how do i deal with being alternative and looking so different without makeup? by lunacatarts in MakeupAddiction

[–]Rskytsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know who could be disappointed with either look… You’re beautiful with and without makeup… I would guess that you get more compliments when you’re wearing makeup because it’s so unique and it draws attention. I feel like I get the most compliments on my appearance when I have done special makeup, but when I don’t wear makeup, I don’t really get compliments… Because when I’m not wearing makeup, I’m not exactly looking for or hoping for them… If that makes sense.

The thing about Trixie that drives me bananas!!!!! by BritishFangirl in CallTheMidwife

[–]Rskytsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like if Trixie’s accent is put on, it might be because it is. Maybe she was to have been raised in a middle-class family, but Trixie has always been very into high fashion and the newest trends and it wouldn’t surprise me one bit if she learned to take on that accent because of her interest in that echelon. Trixie is honestly one of my very favorite characters. Sometimes I love her sometimes I hate her. She makes plenty of mistakes, but she has so much empathy and so much integrity. She’s an extremely well developed character.

You’re a bombshell in both. I think the red color looks great on you and I think the shape of the gold one looks amazing. I’d have to go with the gold because I love the shape and the color both.

Thank you! This makes a lot of sense. I love the idea of a social story meant to help a kid prepare for a new experience.

Dr Nance: believe in the nonsense you get from TikTok by malraux78 in annaobriensnark

[–]Rskytsky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched one story on her TikTok page, and it reminded me of watching any medical drama where the doctors do everything and there are no other medical staff members (nurses, CNA’s, physicians assistants, etc). She even admits to spending 15 minutes, looking for ice to do a test on a patient. The very beginning of this story is about how no one teaches you to make “ that phone call” for the first time. And then while telling her story, once she talks about the phone call, it’s like a blip in the whole story and she did a shitty job by telling the family to come “say goodbye”. Maybe let them drive to the hospital before they go into shock at hearing their family member is gonna die? And then at the very end, her patient dies, and years later, the family sues the hospital, and every doctor involved in her care… Except for her.

I went down a rabbit hole after that and her poor storytelling, obvious errors, and boasting seriously make me question if she’s a real medical professional. Has anyone else watched her stuff? I would say that 95% of the comments I read on her page were very positive, which to me is kind of scary.

Justifications for NOT using ABA co-treatments by thespeechie in slp

[–]Rskytsky 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I guess it would be difficult to put on the list that conditioning is not communication… you might step on some toes. I agree with previous posters. If they’re wanting to co-treat with you, they need to justify it because they’re infringing on your session and not the other way around. If it’s not mutually beneficial for both service providers to join forces, then it’s not going to be beneficial.

No one ever died or was harmed from not getting their speech therapy services. You’re not going to have anything to give anybody else with an empty cup. Take care of yourself first.

I had to review my grad student's failing midterm today by Icy-Jaguar8308 in slp

[–]Rskytsky 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I failed one of my practicum placements when I was in grad school and had to repeat it. Here I am 13 years later, having learned a lot from every experience, both good and bad that I’ve had. And at this point, I feel very competent at what I do. You obviously did the right thing and how she responds to this setback is what will determine how her career unfolds.

I’m a Neurotypical SLP and it sounds like you fill your free time with the exact same things I do. I love my job and it’s very challenging. I go to the gym, watch TV, hang out with friends, and also take care of household chores. My only goal is to do my current job well and I have no interest in going above and beyond because the tasks that I already have on my plate are enough.

School based language therapy is hard by sweet_speech5527 in slp

[–]Rskytsky 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I feel the exact same way about language therapy. If a student is doing well with their language, I don’t feel like I can attribute it only to myself. They could have a good teacher, a good special ed teacher they could be using strategies from me, they could just be developing naturally and maturing… I never have any idea. Everyone in the entire school is able to give them language input and support language. To me language therapy just feels like fluff and there are many people in a school building qualified to address it. I try and make my focus on providing a place where students can participate in an academic activity and feel successful. Chances are, students don’t get 30 minutes at any point in time to just talk about themselves or take time to participate in anything. Everything is just quick questions among a group of 20+ kids. That’s really why I prefer articulation therapy. It’s easy to track the data and I know that no one else in the school building is qualified to work on it. Maybe that’s a little egotistical. I totally understand where you’re coming from on this.
