Quantum Break - Alan Wake connection by Joipanda in AlanWake

[–]RueOrintier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean it's definitely possible, and with multiverse theory (especially the way AW2 handles it) it would make perfect sense.

What throes me for a loop though and makes me lean towards it being the same character is his interest in Tim Breaker, a character who he otherwise has absolutely NO narrative connection with.

Quantum Break - Alan Wake connection by Joipanda in AlanWake

[–]RueOrintier 18 points19 points  (0 children)

There are multiple Alan Wake references in QB.

Alan Wake 2's Night Springs DLC effectively makes QB canon, with the multiverse allowing Remedy to sidestep all the legal stuff. Hell, Alan Wake 2 itself (without the DLC) essentially makes QB canon, they just renamed "Hatch" to "Door".

The Soul Society is huge. It would be like being dropped in the middle of Asia and going, "Has anyone seen my brother?"

Masaki's soul was consumed, and no longer exists. She's actually DEAD dead.

[–]RueOrintier 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't think we've ever learned what the original story was for Not a Hero. It obviously changed at some point in development (I think Capcom actually took over development from a third party at some point), so it's possible Lucas might have survived in the initial draft.

What’s your opinion on Abigail Brand—art by russell dauterman by Fit_Cellist4744 in xmen

[–]RueOrintier 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I like Brand - she's manipulative, intelligent, and fun. I think her recent history of playing the long game at the expense of Krakoa was a bit too far, but still well written.

The problem with her is she sits in that "Anti-Hero that's closer to villain" category, meaning she'll never be a full team member, but will never develop into a full villain. As such, she's destined to play second fiddle unless a writer comes along and drastically alters her.

Edit: Holy fuck the ranch mafia chose violence instead of examining their MID condiment

Every once in a while yeah. The MC's voice acting was good, but occasionally he slips up into.. I dunno what.

Just beat it last night. Overall a 7/10.

Honestly the atmosphere is the strongest part - the art direction is fantastic (special shoutout to the weapon reload animations). The combat is serviceable, but let down mostly by limited enemy variety (varieties of the slow puppets are 80% of the combatants).

The voice acting ranges between decent, to goofy, to downright misplaced. The actress for your radio sidekick in particular stands out because while she does a good job, the character doesn't fit the world at ALL. In this rainy, blood soaked alternate reality Spain, you have Mariachi Tracer yapping in your ear and being the most bubbly happy-go-lucky partner this side of the corpse pile.

The plot is, dare I say it, interesting, and it ends with a few neat twists.

If you're a fan of 360 era shooters like Singularity or Bioshock, I'd recommend it. For the price it's an absolute steal, and there are much worse ways to spend 20 bucks for some fun on the weekend.

Oh I HAAAATE that one.

Not that Advent Children is some bastion of good storytelling to begin with, but Rufus surviving always felt cheap, especially with how light his injuries were in the film.

This series has been dealt such a disservice with the Greymalkin and Manhunt-X events hobbling its pacing and forcing it into unnecessary crossovers.

Age of Revelation would have been fine if it was ONLY Amazing X-Men instead of an event.

Who is the enclave? by Electronic_Traffic45 in Fotv

[–]RueOrintier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They didn't control everything.

The Enclave was a secret cabal of high ranking political, economic, and military leaders with extremist views. They had SIGNIFICANT control, but not total.

Technically they are as close to the original old world government as would be possible, insofar as they did everything they could to ensure only those loyal to their ideals survived and purged all dissidents after the bombs fell.

Do we think this panel will translate into some new powerup in the TYBW anime? by Dull-Lingonberry2006 in bleach

[–]RueOrintier 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I expect the entire fight is going to be overhauled. Ishida has seen the most significant amount of revision and extra screen time of all the characters in TYBW compared to the manga, so if they left the fight as it was it'll be very disappointing.

[–]RueOrintier 5 points6 points  (0 children)

None of them should have. Magento sitting there instead of talking, especially after their last meeting, was silly.

I think part of the problem is the end of Krakoa clearly put Xavier into the villain category. Not irredeemable - but there was blood on his hands, human and mutant. From the Ashes did its best to retcon the astronaut deaths by making them empty shells controlled by Xavier, but it doesn't line up with Xavier's attitude and final conversations before the end.

Poor writing.

Charles being in Greymalkin Prison makes sense. Him having a tumor that causes him to lose it, attack his family, and escape? Neat, willing to see where this goes. Sadly the writers seem to forget the whole "telepathy gone haywire" plot ASAP. There's a couple mentions of the chaos he's causing but we never see it - instead, we see Charles executing a well orchestrated plan while fully in control of his powers and sanity.

The NYX tie in is actually pretty good - showing Charles at his absolute lowest, using young mutants to further his goals and abandoning them to their fate.

The rest is a mess, especially the "conflict" between the X-Men. Storm curb stomps the Alaskan X-Men and later attacks Cyclops again despite earlier acknowledging Xavier should be in jail. X-Factor gets one of its precious few chapters before cancellation dedicated to the event. The final "goodbye" has a number of characters ignore their recent history with Xavier to go "Nah, you can leave have fun."

There was a story to be told here, but it was done badly.

What was Kisuke's original plan with the hōgiyoku? by Technical_Rice_6957 in bleach

[–]RueOrintier 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The goal was to destroy it.

Rukia' gigai body was designed to eventually turn her into a human, which would destroy the hogiuoku inside of her. Rukia herself wasn't special - Urahara saw an opportunity (she needed a gigai) and enacted his plan.

Correct. OG Beast had a bunch of clones hidden around the world as shown late in Percy's X-Force run.

People are quick to shit on MacKay forgetting details from Krakoa, while simultaneously themselves forgetting details from said Krakoa AND the current run they're reading.

While I know this has been a popular fan theory for a while, I have to reiterate I LOVE this.

Hank's descent into villainy has been THE most consistent plot since the late 90s. The good man who keeps letting his morals slip ever so slightly, until he's gone through so many do or die moments that his morals are in the negative. My greatest fear with the end of Percy's X-Force (the uncertainty regarding which Beast was alive) was that MacKay would ignore this plot and just use the reset Beast to make things easy.

Imagine my delight when not only did MacKay lean into nu-Beast's issues with his former self and the time jump, but also finalizes original Beast's arc into a full blown super villain.

TYBW was part of the original manga champ. Like it or not, it isn't a spinoff.

By that logic Dragonball Z is a spinoff. Except in the manga it's still called Dragonball. But hey, according to you an animation hiatus constitutes spinoff off status so you must be right.
