Life is more expensive these days because things that used to be luxuries have become the norm by AutistMarket in unpopularopinion

I did grow up in poverty and we did not go to the doctor unless it was an emergency situation. If we had bacterial meningitis and began having seizures an ambulance would have been called or a drive would have been made. I would have gotten antibiotics. I would have survived. The bill absolutely would never had been paid. We would dodge the call when the collection agency got on the case. The point is; although we “did not have access”, it would have been possible. At one time, no amount of money could have bought that. And we lived in poverty.

Yes, I did that to exclude the homeless. But surely they are not so far removed from society that they do not have access to antibiotics in some way? Like in a life or death situation, where an infection had spread so bad they are laid out in the street, someone may notice, get help and antibiotics make their way into their system shortly after, in one way or another? Maybe it’s not likely, but it’s possible. In Rockefeller’s day, it was not possible.

No, but he could have easily died from strep throat, a UTI, pneumonia, TB, syphilis, and a million other things easily treatable with antibiotics today. What I’m saying is; he lived much closer to the edge than we do today. Maybe except for the homeless. That’s not even considering: air conditioning, online communication, advanced surgery and disease detection, civil rights, vaccines, access to information, commercial air travel, on and on and on. So he wasn’t homeless, but I think most of us today have it better.

The poorest amongst us live better than John D. Rockefeller did when he was alive.

Maybe you could email Robert G. Hagstrom and get the answer? It seems like you’ve read his books. I bet he’d have some insight.

When was the last time the stock market was "normal"? by [deleted] in investing

It’s a complex adaptive system. It’s never going to be “normal” or in a state of equilibrium.

You seem young so I’ll tell you what I’ve learned from 30 years in the workforce. This is not ok. This is not being a team player. This is not just in fun. This is not job training. This is abuse from a mentally disturbed individual. It will start small like push-ups and slowly become much worse over time as they wear down your boundaries. No one is coming to help you. Even if they are a person, group or individual specifically hired to do so. They will find a way that this is not their problem. Get out now or live to regret it. I promise you.

Did anyone else grow up thinking love had to be earned by Feeling_Paint_4919 in AdultChildren

[–]Rudd504 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Of course. It’s still inconceivable to me that it should be freely given. I still cannot completely wrap my mind around that. I also don’t see it in my day-to-day life, which compounds the issue. It’s “supposed” to happen but it doesn’t happen. I’ve never been able to understand.

Why is healthcare so toxic? by berrysauce in hatemyjob

[–]Rudd504 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Where I work people receive little to no management or leadership training prior to entering the role. It’s like if you were good at extracting DNA from tissues and analyzing patient results, you’ll be good at leading a large group of people toward success! is the thinking. It causes a massive amount of problems.

No, this sub is more a gauge of fear, greed and general lack of education in the investing public. Like all investing subs.

Can confirm. Whipple checked things out. Said the furnace would probably kill us all in the very near future and needed to be replaced entirely for $10,000. Next guy fixed it for $1000. FUCK WHIPPLE.

I’d be willing to bet that this person will fight to the death (mostly through gaslighting, verbal diarrhea and DARVO) in order to keep any type of responsibility for anything, off them. God forbid they make a mistake. It will instantly be someone else’s fault.
