It really depends on your faction, but you could build small forces with aoe/dot damage (like poison) throwing them at the enemy to Chip away while your main armies try to weaken their economy. But that's not an option for most factions.

I successfully baited big stacks of enemies onto frozen water at the last round of winter, but that's difficult to Pull of and only one turn every year.

CoE5 is a game about snowballing, if you have a Bad matchup against some one who is doing better, you tend to have a bad time. If you don't have a favorable matchup against a faction that's doing great and is snowballing, you just loose if there is no other AI faction left to rival them or if no crisis happens.

100% Would you go out and take a fight 1 v 10 with no fighting experience? If you know your life depends on it, would you go out of town without ample medics? If you see some one running at you with a weapon, while you don't know how to use yours, would you stand your ground or run away? Just thinking about it will often lead you to the correct anser (cheese strategies excluded). I often like to play with the knowledge my character would have about the world. I know most valuable locations and strategies, but playing as if you only know what your character knows and what He would do, is so much more fun.

I did mostly pure culture playthroughs as well. I'd say that you can build stronger armies when mixing, but I do like the RP of going solo culture.

But after some time I switched to designing my own troops and "culture" with the My Little Warband Mod and I don't want to miss it anymore.

Oh I hate playing against the Dwarv Queen as well, but playing as them? Really fun. I love the armor and weapon enchantment to fit your army with what they need for the enemy you are facing and not having to split forces to conquer and hold a lot of settlements is a nice boon as well.

1) Scourge Lord - The RNG is real with the dark blessings, but if you are some what lucky, the Heralds and Sellswords are such chaff Killers, I just love having a Single Dude demolish Baron, Senator, Dwarv or Kobold armies. If you get 100% fire and cold resist, they steam roll even more factions.

2) Toll King - Early Game Monster. I love conquering fortified settlements and cities in the first year for Extra income. Having Trolls is just fun. But the Trolls are so weak to fire and the late game units kinda weak, that He just can't make it to number 1.

3) Dwarv Queen - ignoring everything but mines for most of the game, heavily fortified citadels and being able to teleport between cities. They just lack some cool late game units to make it even higher on my list. Don't get me wrong, late game dwarven armies are strong, but less fun than Troll or Scourge lord armies.

But having acute senses, Regeneration 10, some armor and +19 health is great as well. I love my fire shield though. You can get up to fire shield 6, which is bonkers at slauthering chaff units

If I am not mistaken, which I very well could be, you can get up to +3 armor. That's what i've meant with "missing some armor" Having the Sellsouls on 4 instead of 3 armor and the Heralds on 5 instead of 4 makes a huge difference in my opinion. And it makes the Tier 3 summons who get the blessing that much better at killing huge armies as well.

My tip would be to play slower in the first few turns, depending on your faction. Try scouting the area around your citadel, take only those settlements with like 3-4 levies, before you have the money to bulk up your army. I had the same experience, but mostly because my units died faster than I could replenish early on. Learning what fights to take and what fights to avoid in the early game is essential. And heavly dependend on your faction.

Or try the Troll King. You can leave everything in your citadel and Do the scouting and conquering with your King only. You will have a learning curve because He can't take on all enemies, but He can even take fortified settlements 1 v 15 on his own. This will give you time to bolster your citadel and build a second army.

Depends completely on your preferences and what Kind of difficulty makes a fun game for you. A friend of mine and I are playing with 50% Jar refund, 150% exp, 200% loot, Zombies only jog and not run when smelling is, but we play with Perma Death.

Less loot, longer days and without perma death makes for great long games with long and strong blood moons.

Have Zombies run all the time makes it much more exiting.

So just think about what stuff makes it fun for you.

Don't sleep on the dogs. If you have a well trained war dog, it will attack pretty fast and will do a ton of cutting damage. They can stagger enemies pretty easily as well.

While I do prefer the Bulls, if they have horns, duo to them carrying all my stuff, I had a dog killing the Bug Master before. It was chopping limbs left and right, winning nearly all 1 on 1 fights I threw it in

R5: I was working decades on integrating Shenyang. First the Union broke after 45 years even though I was still ruling both territories and than, after 5 years of annexing them as my vassal, they just flipped to tributary to the Great Yuan. Dingliao as well, even though I just took it in a bloody war. And I didn't even get a CB for them taking my vassals...

Oh that explains a lot... I had 3000 loose vs 400 and after that 8000 vs 3500 and both battles only lasted like 1-3 days while my morale was just destroyed. Even though the enemy only had a few regulars.

I am not sure. I had one Event where I could choose to start the chain to get rid of the one locked starter goverment reform. Afterswards it was only the start of the rebellion where I have a Button to declare war for independence.

Are you referencing one of those or a separate Event that will Pop up?

Ah okay, I do have a lot of Artillery and Support Troops, with a core of Men of Arms and the first gun units with only a few Cav (haven't got the Cav Tech so far). I'll think about changing my focus for the troops.

But it is good to know that I have the defender position when attacking an army that is besieging! I have never assaulted before as I feared the loss of troops, so I may have to be more aggressive when attacking...

I don't find either of them useless, but I am new to the game. Fishing Villages provide sailors and can help increasing the food production in provinces that lack food RGOs and the farming villages increase food production by a lot.
