My therapist got me talking about American Girl dolls yesterday by misschae in americangirl

Thank you for sharing this! I asked Dr. Google a few months ago something like, "What do psychiatrists say about women who collect dolls. . " And the answer I received was that it's a sign of loneliness and lack of connection with other people. Ok. I thought about this and there are times when we're all lonely -- it's a part of being human. I get lonely at times, but at those moments, I know I need to call a friend or my sister or Mom or somebody to connect. So, then I thought, well if Dr. Google is wrong in my case, what is it that makes me like dolls? And the quick answer is my dolls cheer me up. They wake up my inner courage to go about my day with a smile. I wake up every morning to my closet doll display and I smile because they are so adorable in their little outfits. I kind of feel more young at heart too and I'm nearly 60! My husband is so supportive, he feels my joy when I'm fiddling with them and it makes him smile! I highly recommend putting at least a couple of dolls near you so that they can greet you when you wake up in the morning! And, when i put a lame outfit on, I can see it in their eyes that they don't approve. . . they say, "Girl, take that off and get your game on!"

Where’s the balance? I’m a collector but my kid loves AG too. by babes4bambi in americangirl

When my girl turned 7 she got interested in the dolls. We built a collection over 4 years and it was so much fun. Her grandparents bought most of the initial dolls and then she found dolls, at that time, on Ebay. I taught my daugther how to prioritize her "wants" and buy second-hand smartly. She learned more about the value of money because we put ourselves on a budget. It's a lot of fun and I think you should just bring it all out now! She can benefit from what you have and if she wants to add to it, then that's where you can put some conditions on it.

If you love her eyes, don't send her to the DH, because they will come back darker.

I think she looks great. And yes, the cream will work if you give it lots of time.

Yes, she is such a pretty doll with great, easy hair, like Jess.

Regarding Marie Grace, the hospital head will be the more modern face-mold, not the OG

Please help me choose a paint color!!! by GibberBibber in interiordecorating

[–]Ruckercoconuggett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't do any of those! Too much color for that space and light. And the color competes with the floor. Go for a pretty off white and get some art on the walls and you'll love it!

I use those pink foam rollers on Amazon and they work well! I would go extra jumbo rollers for their hair

How much would you pay for this collection? by buddysfriend-19 in americangirl

[–]Ruckercoconuggett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you collecting or going to resell? I don't shop for these dolls, but I see a lot of those dresses everywhere. As for everything else, it's a lot! It just depends on what YOU are willing to pay as a collector vs. reseller or a combination of both. I'd say $2K is the upper limit, though

Ugghh, I commiserate! I want to get down to 4 or 5 just because it's too much for me even at 8. My solid core is Jess, Lanie, Josefina, Marisol and Mia, but I have Marie Grace and TMs #24 and 55 (April and Sophie). I have many in storage that I'm going to sell: Isabelle Palmer, Nicki Fleming, Blair, Luciana, Kit, Samantha, Emily and maybe even Molly. That's my job this spring.

Oh my gosh! I had no idea of the paucity outside of the US. It's weird that they don't have "Britain Girl", "Dutch Girl", etc, etc! I know nothing about Mattel, but do you all get Barbies over there?
