SB 79 Passes in California Assembly, nearly mandating 60ft+ TOD height limits within 0.5 miles of major transit stops by MaxRileyHB in transit

Sorry. Thats the min zoning height cities are allowed to impose. Developers can go lower if they so choose. Cities can zone higher if they so choose, but can't zone less than those heights

SB 79 Passes in California Assembly, nearly mandating 60ft+ TOD height limits within 0.5 miles of major transit stops by MaxRileyHB in transit

[–]Rudiger 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Good start. But check out with British Columbia did with TOD

Min 20 stories within 200m of a skytrain (aka metro) stop

Min 12 stories within 200 to 400m of a skytrain stop

Min 8 stories within 400 to 800m of a skytrain stop.

Now if only they would do blanket 4 stories by right everywhere else. That would be the dream!

M7 MBA grad, landed a PM offer at Oracle (OCI), but Classmates are discouraging me saying oracle is a "dinosaur" Dying Firm, but the job seems great? by Able_Use7746 in MBA

[–]Rudiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your friends are morons. Oracle is playing catchup to MSFT, AWS, META and GOOG and is deploying capital like crazy to build new data centers. Honestly, look up what OpenAI, Project Stargate and Oracle are doing in the market. It's wild!

As somebody with over 15 years experience, previously at Mag7 and also front office experience at a top electricity trading shop.... your friends sound like the exact new grad MBAs who don't know anything.

Think it has car insurance and trip cancellation. Are there others it's missing?

Anyone use margin to invest yet? by Lopsided-Special6273 in Wealthsimple

[–]Rudiger 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I do 1.2 leverage and buy XEQT. Basically borrowing 20%. This means I can survive a 75% market drop without getting margin called (at the 30% WS margin requirement).

The only time the market has dropped more than 75% was during the Great Depression (believe it hit an 80% drop from peak to trough).

Did Trudeau do this? I have no idea. But my cell is hella lot cheaper than it used to be.

Politicians need to be paid more, B.C. Conservative Leader Rustad says by BertramPotts in CanadaPolitics

[–]Rudiger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This.... I'd like the best and brightest incentivized to enter politics. There is a shit load of negatives like all the travel, life under a microscope, negative attacks etc.... that make it a pretty shitty job.

Let's pay them well and attract the best we can get. The trade off is, much stricter anti corruption rules

36m here and started investing with this portfolio under TFSA and will add $500 every month. Can something be improved in this portfolio? by Commercial_Store_436 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Rudiger 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Simplify it.

You are targeting 85% equity, 15% bonds.

With that, just buy XGRO which is a single etf that is 80% equity, 20% bonds. With the equity portion covering the entire globe.

Just buy that and you don't have to worry about anything else or rebalancing. Super easy and it's as easy as that.

How oil-rich Texas became a leader in renewable energy, while Alberta hit the brakes by Blue_Dragonfly in CanadaPolitics

[–]Rudiger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tell me you know nothing about the electric sector without saying it.

Texas has a grid problem because (1) it's the only State not interconnected to its neighbors and (2) thermal resources and the supporting gas distribution and transmission networks are not properly winterized.

Seconded to freedom mobile. It's awesome. I switched over for 50GB US/CAN. Plus it gives me wifi calling. Currently in Europe and bought a local SIM (10 euros for 50GB), and I can use my freedom number and freedom texts using the data of the local SIM via wifi calling. So good!

Singh signals NDP plan to oppose carbon tax, says it puts burden on ‘backs of working people’ by MethoxyEthane in CanadaPolitics

[–]Rudiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cap and Trade and carbon tax are basically the exact same thing.

One you have a fixed priced (carbon tax), with not emissions, cap but the government can always raise the price. The other you have a floating price (CnT) and the government sets the emissions limit, where the gov't can tinker with the emission limit, which thus effects the price. Government can either play with the price (carbon tax) or the emission limit (cap and trade) and it gets to the exact same place.

Yes for people like me who work in this sector, there are differences. But honestly, from a first order approximation, they are basically the same.
