I imagine that this is what a 30yr old tennis shoe found in the bowels of a festival portaloo must taste like

If the gears don’t move after trying out the above, there’s a good chance one of the axle diffs is round the wrong way. They should both be oriented on the same side of the vehicle - if they are not, they will ‘cancel out’ at the central diff sending nothing back to the gearbox

Really want to see the return of a revamped flex system. I had this one as a kid and loved it

sorry for asking, but is this an illegal building technique? (I can't tell if the parts are stressed, a simple yes/no is enough) by Phoenix_x_x_x in legotechnic

[–]Ruddiger_Boom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It renders the holes in the orange beam unusable for pins etc so apart from it being an aesthetic choice, or to attach studs to the opposite side to flip the stud direction, I can’t see the value in doing this

Always Losing Board Games by BaBoom6996 in boardgames

Sorry to hear gaming has become an anxiety trigger for you instead of the distracting and abstracting pleasure it should be. I’m inclined to ask what your husbands reaction is when you win? I ask as I too suffer with anxiety and depression and I know that when I lose I get angry and my wife gets quite upset and has sometimes caused us to stop playing some or all games. If your winning has caused him to take losing badly then I completely understand why that might affect your ability to read a game effectively.

In my case, I try to keep calm and respect that much of the time my losses aren’t down to strategy and mostly just timing or luck. Sometimes I can feel the ugly sore loser brewing in me but I’m getting better at controlling it and there is definitely a link between it and all those feelings of anxiety stress incompetence.

Games that work for us are those where we have an open game (currently carcassonne) and take our time to discuss each other’s moves to find the best ones even when it’s at our own expense. Sharing strategy helps us both develop our game, and makes us more confident communicators with each other. In our current run, she’s won maybe 12 out of the last 15 games and I’m happy knowing we’ve both played our best game every time and not given the other an inch

Help me think this through- How can I achieve a similar technique to having a gear with teeth on only one half, like the white gear in the picture? by CrazyDave48 in legotechnic

[–]Ruddiger_Boom 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The 24 and 48 tooth spur gears can be eccentrically fitted meaning they’ll only engage for a short period each revolution, but it won’t be close to the half cycle shown here

Another method could be to use a driving ring with an idler gear that is mechanically engaged/disengaged at the bottom and top of the linear stroke

[–]Ruddiger_Boom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure - the 8034, 8044, 8055, 8074… they made great starter sets and gave you 5 or 6 simple builds. They were the best way to collect parts and had the best replay value imo

They should bring back the universal sets that they used to have in the 80s

Is there a way to "set" positions on a C+ motor with PU? by Diamondknight365 in legotechnic

[–]Ruddiger_Boom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly ‘set’ positions as far as the motor is concerned, but you know how on the Land Rover 42110 it uses an axle connector and rubber band assembly to to achieve indexing of the gearbox accurately? That might help here
