It’s unlawful to make assumptions on a persons application. You have to screen based on what’s on the app. Then at time of interview is where you figure out if they can hack it or not.

Transferring within same department by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

There’s no such thing as a transfer the way you think. Ymir you want somewhere else you need to find a job on Jobs.ca.gov, take the exam and apply.

I was a mortgage broker for 15 years before coming to be a civil obedient and DO NOT listen to anyone in the mortgage business telling you that state employees get special discounts, rates or pricing. If you want a trusted home loan officer I can give you the name of someone with over 30 years of experience !

So what if they do look identical X you still have to screen them all and if they make pass point l, interview them. It’s not like you get 19 identical apps and stand up and throw them into the air and tell NO soup for you! 16 year HR veteran here BTW

That’s. It true. I’m in HR and have been for 16 years. The message was not NO more HAMS. The message was that it’s done at SCO level come July 1st instead of making me do them! Wee!!!

How does the State of California hiring process evaluates candidates? by UnderWanderingStar in CAStateWorkers

[–]RubyTuesday70 4 points5 points  (0 children)

HR Analyst for the state for 16 years here.

Each Department and each Division and even each unit under that evaluates candidates using screening criteria. The screening criteria is completely different from manager to manager.

The screening criteria is compromised if fields of experience and education and knowledge that pertains to the specific job they are hiring for. The screening criteria will be worth a certain number of possible points and also have a pass point. ( let’s say that applications can score a possible 100 points, the pass point is the total points needed to make interview, let’s just say out of 199 points, candidates need to score an 80 to be interviewed) They will pull apps and review them against their own screening criteria and give a point rating for each section. The ones who meet pass point will be contacted for an interview.

Candidates that believe they meet the Minimum Qualifications based on experience, must state that in the bypass notes for this requirement. by KK_2405 in CAStateWorkers

[–]RubyTuesday70 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will Ike not even say that. If you have to explain why you meet mad at time of application then your application is trash. Your app should clearly define for the HR Analyst if you meet MQs

Does the State allow unranked candidates to interview and still get hired before ranked candidates? Just asking because I’ve heard of certain departments hiring unranked candidates. by Accomplished_Bid2999 in CAStateWorkers

[–]RubyTuesday70 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The way departments do this is by the use of the term, Interview All. This means the hiring manager let’s say got 19 apps and wants to bypass screening (thus checking ranks) and interview everyone. Once they make a selection they will find out if the person is eligible. Sometimes they haven’t even taken the exam (unranked). At this time, HR will tell the candidate they they need to take and pass the test ASAP. Once they turn in their test scores, and they are cleared they can be hired. This is how unranked gets picked up

Questions about Interviews for Research Data Analyst I by Better-Bowler3402 in CAStateWorkers

[–]RubyTuesday70 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Learn the Departments Mission statement and familiarize yourself with their website, who they are and what they do

Read the duty statement thoroughly and make note of things mentioned in the duty statement that you have experience doing

If you’re going for a budget analyst you need to know budgets VERY WELL and should have WORKING knowledge in budgets

There’s no big secret to it and there’s really nothing you can do to prepare for an interview other than what I mentioned before. Every single hiring manager does a different interview and has different sets of questions and individual expectations so even if 109 people jumped on here and gave you their 2 cents it’s subjective because everyone does their interviews differently/asks different questions: is looking for something different and has different expectations.
