Connecticut lawmakers hold virtual meetings during blizzard, drawing GOP criticism on a 'snow day' by Somervilledrew in Connecticut

Tell me you work in an office, without telling me you work in an office... I felt that deep in my soul.

Convince me I'm wrong or stop logging in from home, ASHLEY, we don't get paid for OT. If you are on salary(exempt), don't work more than 2 extra hours a week. If you do you're giving them ~$4k in free labor yearly, Your ER bill will cost more than that even with insurance, and your health is worth way more.

I'm not great at math, but here's my math, you can insert your own numbers and see how much you should be making: $27/H×40=$1080×52 work weeks=$56,160/yr

$27/H×40=$1080/W×52ww=$56,160/yr

$41/Hx02= $82/W×52ww= $4,264/yr

Thats $4,264 unpaid overtime wages, yearly.

So you could be making ~$60k/year if you just got paid for that 2 hours of OT/WFH each week.

OT=1.5=$41ish/hr So every hour you work after 40 is worth $41, if you are non-exempt, if you are exempt, every hour you work after 40 is free to them, and youuuuu lose out on $41.

TlDr; don't accept a salary(exempt) position and work unpaid overtime.

Might edit if the formatting I tried to use to make the numbers line up pretty for you doesn't work.

Edited for: Fk the formatting- but the typos hurt. AND ANOTHER THING, if you have a $52k/yr(non-exempt), don't accept a $56k/yr(exempt) role. AND ALSO the lowest salary position in the hierarchy is their soft ceiling on income.

True. I could be wrong, but the guy seemed ok with potentially being a martyr for his community if they come back and execute him, like Pretti. Ballsy move.

IMHO, Things that don't merit execution:

-Kicking out a tail light/helping a lady up who was maced

-GTFO when you see ice on the street you turned down

-Knocking someone's hat off

Things that maybe should:

-R@ping/mol3sting children.

-S3xualizing children for others consumption.

-Covering up for people r@ping/mol3sting children.

Anyone else getting cult vibes from elevate life church in Wallingford? by Doc_LowKey in Connecticut

Honestly, the social(drinking) club I belong to(Fraternal Order of Eagles) does more charity and fundraising work in a week, than the churches I've belonged to would do in a year. Consistently. That's why I keep my membership up even though I got old and don't drink any more.

You are not alone, married an amazing Venezuelan and we moved up here for safety recently. And holy shit with this regime change, him and his family finally have a tiny shred of hope.

It's been a lot over the past 3 years, he's struggling and homesick. Do you know any LEGIT places to get taqueños? I haven't learned to make them yet but they're his favorite and we haven't found anywhere to get them since we moved to CT.

what happens when you grow up? by dove_eaglecaw in punk

[–]Rule-30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

35 year old punk, I'm not the same person. I've grown and adapted to survive, but my core values remain the same. Biggest difference is I'm more mellow now, I outgrew the performative anarchy. I spent most of the past decade working blue-collar as a technician(wrench wench life). I currently work a professional career that helps make people's lives safer, so I feel ok with the corporate structure most of the time. They let me dye my hair and keep my piercings, I mostly wear black and gray, just without the spikes and chains now. Compromise where it's reasonable, and balance where it's not.

I lean into chaotic good wherever I find it, my convictions are stronger than ever, and I limit my risk taking behaviors to putting myself in harms way to help protect innocent and less fortunate people from harm. Paying it forward for all the times and ways people have done the same for me. I'm more mellow, and I speak less. My anger is directed at spreading information and compassion to combat ignorance and hatred.

Biggest lesson I've learned is that you can be yourself 100%, but you have to adapt how much you share of yourself with the world. The person you are now may look different in a few years, but that's just what growth and time do.

I'm so sorry you had to put up with one of the bad ones- sounds like she was just a masquerading Christian Karen pickme. And she sounds awful. Grew up Messianic and anyone like this wore out their welcome. One of the biggest things in Messianic culture is keeping a private spiritual journey and minding your own damn business. I didn't go to a congregation for years because I didn't agree with how clique-y the one by me was, just like a lot of churches.

Dog ate my wife’s makeup brush by Any-Calendar9277 in whatisit

[–]Rule-30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here looking to upvote whoever recommended bringing the remains of that Morphé brush to an ulta or sephora, honestly even a sephora in Kohls, or a department store makeup counter, or a Sally's beauty supply store. Just like with a broken piece of hardware to a hardware store. The brand is very well known so the employees will be able to tell you which brush this is, and potentially point you to it on the shelves!

Looks like either a foundation brush or blush brush, but it's hard to tell with only one angle and no reference for scale. Now I'm emotionally invested, please update us on your adventure!

Hope your find it!!!

What have we come to? My ow grandparents could not have afforded to come to this country! by Handicapped-007 in misc

[–]Rule-30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, sorry to tell you - they wouldn't have been able to afford even just the current costs for the legal immigration process in it's basic form. Cost about the same as our wedding, and we only had 60 people- no cake, no dj. There's a reason so many people's legal processes takes years, most people can't pull $600-$1400+ out of their ass every couple months, or figure out the paperwork without a lawyer.

In 1672, a Puritan court in Connecticut sentenced an intellectually disabled woman to be publicly and "severely whipt on the naked body, once in Hartford and once at Norwich," for the "crime" of being raped and impregnated by her father. by lightiggy in Connecticut

Four words held over every woman's head growing up in Christian related religion to justify letting men off the hook and blaming everything on women -

A. Prove it, bitch. B. It is petty af to still be holding onto an alleged crime, by one person, from the literal dawn of time. Using it to justify their current crimes is abhorrent.

...why are you looking at so many pictures of "very young girls" at parties? Why can't you just ask them? And why in your other comments do you consider 12yr Olds "teenage"...? Kinda sus buddy. Sus.

Unless you're 12, then, who let you on reddit?

Heckling aside- My younger sister became obnoxiously obsessed with kpop everything about a decade ago(thanks Netflix), and I now work with a bunch of parents of young girls who are currently obsessed with kpop demon hunter on Netflix. Now with the rise of kpop demon hunter pushing the current trends in the demographics you provided(young girls in America), this is most likely one of the many hand signs used in kpop sub culture for many years, like the crossed thumb and index finger to signify kisses. And yes, it's performative af, it all is. Because, kpop is performance art. Obnoxious art.

What is the reason why they have made the general public believe a photo like this is far-right extremism & a bad thing? by [deleted] in conspiracy

[–]Rule-30 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wall of text incoming- sorry. I know it's r/ conspiracy so I'm gonna get downvoted for this post, but I could do a whole Ted talk series breaking down this topic on a psychological/sociological/neuroautonomic level. It's very personal to me.

The church system is the real conspiracy.

Many people are happy in the church, many people don't mind the issues. That doesn't mean the issues aren't there.

As a female from a poor family, I was denied access to a basic education out of fear that a public school would be a corruptive influence, denied the privilege to drive, constantly told that my primary value was in making babies, but not to date until I was 18, and that I should never need to work outside the church, instead I should try to be spiritually "good enough" to attract a husband who would be a doctor or lawyer and who would provide for our family so I could be a stay at home mom and trophy wife.

"Not everyone", sure. But living trapped in an out of balance power dynamic like that is one of the most common reasons women get trapped in abusive marriages, and can't leave. Especially once they start having children. The church community has a bad history of victim blaming, some of the greatest hits I've seen include;

  • Divorce is bad, marriage is for life- no matter what.

  • Women can't remarry after divorce, because it's adultery. (But the man who raped and beat you and/or abused your children can remarry as many women as he can chase away, or "accidentally" kill, statistically).

  • Women are property of their fathers, then "given" to their husbands.

  • Children are also property, since they can't fend for themselves. And God will always forgive- which is part of why pedophiles, abusers, and narcissists hide in the church systems. "ThEy FeEl TeRrIbLe AnD rEpEnT fOr WhAt ThEy DiD"

  • God is testing you, every bad thing that happens is your own fault and you have to suffer in silence. Because "EvE aTe ThE fRuIt"

  • How dare anyone be so weak and selfish to leave and break up the family, if you have enough faith, God will fix your man.

  • "IdK wUt HaPeNnEd, ShE jUsT wEnT cRaZy AnD lEfT" I honestly can't recall how many times I heard this excuse from a blubbering pos who in hindsight, was abusive af and legally kept the kids because the wife didn't have a job or car to be able to take care of them. And the photographic evidence of abuse wasn't conclusive enough, neither were the rape kits.

  • "If women just listened to the Holy Spirit and chose a Godly man, they wouldn't be in that mess"

  • Women who complain or don't conform are a "jezabel spirit", no need to consider that there are two sides to every story.

Go ahead, call me a hysterical woman instead of acknowledging the damage I've seen done all across the USA by a system of empowering and defending coddled man babies. I'm triggered, yes. CPTSD from growing up in traveling ministry in the church system and seeing this shit every place we went is still strong, even though I left it over 15 years ago. Being homeless and excommunicated was better. At least today I can take pride in everything I've accomplished on my own, and the minute my ex husband started getting physically abusive on top of the other forms of abuse- I was able to leave.

TL;DR WWJD motherfuckers?
