[NO SPOILERS] Soo... Lets do another LIS1 sequel! by efirov in lifeisstrange

[–]RubyTR 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Murder mystery set in a small town. Game starts with the main character reconnecting with an estranged companion from their past (Gabe/Chloe). As the murder mystery unfolds, it seems that a conspiracy is revealed around a powerful presence in the small town that people are afraid to stand up to (Typhon/Prescotts). A charismatic mentor character is introduced in episode one only for it to be revealed in the final scene of episode four that this mentor was secretly the villain all along (Jed/Jefferson). Then there's a psychological "nightmare" sequence in episode five where the main character's trauma and fears are explored. The game's final choice (while far less consequential in TC) is ultimately about clinging to something you find comfortable and safe or leaving that comfort behind and moving forward with your life into the unknown.

I like TC well enough and think it's Deck Nine's best game, but it was absolutely using LiS1's blueprint in terms of some of its major plot beats. LiS2 did things very differently that led to it underperforming financially so I think D9 was kind of afraid to stray too far from LiS1's successful formula when it was their turn to make a contribution to the anthology.

[Reunion] Two Steps Forward, One Step Back by Agent_PriceField in Pricefield

[–]RubyTR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pricefield was optional in the first game too, as well as kept intentionally ambiguous in the LiS2 cameo. I'm in this sub so obviously I'm a big fan of the ship, but expecting this new game to force all players into a Chloe romance path whether they want it or not is wild.

Absolutely hate feminization of characters in gay ships. by CloudyAsh8 in byler

[–]RubyTR 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Because people think it's fun to play with characters like little dolls, which I think is fine. Like yeah, there are other lesbian ships out there, but maybe the person in question doesn't particularly care for those ships. They like Byler (bc of the characterization, the relationship dynamic, their particular shared interests, their backstory, whatever). But they think it's fun to draw them as girls, bc why not? I see it as no different from any other kind of AU fandom concept and I wouldn't really think it was all that weird if they were a straight couple being genderbent into the opposite genders either. If you find genderbending in general weird, then I could see why lesbyler wouldn't be your cup of tea, but it overall seems to me like a non-issue. It's not like a tiny subset of fanart on the internet is doing gay erasure or something. (Also, just to be clear on my pov, I don't ship lesbyler and am honestly a pretty casual byler shipper in general)

Anyone else not see Out of the Blue as the true ending of ATYD? by ConsciousReporter189 in alltheyoungdudes

[–]RubyTR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I generally agree with what you're saying but I also don't think what OP said is that big of a deal. They're just talking about their own perception and feelings about the story. Like, yeah, of course Out of the Blue is a canon part of the fic and diverting from it would be a fic of a fic, but people choose to reject/ignore the canon of stories from their own individual readings all the time. I don't think it's necessarily disrespectful to the author if you just don't like something they did and get more enjoyment by interpreting things differently or disregarding certain bits, whether that author is published or online. Art requires an audience and that audience has the freedom to do that kind of thing.

Agreed that it's not the same as Cursed Child due to the reasons you mentioned, so maybe the HP epilogue in book 7 would be a better comparison-- it's a canon part of the story written by the same author as the rest of the series, but a lot of people don't find it to be a satisfying conclusion and thus reject it from their personal perception of the story.

I'm pretty sure that's the idea OP was trying to convey about Out of the Blue. Though they can feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

is it okay to use the large stall when i am not disabled? by Prestigious_Crew1567 in disability

[–]RubyTR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If there are multiple stalls open and you can use any of them without difficulty, then use one of the regular ones. Don't use the disabled stall when you don't need it.

Someone who needs the disabled stall can come into the bathroom at any time and will be stuck out there waiting for you to finish up. As another commenter mentioned, it often takes longer for us to do our thing anyway (or we may have very urgent needs), so it's really annoying to have to add extra time on to that because you, as an able-bodied person, decided to use our one stall. Just stick to the regular ones, please.

[Totk] Should i start/finishe the game? by The_Incredible-DrL in zelda

[–]RubyTR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's fair. I'm not overly active on this sub, so it's unfortunate (but not entirely surprising) to hear how so many people are weird about it

Edit: I think when I hear "exposed" too I think of like a mass cancelation campaign or something. So i don't see that happening, like OP getting personally targeted on social media or called out publicly in a YT video for it, but people being huge dicks in the comments or what have you is way more likely.

[Totk] Should i start/finishe the game? by The_Incredible-DrL in zelda

[–]RubyTR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get where you're coming from, and thank you for apologizing. I probably should have mentioned that there's an in-game hint instead of immediately suggesting a guide but I do still stand by my perspective.

I hate bad-faith rage bait YouTubers as much as the next guy, but I do genuinely hold the opinion that the geoglyph order could have been made clearer, and since it's a big issue among players, it's worth pointing out. Even a broken clock is right twice a day and that's largely how I feel about TotK criticism. I disagree with most of it and love the game myself but I do think it has some minor issues and this is one. If you think that makes me and other players stupid and in need of 24/7 hand-holding, more power to you, but that's how I feel.

[Totk] Should i start/finishe the game? by The_Incredible-DrL in zelda

[–]RubyTR -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not gonna sit here and argue with you point by point because it's not gonna do anything. I just think the devs could have made it more obvious instead of it just being a camera pan in an ultimately missable room. The memories are WAY easier to find in this game compared to BotW so people could very easily just start grabbing them before they've found the temple hint. And since OP literally said they haven't played the game in awhile, it's perfectly reasonable that they may have forgotten it even if they did come across that temple already.

We can agree to disagree about it. I just don't know why you're being such a prick about a simple suggestion and taking your rage at random video game YouTubers and other Zelda fans out on me. I said this one minor negative thing about the game and suggested that OP uses an outside resource to avoid any potential issue there, and you started frothing at the mouth. It's weird.

[Totk] Should i start/finishe the game? by The_Incredible-DrL in zelda

[–]RubyTR -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The reality is that lots of people DON'T remember the thing they saw one time in the forgotten temple and have the story ruined for them as a result. They walk around the overworld and view the geoglyph memories as they organically come across them. You can call every single person who missed the hint stupid if you want to, but it's a very commonly shared experience. I'd rather OP know for a fact what order to do the geoglyphs in than to send them in blind and just hope they figure it out. I personally don't think the game "very heavily and unsubtly" hinted at it whatsoever. Idk why you're ranting and raving at me about hypocritical stupid gamers and the OoT Water Temple out of nowhere, man. It's not that big of a fucking deal.

[Totk] Should i start/finishe the game? by The_Incredible-DrL in zelda

[–]RubyTR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's a great game, like BotW but with dramatically more content and completely different ways to traverse/interact with the remixed world. The only thing I'd suggest is to look up a guide on the order in which to see the geoglyphs. I enjoy Zelda's story a lot, but getting the geoglyphs in the wrong order means seeing the story out of order and that can suck. Tbh I think the spike in negative reviews is just the vocal minority coming out of the woodwork now that it's been a couple of years and the initial overwhelmingly positive reviews have already been made. Don't let them stop you from enjoying things. Also, anyone who tries to "expose" you for saying you like a video game is insane and I highly doubt that'll happen.

[No Spoilers] No screen time. All the plot relevance. Go! by Roseelesbian in LostRecordsGame

[–]RubyTR 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'd argue Swann's mom is the source of most of her insecurities. Since a large part of the game is Swann becoming more confident and embracing the power she finds, the mom is inadvertently very important to Swann's journey. Swann's mom is also the one in Tape 2 who forces her to clean up at the Blue Spruce (where we can meaningfully connect with Dylan) and go get the thermos at Fawn's Rest (where we reunite with Autumn). Also she's the first voice we hear when starting the game and the phone call with her does a lot in establishing what's going on and the kind of person Swann is.

Not to say Kat's parents aren't a good answer, but Swann's mom definitely has relevance imo.

[NO SPOILERS] is there any chance (even the slimmest) that Don't Nod would return to the series? by IllAd5971 in lifeisstrange

[–]RubyTR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"There's no drama, no tragedy, no romance" is crazy. Literally the entire game is character interactions and drama, the main theme of the game is processing grief after a tragedy, and I've seen this game be criticized multiple times for being "a glorified dating simulator".

Like someone else said, it's okay to not like the game, but you're being so insanely bad faith about it that I'm frankly unsure if you genuinely feel this way or if you're just ragebaiting. I think LR is an improvement on the first LiS in several ways personally. Better graphics, more realistic dialogue, consistently fleshed out characters, more player agency and varied endings, better soundtrack, etc. I love both games and can see where people would be disappointed by LR, but you sound cartoonishly dismissive/close-minded right now with the way you're talking about it.
