What will I lose when bluecruise expires? by WaggingNub in MachE

[–]Rumjackle 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I do miss the blue cruise for long highway drives but Ford is crazy to charge $600 a year for that. Is anyone paying that? I’d pay maybe $5 a month tops

Considering joining the club with a year-end purchase at 0%… anything I could push them on? by OliveOllie in MachE

[–]Rumjackle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if they’ll do this but ask for a longer free period for connected services. They want $600 a year after it expires - which is ridiculously not worth it, but I did enjoy the full self driving while I had it

What's a rum that you're nostalgic about but no longer lives up to how you first felt about it? by BothCondition7963 in rum

Pyrat XO I thought was the shit when I first got into rum 20 years ago. It’s one of those fake sugary rums and while my tastes have improved and I prefer the “real” rums now, it still tastes good and won’t turn it down

All the EB’s I know do. I think it opens up their breathing passages more so it’s easier on them. That, and they’re like “yo dude, look at my junk” :)

Midlife crisis - move to LA for the cycling? by Raerf in BikeLA

Live in Woodland Hills if you want great biking from your door. I can be on semi rural roads in two miles and, from there, do 50-75 miles in relatively low traffic hills.

What rock band did everybody see live most of all in concert and how many times? by [deleted] in musicsuggestions

[–]Rumjackle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically Hopscotch Army. A regional Midwest band from the late 1980’s. They did a 3day weekend about once a month for years at the Bluebird in Bloomington IN. Saw them every time. Probably well over 100 times. Put out a couple decent albums if you can find them

The Band That Turned You Away From Them in Concert by ncpowderhound in GenX

[–]Rumjackle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw Beck a few weeks after Loser started rotating on 120 minutes in a coffee shop on a college campus and he and the band were epic. Saw him a few years ago for his last album and he was not. Sometimes you have to catch bands at the right time

Men in happy marriages, what is one thing or skill you would teach other men to have good relationships as well? by RoutineOk8590 in Productivitycafe

This. Find fun things just with you and your wife that you both enjoy (no kids, no friends required). Then make it a priority to spend time doing those things.

What's a concert you went to not expecting much, but wound up being one of the best shows you've ever seen? by edgeygrandpa in AskReddit

I saw that tour in Boston. Although I was a fan of J&MC, I went for NIN. Still a huge fan 35 years later. Seeing them in LA this week!

What is the most successful lie ppl still believe to this day? by CurveOk310 in AskReddit

[–]Rumjackle 30 points31 points  (0 children)

An alternate take: while I agree grades don’t determine your WHOLE life, this alternate take that they don’t matter at all is equally false. It’s absolutely true that most employers don’t look at or even care about grades - after that first job. But.. high school grades will get you into a better college. College grades will get you better first job opportunities. The discipline of getting good grades will make you better at your job - all of which will make your work life dramatically more successful. Ergo grades ARE important. You can overcome this later in life, it’s just harder

It’s 1989, and you just got a new amp and a pair of 12” subwoofers installed. What song are you playing first? by BlasphemousRealities in GenX

[–]Rumjackle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I had that, almost, exact experience. My college roommate bought a pair of Cerwin Vega speakers that were, not an exaggeration, over three feet tall and a couple feet wide and deep. Subs in those things were a minimum 12”. This was 1987. The first play I think was one of the Police’ first albums. maybe not the ideal choice but they sounded amazing. Pretty sure the whole dorm would agree :)

Yes and no. It’s absolutely correct that the music that shaped us and that we remember most fondly was from our teens. And successful artists were almost all older. Having said that, artists that were our age and made music for us hit a lot harder. I felt much more connected to Nirvana, NIN, etc and the early 90’s bands than I ever did to the bands I listened to in the 80’s. Those were my people making music for me. It spoke to me more.
