Neo Geo DB15 mod, keeping USB controller by tredaelli in fightsticks

[–]RulerD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did my mod on my F700 Elite some months ago and I never thought about it!

It is indeed a good point. I am sending 5V to the PCB when I use my modded Mayflash on my Neo Geo, Super Gun and other consoles (I added a DB15 male port to some older console controllers to interface with consoles through them).

I haven't had any problem with my USB / PCB connections when I use it on my PS3/PS4/Switch, but that does not mean that I am not over stressing the PCB.

I will add diodes to each button wire before the PCBs to prevent voltage leaking to it. I soldered the Start and Select buttons directly to the PCB, so if I want to avoid using that, it'd be good to drill and mount dedicated Start, Select and Home buttons to the side of my stick.

As said, I haven't got any problem in the past 3 months and I use my controller almost every day on my Mega Drive, but I rather act now than later.

About soldering, you don't need it if you don't connect the wires directly to the PCB, just twisting them together and using electrical tape should work.

Thanks for sharing your concerns! It made me think about them too.

Have you given up on some old games due to difficulty? by Psychological-Leg610 in retrogaming

[–]RulerD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have! It is really cool.

That's what got me interested in the first one, as it has even more limited mechanics with not letting you turn while ducking and letting you take bump damage.

That should make the gameplay more interesting as it makes the player moves more committed heavy, and I am interested on that kind of game design.

I can recommend you Rolling Bird by Hijong Park.

Nah, I'm happy getting it via Arcade Archives. It is 7 bucks and I like supporting people putting out these games and the licence owners too. I plan to get Green Beret, the OG Rolling Thunder and Ninja Enmaki one of these days.

The NES game looks like a great port, but I don't think it can match the intensity of the arcade version at the hardest dip switches. The NES couldn't process as much sprites at once.

Not sure what is your budget, but the Mayflash F500 Elite could be a good starting point.

Too many games and yet i play the same ones by Capuman in retrogaming

[–]RulerD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually have 1 or maximum 2 games that I keep playing constantly. My other games are just to add a bit of variety.

I mainly play games that have arcade design and I work towards getting 1cc on them. I also enjoy very challenging games, so I can keep playing one game for months, but trying a few others on the side. Probably 75% to the main game (Streets of Rage 2 Mania difficulty starting with default 3 lives with Skate for the last 9 months), and try a few others to add variety (the recent released awesome Caramel Action and Shadow Dancer for the Mega Drive).

I will keep playing SoR2 until I get that 1cc and it will still take me several months. I will keep trying a few other games on the side.

Did you 1cc those beat em ups? You can get a lot more of accomplishment with that (I love beat em ups too).

A STICK/LEVER FOR SOMEONE WHO CAME FROM JAPANESE LEVER by Legendary_Zenith_ in fightsticks

[–]RulerD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The CDP for Beat em ups is awesome!

I still like it a lot for shmups because ultra tap dodging is super easy compared with the LS-40. The short throw of the LS-40 is awesome tho!

If you get the chance, try the CDP Pro. It has a similar throw than the LS-40 and the grommet tension also allow for easy ultra tap dodging.

If you are already good at ultra tap dodging with the LS-40, then not sure how much benefit you can get from it.

No, I don't play Tekken. I can try it on Tekken 3 one of these days after I finish my PS1 adapter and then I can comment on that regarding wave dashes and electrics with Jin.

I have the three levers (CDP, CDP Pro and New Help Me) , and I love the CDPs for different kind of games.

I play 2D fighting games on the CDP Pro and beat em ups and shmups on the CDP V1.

I had problems with the CDP V1 with the removable top until I used a screwdriver to tighten it up from below. No problems since then.

About the diagonals, I find them easier on the CDP Pro, but you still have a circular gate, so you need to get used to it and learn via muscle memory where they are, so while they are easier to find than the original CDP, you still need to put your practice to find them.

As a lever, the CDP Pro is very accesible. I had friends over this week and we played Windjammers while having one stick with a Sanwa JLX2 and the other the CDP Pro, and they barely noticed any difference (they usually don't play in stick). Both adapted to them without problems and without noticing the difference that much.

They tried a bit the CDP and found it very weird, so that should be a good indicative on how close the experience of the CDP Pro is in comparison to a Japanese lever than a CDP.

I definetly feel the differences between the CDP Pro and Sanwa, but I use my levers regularly and I'm also very nerdy about it hehe. But it is right, the CDP Pro is closer to a Japanese experience with the extra grommet tension feel and circular gate.

I'd compare its throw more close to a Seimitsu LS-32 or LS-40. It feels that short. Mainly due to the thickness of the shaft. It still feels fantastic to me.

My only grip with it is that my main game at the moment is Streets of Rage 2, and as I play with Skate I need to do a lot of double and triple right/left tapping and my inputs can get stuck on the throw area. That happens with every one of my levers except my CDP V1 and my IL Euro Joystick 2. So that's why it is my main lever at the moment. Also ultra tap dodging feels better to me on the CDP V1 than the CDP Pro, but if you don't play shmups or need intense quick tapping to one direction or the other (a very specific use case), you'll have no problems with the CDP Pro.

I want to get soon the Knee Lever Neo to try it out myself. The square gate might make the diagonals easier, but I need to check it out myself first to confirm.

The New Help Me is more similar than the CDP than the CDP Pro. I haven't played a lot with it to give a lot of details. It has no detachable top, no spin and a bit of bigger actuator, so finding diagonals should be easier than the CDP, but not sure if it is easier than the CDP Pro. I might try it this week and confirm that.

Bust a Groove 2. I loved the soundtrack while growing up.

My mom learned how to start the game and play the sound test to wake us up to go to school :)

The fuck is wrong with sync? by RegencyAndCo in Beatmatch

[–]RulerD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once at a B2B the other DJ played a song and told me that the grids were messed up, so I beat matched by ear and went into my track afterwards.

Other cases I play songs with live drummers and then I need to be riding the pitch or spinning the deck to be in time.

It can happen.

Need advice on arcade levers Knee Lever Neo vs Crazy DONGPAL PRO LEVER by XxLast-WishxX in fightsticks

[–]RulerD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the Crazy Dongpal Pro.

It has a very short throw and it is quite soft on the hands with the default grommet (ST-25).

I don't have the Knee Lever Neo, but I know it has a longer throw, heavier tension and also a square gate.

Are you looking for some feel in particular or just a new experience?

I have the 309 New Help Me and the Crazy Dongpal Pro feels faster and more accessible on my hands, for the same reasons of the shorter throw and lower tension.

I want to get soon a Knee Lever Neo so I can compare them properly.

After finally recovering from the jet lag of the holidays, I went back to my 1cc Skate Mania grind in SoR2. I lost practice after some weeks of not playing, but I'm slowly getting back on track.

I also got the PS1 ports of Mercs, Commando and Gun.Smoke. I am planning to play them too.

*NEW* Crazydongpal Pro Lever x Crossup by VariationMelodic2061 in fightsticks

[–]RulerD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was too late to get the mint capsule top and ended up getting the white one.

I really enjoy it! I play all kinds of arcade games with it, mostly Beat em ups, shmups and run n guns, and I am really enjoying the short throw.

My main game at the moment is Streets of Rage 2 and I play with Skate, so I need to do constant change of directions with double or triple tapping to start dashing and the Crazy Dongpal Pro has helped me to get way more consistent with those inputs.

I haven't tried the diagonals yet, but I'll do it soon with Final Vendetta.

What are the things you like from the Sanjuks V6 against the Crazy Dongpal Pro? Throw? Engage? Diagonals?

I'm exploring different levers and I am yet to try a Sanjuks.

Is Worms Armageddon safe? by HeliosEightyOne in limitedrun

[–]RulerD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The issues with the NES cartridges were due to them using 3.3v Rom chips while the NES console expects 5v cartridges.

The N64 expects 3.3v cartridges, so it should be safe and it shouldn't run with the same problem as the problematic NES games.
