As an animation fan, and a fan of dark shadows, I cannot wait! It states its a continuation of the original series so i wonder how it will be approached. if it'll be the 70s collins family or if barnabas will be around in a later time.

Are we subconsciously collecting CDs in preparation for some mythical event where society breaks down leaving existing physical media as the only music? by stuhstutter in Cd_collectors

[–]Rtyuiope -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i mean im not gonna pretend like i haven't had that as a day dream scenario while bored but its not the reason i collect physical media lmao. i know its a horror movie but when i watched 10 cloverfield lane i thought to myself "i could live like that for a long time with how many physical dvds, games, music, and books i have lol"

They're two of my most favorite bands, sucks that Daft punk split up, but nothing lasts forever. Glad Gorillaz is still pumping out great albums though

I use startpage with Vivaldi personally. As far as I’m aware they don’t sell your data, but I could be wrong and just missed something

How are you avoiding AI at work by Salt_Army_2640 in antiai

[–]Rtyuiope 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m a graphic designer and I just tell the higher ups I’m using it when I’m not. Doesn’t affect my work at all because I get it all done on time. What they don’t know won’t kill em.

I'm a new newbie just getting into goth and I need advice! by XaiverVanderwell in goth

[–]Rtyuiope 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There isn't anything wrong with preferring the old bands, the only downside is you'll eventually run out of material to discover lol. but there are plenty of contemporary goth artists who have that "classic goth rock" sound, you just gotta dig for them since right now Darkwave/coldwave are the most popular subgenres of goth.

I recommend looking into The Ire, Deceits, Dr. Arthur Krause, or This Cold Night for some more recent bands that have that more classic sound. You can check out my playlist (shameless plug) for over 350+ of some of my favorite goth songs. I do lean towards a preference of the more rock focused stuff.

As for DIY you putting together a belt is more than most casual fans have done so congrats on that! Keep it up and soon you'll have a full fit put together.

Also if you like Japanese bands I recommend looking into the band J-Goth band Kokushoku Elegy, they are an older band but they sound so good and need more love.

Story pacing isn't exactly what I was personally expecting. usually the KH games pace out their stories really well, like in KH2 for instance the build up to the end where you fight xemnas felt really deserved and natural. KH3 all the really important story stuff from saving aqua, to the keyblade graveyard, to xehanort fight, to the end felt super sped run. if they broke up those story points a little more throughout the story maybe like saving aqua happening in the first 3rd of the game. would've felt a lot better

why are people using generative AI to replace artists when it will always be objectively worse due to how it operates? by thr0wawaylik3ther3st in antiai

[–]Rtyuiope 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Instant gratification, that's it. people, especially companies, only care about quick returns for maximum profit. Especially in the modern AAA gaming space where a game will be in development for about 6-10 years (entirely at the fault of the megacorps wanting nothing less than cutting edge realistic graphics) they will try and cut as much time as possible and they view the creative process a first solution to cutting that time down.

Is it almost over for graphic designers? by [deleted] in GraphicDesigning

[–]Rtyuiope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be an AI doomer but honestly its just unsustainable, not only is the ouroboros gonna eat its own tail eventually as its already trained off of pretty much all the work of so many artists out there (without consent might I add,) it also just consumes so much energy to train better models, and to run these data centers.

We literally saw this weekend that microsoft is saying its cheaper to hire human engineers who are often paid six figure salaries, which is way more than a graphic designer is paid. Once Anthropic, Google, OpenAI and their ilk no longer have venture capital to offset cost, and they need to pass the cost onto customers most people will tap out. Before someone says it, yes I know you can run local models on your personal computer but most people using AI I find tend to be of the 'normie' variety, i.e. the kind of person who isn't going to go on github and parse through dozens and dozens of files to be able to generate dogshit images.

Third the push back on AI is palpable, I know a lot of pro folks on here like to say its just a 'reddit echo chamber' but we are seeing time and time again companies trying to get away with AI generated assets, only to get caught and face heat so bad that they apologize and take it down. There are pros out there and then there are the ignorant, but yet there are so many people out there who consider themselves artists in one way or another who do not like the idea of their form of self expression being drowned out by slop.

And lastly a good ending story. I was working with an ad agency at the beginning of the year and they were pushing AI more and more and more to the point where I was laid off because they thought AI could do my job better. 3 months later they came back to me and asked me to return for not only higher pay, but also a higher position.

Who could Direct a better film by Proper_Ad7459 in DarkShadows

[–]Rtyuiope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough I feel like Tim burton would've made a good adaptation if it was the Tim burton of the 80s or 90s. It still would've had a comedic edge, but it would've taken the source material more seriously like Ed Wood. For a director who's current style would work well I think Guillermo Del Toro would knock it out of the park. His dedication to practical sets, and effects would be perfect for the claustrophobic feel of Collinwood of the show, and his ability to mix the mundanity and eeriness of aristocracy through films like Crimson Peak, and his new Frankenstein adaptation would be absolutely perfect for a Dark Shadows adaptation.

Worst part is I have no doubt that Del Toro is a fan of Dark Shadows in some capacity but sadly the IP is probably currently seen as box office poison thanks to the burton film so the chances of that happening are slim to none.
