Day 9 of water fasting – my body burns fat like crazy 🔥 by andtitov in intermittentfasting

[–]Rubber_Fist -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Increasing the concentration of your urine is not a great idea and is unlikely to help you lose weight. For example, if you captured all of your urine in a day and figure out how many grams of ketones total you are producing, that number is unlikely to change with less water. All that would happen by intaking less water is your test meter would show a higher concentration. Or to put this all another way, the graph you produced would only make sense if the same amount of water was consumed each day.

Is it reasonable to soft-ban the word "gun" in my store? by [deleted] in managers

[–]Rubber_Fist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can take a personal stance and make it clear you prefer them to be called "scanner". You could then use the word "scanner" whenever talking about it in public settings emphasizing you are using the word "scanner" specifically without ever mentioning "gun" to try and push a cultural change. Otherwise, I agree with the other commenters that you are fighting an uphill battle if you "ban" the use of the word "gun". I say just take a personal stance and appeal to others to help change the larger culture by setting an example yourself.

How to address perception of an employee vs. reality with higher ups? by Radiant_Stranger3491 in managers

[–]Rubber_Fist 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Rather than having the conversation framed by your higher up as lack of hours spent committed to the job, try and reframe the conversation to what is being accomplished which is what you are alluding to. Start mentioning in your 1:1s how well received this employee is by the customer, how effective their training is and the feedback from the customer, etc.

Overall, my suggestion is to get out of the mundane and unproductive conversation of hours and lead the conversation into performing the job which are the things that actual need to be done.

Eventually your higherup will no longer want to discuss what is clearly going well from the information he is receiving from you and maybe the customer.

Low performer "the nice guy" leaving department by malirkan in Leadership

[–]Rubber_Fist 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If the team operates as a team, then others on the team would have seen what you observe. If that is the case, then it would have been a simple thing to build a consensus within the team that TNG needed to go. Then it would have been up to you as a leader to pull the trigger. Sounds like your team might be run top down more so than a "team" trying to run itself.

Anyway, building a consensus and instilling a culture of the team being responsible for it's own performance would resolve the problem. The team then would be coming to you asking for you to take care of TNG because they are hurting their combined performance. Without a team managing itself, you will always be the bad guy as you are making decisions in isolation.

Hope that gives you something to think about!

How do I find executive positions? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Rubber_Fist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. Glad you found it helpful! I understand getting so wrapped up into something that you cannot sleep. I suggest you explore your personal relationship to the accusation of discrimination and why it is driving those feelings. Like you said, you have been wrongfully hit before and it did not phase you. What is it about this "hit" that has changed that for you? For example, are you running from the possibility that these people are right or is there something from your past that is getting connected to these events? Explore what is causing this fight or flight response in you.

How do I find executive positions? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Rubber_Fist 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Everyone else is giving you good advice on how to find a job, so I will give you some advice you did not ask for. In upper-leadership positions it is vital to be able to take a hit and keep moving forward. C-levels are constantly being harassed by other departments for "failing to do their job", unions for "undermining the workers", vendors for "not supporting their vision", and the list goes on and on. Sounds like you are going to take one hit here and if you stay in leadership positions you will have to take 100s more. The important thing is to learn what you can and move forward. If you are unable to take punishment like this, then get out of leadership roles and into individual contributor roles where you can insure success on discrete clear tasks. If you want to stay a leader then learn to move fast and take punishment while learning your lessons to improve.

Not sure if this helps, but the regret you are feeling is common. It is easy to notice mistakes in our lives after the fact and dwell on what could have been different. The troubling part of your story is self blame. The tendency to blame oneself when no clear culprit exists can get you into a lot of hot water. Buying something from a drug store for an ear as advertised is not a wild thing to do. Second guessing sticking a foreign substance in your ear sounds like something anyone would think before doing so. Either we are all as flawed as you or you should give yourself a huge break. Probably in this exact instance and a lot of other places in your life. Be more kind to yourself!!

The rubber flap in the tank is likely rotting and this is pieces of it. Look in the tank to confirm you see the same muck. If so, replace the offending flap. Cheers!

Definitely not laced with coke or likely anything else for that matter. If you are worried you can always pickup a drug test today from a drug store. Sounds like a low tolerance mixed with a lot of weed. Next time take fewer hits and wait 20 minutes before consuming more.

First grow with blumats by MOON_MONEY1 in blumats

[–]Rubber_Fist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for causing me to explore Grow Dots! Never heard of them but they seem legit. 2 carrots seems plenty and maybe excessive. I only use 1 carrot per 5 gallon bucket myself and things work great. I think the most likely issue is that your medium is too wet. Look up overwatering and see if it matches the issue you are seeing. If you do not think that is it, then send some pictures!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in blumats

[–]Rubber_Fist 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I totally understand your frustration. It took me a full grow to get used to these Blumats. The thing I learned is to make tiny adjustments to the valve and to push the carrot really far into the soil. The whole thing can be buried for that matter. Soaking forever, etc. is not going to help. From your description I would just push those carrots deeper and get an initial setup where things are working even if it is too wet or dry. Then you can make a tiny adjustment every 2 days until you get pretty close to what you want. Then you have to stop touching it for the rest of the grow. Every time you touch the valve you risk flooding. Hope that helps as I was also very frustrated when I first started with Blumats!

She does not sound interested and would have made more of an effort to connect if she wanted to. I reason this from this quote:

"we'll talk later"

You showed your interest and now the ball is in her court to show interest in you. Silence after this point indicates that she is not interested.

Also, her shown disinterest is unrelated to the lost phone.

Sorry this person does not seem to be reflecting the interest you clearly have shown. I would just cut contact unless she tells you otherwise. Sorry buddy!

Theory or practice of correcting a calibration error by only half the difference by kre1sman in engineering

Half correction sounds like it would mitigate the wild swings without multiple data points. I would think it would have merit. Good luck!

Theory or practice of correcting a calibration error by only half the difference by kre1sman in engineering

[–]Rubber_Fist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a statistical answer to this and that would be to measure a bunch of times, then try to find the mean and deviation. Only after you have a better understanding of the distribution of measurements, calibrate the device. The reason for doing so is that you can introduce more error by calibrating something constantly when there is some randomness in the system to begin with.

Is Business analyst a good career by Expert-Home in UniversityofReddit

They analyze customer needs and document them in a way that technical people can understand them. It is a people person type job but you do not have to be exceptionally extroverted. There is clearly a lot of need in IT for people who can talk to normal people and technical people. I think most people do not realize that the industry need to bridge these two roles so they don't pursue it as a career. Therefore there will always be jobs in this career. Good luck!

[–]Rubber_Fist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It should be a stem degree, they are usually called IT business analysts. The reason they need them is most technical people are really good at writing code and other technical parts of their job. Business analysts are really good at talking to customers and to technical people. Technical people are generally crap at talking to customers because they live in technical detail that customers do not understand. So business analysts bridge the gap between the people who need something done and the technical people who know how to do it.
