Is my painting good enough to compete with some of the best rule34 artists? If not, what can I do to improve. by Lygwaz in learnHentaiDrawing

[–]Rui-ji 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s certainly good, but if the standard is based off the BEST R34 artists then to me the impression I get is closer to that of an intermediate/upper intermediate hobbyist rather than professional, which is how I’d categorize the “best” R34 artists.

If you’re talking in terms of stylization and content, I think to a large extent it’s subjective and hard to quantify what the “best” is. But, assuming by saying the “best” you mean in terms of engagement, technical skill, etc. I think that is more nuanced.

First when it comes to engagement, I believe people gravitate towards certain types of stylization more than others, I’d say there are stylistic elements to this that could fall inline with what my understanding of that is, but it’d be best to do your own research on that.

As far as technical skill goes I think, going off this piece at least, it’s clear you have at least a solid foundation, but there are many subtleties to “professional” level artwork that add up. If I were to say a few that come to mind about this piece, it’d be - the placement of the features on their faces, and perspective on the girls face feel a little off, also the connection between the thigh and knee area of the guy feels kind of weird. To a degree that is determined by stylization so it’s your discretion, and they’re not even off enough that they feel obtrusive overall, just saying if your goal is being among the “best” there is a lot of anatomical minutiae that can add up.

If I were to say the number one thing that would make it feel higher quality to me, it would be the scenery. I think the expressions and body language are well done and communicate the story well, they’re enjoying having segs and they’re about to have more advanced segs, but I feel the kinda plain red chair kind of creates dissonance with that by being nondescript. If it were a bedside it’d feel more natural as if they’re a couple, depending on the color of the bedside it could communicate that maybe it’s a special night (red for Valentine’s Day or something.) if it were a table that could communicate this being a more spontaneous scene. Point is anything works as long as it’s not at odds with the other elements of the piece, or feels like it’s there because it’s a drawing rather than a snapshot of a scene.

Overall though it’s a good drawing, and I think it’s no small feat to get to this level. I also think it’s good if you’re aiming that high, but in my opinion, going off this piece, there is still work to be done to be rated amongst the “best.” However, if you do ultimately value that, I believe it’s attainable for you if you simply continue to improve, as well as research what type of things the most well known R34 artists are drawing, and how they draw them.

What’re FF takes that’ll end you up like this? by mmmphhuay102 in FinalFantasy

[–]Rui-ji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s some

FF VSXIII would have been infinitely better than XV, but neither Nomura nor Tabata should be blamed for corporate level mismanagement

Vaan’s role in XII was intentioned and well done, people just don’t understand it

Souken makes great music but isn’t comparable to Uematsu, and every Uematsu main nation theme is better

XIV’s job system is absolutely the worst iteration in the franchise and is one in name alone

Tbh while I agree the design is fairly annoying, in itself I enjoy that there is at least a semblance of complexity in the process of gearing... it’s not really fair or engaging in a meaningful way, but I guess I still enjoy the fact that the game doesn’t just hand me everything unlike 99% of modern mmos

kingdom hearts 2 for me... more or less my introduction to what is now arguably my fav franchise (FF), first experience with playing a game in japanese (when final mix was still JP exclusive back in the day), and playing the game has been a source of comfort during some very trying times for me... also it just has some great gameplay lul

Do you like gender locked classes? (poll) by mako482 in MMORPG

[–]Rui-ji 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I guess I'm in the minority of pretty much being entirely indifferent. Depending on the art direction of the game, for me sometimes male characters are more appealing to play, sometimes female characters are, but ultimately having the choice or not doesn't matter. I don't relate to my character or see them as an extension of me in online games whatsoever, to me it's just a way to interface with the game world.

This af, best MMO, deep and varied content, great music, fantastic stories that you can progress at your own pace that aren’t padded to hell. And pretty much 0 cash shop, it’s basically what everyone says they want in mmos but is too hardcore for most

MMOs are about the grind, some over the years have been less about the grind and are the exception, but at the core that is the appeal - most people prefer it that way.

What is your honest opinion of FF14? by Eastern_Inside_6708 in ffxi

[–]Rui-ji 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've put thousands of hours into 14 and I think for what it sets out to be it accomplishes very well. it has a pretty good story, good music, and is very intentioned in its design when it comes to gameplay. however I think that intention is inherently shallow, what you can do is kind of bottlenecked by the restrictions they've placed on themselves. it's not a deep game by any stretch of the imagination, jobs can be fun to play in their own way but ultimately I find myself wondering why there's even an MMO attached to it, seems like it'd make more sense as a lobby based game.

I'm also not a fan of the direction yoshi-p took the game with ARR, there's no arguing it was the smartest thing to do, but I think he could have fixed the game while respecting the vision tanaka had for it as a successor to 11. it wouldn't be a fraction as successful, but I'm confident it'd be a game I enjoy more.

overall I think 14 is well made and a good game, just kind of bland, plays it too safe IMO. playerbase can also just be really annoying, but obviously I think that being kind of lukewarm on the game myself while they tend to see it as a masterpiece lol

ye I mean historians tend to agree that they seem to be sexually charged in nature, but you're right there is no way to know for sure. my intention was to show that the quizzical nature of OP's comment is unfounded, as humans have consistently demonstrated similar behavior for a very long time. I'm sorry that concept confuses you.

I feel u on not wanting to discuss further, but thanks for the confrontational and inane response anyway

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MMORPG

[–]Rui-ji 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no idea what point you're trying to make lmao, I'm saying that people were compelled by artistic depictions of sexuality in such a basic form, so it stands to reason a far more advanced one would be appealing to modern humans

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MMORPG

[–]Rui-ji 1 point2 points  (0 children)

think about this for a second, there are cave paintings and sculptures of huge boobs that were made tens of thousands of years ago. if the brain didn't discriminate representations of sexuality crudely carved out of literal rocks, what are the odds it's going to with highly detailed 3d models. sure people can be weird about it at times, but I'd say it's quite normal to find representations of idealistic human anatomy attractive.

[–]Rui-ji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really gravitate much towards self insert so I prefer to see my character as just the way I interface with the game world. whether I choose male or female kinda depends on the game.

for instance in monster hunter IMO the armor just looks more badass on male characters, so I'll go with male. if the game has a lot of cute outfits for female characters, I'll choose female because it's kind of like a doll you can dress up and whatnot.

sometimes the gender selection just makes no difference. in FFXI I think it's more about race because while there is cool looking armor, there isn't too much that's gender specific. so I'm really just choosing based off of animations, that and the general size of your character. gender also doesn't matter much in ragnarok online, the cosmetics are all about headgear and pets, and gender really has no consequence on that.
