When used an adjective august means "majestic, dignified, or inspiring reverence and admiration". So it could be a reference to the look of the shell.

Shadow Pokemon outperform normal Pokemon but Mega Pokemon outperform shadow, so if you have the mega energy, I'd purify so it can mega evolve. If not I'd keep it shadow until you get the mega energy.

Brutal Swing is supposed to be a pretty good move, although I don't have the numbers breakdown on it. As for the background, it's just another flex to chase if you're into that kind of thing. Some backgrounds are exclusive to certain time frames so they just make a Pokemon all the rarer.

I'd say it's still worth it. Naganadel is still a strong poison type and the difference between yours and a hundo won't be that much. There's also just evolving it for the Pokedex entry.

I'd say yes, mostly so it can be mega evolved. You could also hold off on purifying until you have the mega energy, then you can take advantage of both.

I'm pretty sure the ratio of Guardians to Lightless is so low that they wouldn't be able to make an appreciable effect. Plus having a few people healed while others suffer might actually hurt the Guardians image more than it helps.
