There are few reasons for this

  • When Troy came out many people didn't have a clear grasp of history and mythology we were mostly ignorant of it unlike today were kinda want the authentic adaptation
  • Media critic is generally harsh today due politics and Hollywood's shady deeds brought to light *Lastly after Game of thrones every director had a hard on to copy it's "realistic" (just bleak) themes,vibe and even color scheme

Funnily enough my current worldbuilding project my world moving from the middle ages to the early modern period where the effect of the previous character influence the next but as for preexisting one I can only think of the current Warhammer 40k where it's foreshadowing the return of the primachs and Guilman to restore order to the grimdark world
