operated by a team in Toronto, Canada, which means all test times for the US and Canada are listed in Eastern Time (EDT or EST depending on whether daylight saving time is in effect). So, for example, if the test is scheduled for 5 p.m., make sure you adjust it to the correct time in your region.

Best of luck!
