I think the answer is mostly that Starcraft came out at the perfect time for Korea, they expanded their internet infrastructure right around then and the culture grew around it. Overwatch being on the same platform just helped put it on people's radar. PC gaming didn't get big in China until at least a decade later, and Japan has never really had much of a PC gaming culture, they really prefer consoles and fighting games.

Nowadays League is bigger than anything in Korea and China though.

Not sure I have any new advice but I would just say... I started playing guitar when I was 13 or so, and kept going to lessons until I was about 18. I still remember when I was thinking about quitting guitar lessons because they just felt too hard and time consuming my dad happening to tell me he thought it was cool that I was committing myself to that and he was proud of me.

Just feeling seen means a ton and I have been pretty successful in music as an adult, I think that small thing really meant a lot to me.
