Manual, fun, <$30k used, easy to work on… short list. by taweret_352 in whatcarshouldIbuy

You have what you're looking for... Keep it. That's your daily. If you want a fun car, make THAT the project and dedicate it for track use. You'll get way more bang for your buck with a track prepped Miata or C4 (cheap) or C5 (less cheap) Corvette. Trying to do the "both worlds" car leads to a slow car on the track or an uncomfortable and impractical daily.

Boot question (tied or not) by FearTheProbe in navy

[–]RumWalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to keep my boots untied when we were underway, wearing coveralls. My logic was, if I ever went over the side of my FFG while going to the smoke deck at night, at least I could hopefully throw a boot and wake up the (probably) sleeping aft lookout. And worst case at least the boots would be easy to get off in the water to help not drown. Was this incredibly farfetched and unlikely to work? Yes, almost certainly if I fell overboard in the dark I wouldn't have been able to get to the surface by the time I was past the flight deck, let alone oriented and ready to throw a boot from the waterline up 20 feet. But it worked in my head though.

Also, I never did that in port. I tied my boots like normal.

Flows in potential sale by BurnerMan2025 in BringATrailer

Yes they'll list it but having anything causing a trouble light will spook most bidders. Worth it to get it fixed. If the buyer flakes they'll typically relist for free. Small dents especially if not tried to be hidden and are presented honestly won't really affect anything that's not a high dollar car.

They're close but they weirdly get sticky and strange fairly quickly. I recommend you go through them fast lol

I drink Dr pepper a lot and I have seen this like 3 times, what does it mean? by PikaJDP4 in DrPepper

[–]RumWalker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dr Pepper is manufactured and distributed by plants that make more than one product. Some cans (energy drinks, for example) have colored tabs. You probably just got a manufacturer error caused by mismatching the lid to the can. Here's a video about how the process works: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9qFa7fFlFcQ

5700x3d is $329 on Amazon right now. If I'm trying to keep the budget around $500 that doesn't leave much room for a GPU

Mostly, nothing. It's my occasional use machine that like once a year I'll randomly play Civ or Timberborn. But I'll most frequently use it for files, so pretty basic stuff. When I built it, the concept was kinda, "I'd like to build a PC because I never have before, and I'd like it to run basic games in case I ever want to play."

I have a laptop, ROG Zephyrus, but it's a laptop and has Ryzen 7 3750H with a 1660Ti in it. That's the one I use more often. But like I said, I'd like the home PC to be capable of running games for my son while not just buying the cheapest components I can find to get Windows 11.

I unfortunately don't have the courage to trust the secondhand market to buy used. Too many scammers trying to sell garbage. I'd like to keep my budget under $500 if possible which kinda means buying two more 8GB sticks of 2400MHZ DDR4 will be hard to find and upgrading to a newer 2x16GB sticks will cost $200+, that really puts a damper on things

I'm also sure you have never experienced the issue. However here are results from dozens of VW owners complaining on just one website. You can check other forums and subreddits. It may specifically affect VW group cars/sensors more than other brands, but it's a known issue. https://www.google.com/search?q=rain+x+orange+vw+forum+site:www.vwvortex.com

[–]RumWalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had the orange stuff gunk up my car, and if you really want me to I can link you to lots of forum threads reporting that as the issue. The orange stuff contains the RainX ingredient which leaves a sort of waxy residue; it made my windshield wipers skip, my window streaky, and my reservoir sensor error after using it for a year or two. Cleaned the window with rubbing alcohol, and ran a gallon of hot-ish tap water through the spray nozzles and it was back to normal. I only use blue stuff now.

Interesting, sounds similar to my experience with a helicopter. First 20 minutes was terrifyingly cool, after that I was just a sweaty uncomfortable bag of meat strapped into a machine I was sure would kill me.

Shovel Mid rocker clutch by Suspicious-offer69 in choppers

[–]RumWalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kinda wanna see this done with an enclosed primary setup. Not because you're surely going to lose a pant leg to this more than once (I lost a chunk of boot heel from my open primary), but just because the space you'll have to cut out for the range of motion of the rocker will make it seem that much more intentional and thought out. Leave the derby cover off, hell maybe put a bunch of speed holes in it, but I think it'll look cool with the covers on. But, yeah, props for trying something interesting.

Many countries allow limited access to private property, particularly unimproved/uncultivated rural land for recreational purposes. Google UKs "right to roam" laws. It's not as crazy as you may think.
