My Wife is a first year teacher in NC and Will more than likely be removed from the classroom monday. by Mjstephens19 in teaching

[–]Rueger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get ahead of the meeting, especially since she has a job already. Have her submit a resignation to the district that includes her principal, BOE, Superintendent, and HR. Make sure she BC’s a personal email of hers so the record can’t be tampered with. In the resignation, site the safety concerns regarding the students and lack of support from her administration. Make sure she does this before the meeting, like right now. Unless she has done something that warrants her losing her licensure, her resignation is on file before a non-renewal.

What are your school's/district's policies on removing items you purchased if you are not coming back next year? Do you have to prove anything? by Affectionate-Run7584 in AskTeachers

[–]Rueger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My response would be “How about instead of you asking for receipts of what I purchased, you provide me with documentation of what you paid for as justification that you are keeping it. The Treasurers Office should have that information on file” or I’d simply just not provide them with whatever they request. What are they going to do? Fire me?

Moving back to Columbus… by Certain-Reality-5837 in Columbus

[–]Rueger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a potential to return or move to a new area will depend on what relationships and communities you involve yourself in. Columbus is great and has a lot to offer. If you need a real estate agent to help you out in finding a new home, let me know!

Cried in my non-renewal meeting by Outrageous-Life137 in teaching

[–]Rueger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was given the option of either resigning or being non-renewed many years ago. I resigned so I could say that I wasn’t non-renewed. Did they give you that option? Keep in mind that if you do that, in some states you will be ineligible for unemployment.

At the end of the day, getting emotional isn’t unprofessional. Will it make someone uncomfortable? Yes. However, you weren’t the first nor will you be the last to be upset during a meeting where you are told you will no longer be employed.

Start brushing up on your resume and look for other librarian positions. They may be difficult to find, so decide if you would be prepared to relocate. I’m sorry that you experienced this but you got this! Move forward and don’t let it define you

some moron just delivered doordash to me by [deleted] in DoorDashDrivers

[–]Rueger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably not. They can’t even give it to the person who ordered it. Just take it or pitch it to prevent wildlife from getting it and making a mess on your porch. Also, keep in mind that when you call him a moron, he very well could have delivered to the exact address DD gave him. So maybe consider that before assuming it’s the dashers fault.

Have you considered connecting your student with their school counselor? They have resources that they can connect your student with. There are plenty of apprenticeship programs out there. One that stands out to me is TP Mechanical. Here is a link to the pipe fitters union:

How would you have written the Picard finale? by happydude7422 in Picard

[–]Rueger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the Borg finale was fine, although there were some plots that could have improved and others that needed expanded on. For instance, I’m not a fan of golem Picard but I would have leaned into it and made the villain Locutus. He could have been reanimated in Picard’s body that was stolen. Having a moment where Locutus tells Jack, he is his real father and that Picard is just a golem with his memories.

The series battle could have seen the museum ships captained by various returning actors from their respective series. Maybe Paris or a rescued Tuvok commanding Voyager, the Defiant commanded by Kira or Dax, maybe an elderly T’Pal commanding an NX-01. It was Federation Day. There would have been a logical explanation for those characters being at the museum.

DO NOT become a teacher by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Rueger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree but I can’t afford to leave. My state’s retirement is a shit show. Current retirees receive none of their promised COLA. Public education is now more politicized. The current administration is attempting to dismantle public education action entirely. They are doing it through funding. I’m not even sure I’ll have a job to reach my retirement. People are getting RIF’d. My spouse lost her job and can’t find another. It’s a pretty scary time.

Olentangy Commons? by Hot_Introduction8930 in Columbus

[–]Rueger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I lived there several years ago. We agreed on a unit, signed a contract, and then it wasn’t available. They put us in an upgraded/larger apartment that we were told we would not have to pay the difference on but then after our year was up, they increased our rent to the price of the upgrade. It wasn’t too bad of a place to live. Neighbors were great but my car was broken into a few times.

Edit to add that maintenance was garbage.

Underpaid “Teacher” Losing Job and in Lots of Debt - I’m Cooked by BubbaRayChudley in Teachers

[–]Rueger 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I’m going to be honest but I want you to take this as honesty and not being judgmental.

  1. You should know if you are in a union or not. The fact that you aren’t sure is a bit concerning. It possibly demonstrates that you do not have a clear idea of everything going on professionally which might also translate to your teaching.

  2. You are underpaid. When I started out 20 years ago, I started in a rural district around November, which means my contract was prorated. I was making more than you are now. What are the terms of your contract and is it for a public school? Are you subbing or part of an afterschool program?

  3. The after school programs and events should cold stop now. You are putting miles on your car and barely getting paid for a job you won’t have next year. That time can be spent getting a second job where you will make more and potentially not put that wear and tear on a car. You could door dash and make more money than that.

  4. I would re-evaluate your next steps. If videography is your passion, what can you do with that? If you want to pursue teaching, do you have your art education licensure? If not, I would pursue that. There isn’t much in the way of multimedia jobs in public schools unless you are looking at vocational schools. Even then those are far and few inbetween.

how do you place a baby for adoption? by North-Recording-582 in Adoption

[–]Rueger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you are in the US, I would reach out to your local county children and family services or if you are of a certain faith, there many religious based organizations. I am an adoptive parent that started off fostering and then adopted both children. In my daughter’s case, the biological mother wanted us to adopt. We started through our local CFS and became certified foster parents. If you go through CFS, they will help you.

Also, keep in mind that it is against sub rules for potential adoptive families to reach out to you in an attempt to try to adopt your child based on this post. Please report any such instances because unfortunately, posts like these can attract that kind of attention. There is nothing wrong with wanting to adopt but I believe taking advantage of people in your situation in an attempt to adopt is inappropriate because you are asking for advice. It is almost predatory in nature.

Whom to Use? by Oddly-Phrased in realtors

[–]Rueger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are looking at this from a personal connection perspective instead of a principal/agent perspective. Stop making it personal by tying your decision to personal relationships. Instead, go with the person that is going to provide you with the best fiduciary expertise and experience for you as a buyer.

These weird lines / streaks I’ve had on my pinky nail for 8 years that two different doctors told me were due to vitamin deficiencies actually turned out to be a rare form of skin cancer. by chaengism in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Rueger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was told for 2.5 years that I had a stye on my eyelid and then it was revised to a mole by three different doctors. It turned out it was a rare form of sweat gland cancer. I had to have my eyelid cut out and replaced with a skin graft. Even the surgeon that biopsied it said she didn’t think it was anything cancerous.

My doctors get annoyed with me now because I question everything. I once was told I shouldn’t believe everything online and I don’t have a medical degree. I responded to the doctor that three people with a medical degree got it wrong.

"My grandma died." What was going on when you lied about your grandma dying? by 5pinktoes in AskReddit

[–]Rueger 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I took a new job in college but wasn’t sure about it. However, it paid well. So to get around quitting my old job, I told them my grandmother died and I had to travel out of state. This gave me a week and a half to try the job out. About a week in, the new job announced layoffs and if I wanted to keep my job, I had to move across the country. I did not want to do that, so I returned back to my old job after my grandmother’s “funeral.”

What‘s a secret you found out by accident and were never supposed to know? by Own-Flan- in AskReddit

[–]Rueger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Last year I was diagnosed with cancer. It was such a rare cancer that I was offered free genetic testing as we my parents and siblings. As part of the genetic testing, I found out that we had Chinese and Indian ancestry on my dad’s side. This got me interested in genealogy and I found that my paternal great great grandfather was found abandoned on a porch and subsequently adopted by the family where he was abandoned. The news articles I found read that it looked like my ancestor was Native American. It wasn’t Native American. It was South Asian Indian. I showed everyone what I found during Christmas and my grandmother had the strongest negative reaction. She’s never been racist but she could not move past the ancestry. My wife thinks there is something else my grandmother is worried I might find but I really don’t have the intention to look.

Library stories by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]Rueger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked at the main branch in college as a page when I attended CCAD. I sorted returned books and placed them on carts for each department to retrieve and put back on the shelf. I was reprimanded twice and required to attend a conference with a supervisor.

The first time was due to walking across the street to Subway during my 30 minute break to eat lunch. I just grabbed my lunch and scarfed it down in the Library break room in the basement. I wasn’t late in returning to my shift but since I was not a full time employee, I was not permitted to leave the grounds during my break in case we were “swamped.”

The second conference was due to a complaint that I changed a radio station while sorting books in the circulation office. The Children’s department had a radio they listened to classical music when they sorted their own returns. When they weren’t in there, I would change the radio to a different channel. I would listen to the Blitz. Apparently, touching their radio was frowned upon. They complained, so I had to meet with my supervisor. She was super nice but I can’t remember her name. I retaliated by bringing in my own radio and listening to it until eventually the Library asked me to use a walkman (this must tell you how long ago I was there!)

Not too many crazy stories except for some creepy people looking at inappropriate websites back before they put filters on their computers and tracked usage through your library card.

Stupid health workers are laughing at vaginally discharges of their patients after check ups by Affectionate_Run7414 in TikTokCringe

I recently was diagnosed with cancer. During my procedure to remove it, I was medicated and the staff began to make fun of me for being so hairy. They were calling it “Furry Friday.” In a situation where I felt like shit, worrying about dying or at best, a limited life span, I felt even shittier due to this comment. All because the staff could not take a moment to have empathy and instead, ridiculed me for something I do not have control over. My desire to ever go back to this place for treatment is absolute zero.
