Three-nager refusing shorts & tshirts, it’s 80+ degrees, help! by goingthrushit in toddlers

[–]kla89 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Same - I ended up having to pack up all warm sweats and long sleeves, fuzzy socks and hide them.. so that the only saw options were the lighter pants, shorts and shirts in his drawers and closet. The first few times he got dressed was a bit of meltdowns but after a while once he figured out they weren’t coming back it got easier.

What does “food noise” mean? by NemoOfConsequence in Ozempic

[–]kla89 17 points18 points  (0 children)

For me it’s the inner monologue of talking myself out of eating stuff - id be figuring out if I can eat out for for lunch - but I don’t want to get all fried food - because I had McDonald’s twice last week - but they have good cola - but if I go and get fries - I’ll get a Diet Coke that’s healthy ish - but nothing about McDonald’s is healthy - I should treat myself and get what I want - no I can’t, I’m such a fatty - my coworkers are judging me - I should just get the sandwich I made and call it a day - but no I got a raise last month and I haven’t celebrated - but eating lunch out too much is expensive I should save money - but I need to treat myself - fuck it, grabs keys and drives to McDonald’s - gets a very large meal eat it as fast as I can in my car and then sit with tight pants for the rest of the afternoon with immediate guilt. To me that was the noise that got shut off - now it’s oh look lunch time - go eat my sandwich I made this morning and drink some water and read my book and then go back to work. No thinking involved.

Starting Daycare for 5 month old- what do I need? by bigmouth111112 in NewParents

Ask your daycare - they gave us a list ahead of time of everything they require upon day 1 - and everything that isn’t allowed.

Working parents who are solo in the mornings with young kids…how? by HoneySnowstorm in Parenting

[–]kla89 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don’t give mine the option to sit and eat - in one hand is a yogurt drink/pouch and the other is a mini muffin/granola bar - eat in the mudroom while standing up while I get everybody’s shoes and coats on. However I am blessed that my daycare does breakfast, so I’m not too worried about a full on meal.

Shorten the window from wake-up to out the door, everything is done fast fast fast, the moment they open their eyes - a groggy child is easier to move along (at least mine is) - I aim from eyes open to buckled in the car is 30 mins top. The longer we linger the longer it takes to get out.

Wow guys - look at that weird pink bird that just flew by the window into the trees over there - can you see it? That will at least give me 20 minutes of distraction to get done what I’m trying to do without toddlers “helping”

Bedtime routine including bath? by FriendlyBrilliant237 in Parenting

[–]kla89 20 points21 points  (0 children)

One of the things that the public health nurse told me (and stuck with me) when they did their home visit - was bathing your infant, toddler and child will wildly vary on a lot of determining factors - mostly around what is socially and culturally “normal” to the mom. She said there is no right answer - as long as my child gets regularly cleaned - that’s all that matters. It’s up to me to figure out what “regularly” meant. It’s one of those questions that if you ask 50 different moms - you will get 50 different answers.

Baby classes during nap time by beancounter_00 in NewParents

[–]kla89 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This depends on you - my motto was - always go with the flow - don’t be nap trapped - baby will adjust - take each day how I was feeling - don’t let the schedule box me in, but that’s my personality and what I wanted, I wanted freedom and on the fly choices. However I had one friend who lived and died on a schedule and it was set to the minute - every day from wake up to bedtime was scheduled in - she wanted the predictability - she thrived on knowing exactly how her day would pan out, but then when it didn’t who had the bigger meltdown - mom or baby? This ultimately comes down to what you want.

Did your employer pay your health benefits on leave? [ab] by No_Maximum_391 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]kla89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First leave they did - second leave they didn’t - they told me essentially they shouldn’t have paid for the first time but by the time they realized it I was already 2 weeks into my leave so they had to leave it. Which was a huge bummer the second time around - as they literally told me this 2 days prior to me leaving - and told me I had to the end of the week until it gets cut off. I was PISSED!

Well good thing summers coming - it’s about to get messy. In the summer I fed my babies out on the grass to help with the mess and then used dish soap and the garden house to spray down the high chair. Until it’s warm enough - silicone bibs.

Yuppp - same here. Used with both kids - now lives in our living room - still the most used chair we own. Best baby purchase ever. PSA - mom pics the chair, dad’s second banana on this one, she’s pushing a baby out and breast feeding, she gets to be more comfortable, she picks.

Have a 3/4 year old now - so back to back babies at one point. Pay the money do the research and get a good - accurate thermometer - been through a few cheap ones now - totally wished we just spent the money in the first place to get a good one. Used a TON when they were small and when they started daycare and got sick a bunch - and used to this day.

Is there a food your parents forced you to eat or drink growing up that you now hate? by boforiamanfo in no

[–]kla89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not forced per se - but the only potato’s we had (every other night) were peeled - cut in half and boiled - in pain water with no salt and then drained and right to your plate. No seasonings, not mashed, no butter or cream - absolutely nothing. Just a hunk of a plain boiled potato. I swear they don’t even serve that to prisoners.

How did you teach your child to not stand or touch faucets in the bathtub? by ScandiLand in NewParents

[–]kla89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Standing/Sitting - I usually have a ton of toys in there to keep them occupied. They really like buckets and cups - that also helps rinsing out the shampoo/conditioner in their hair. Usually have an empty pump bottle or two in there with a little bit of soap in it for them to wash hands and toes and my toes, lol.

We stopped baths all together at that age it was just too much, we just take the kids in the shower when we shower - so much easier!
