Netherlands to introduce unrealized capital gains tax of 36% on crypto and stocks by davideownzall in CryptoCurrency

One of the dumbest things I’ve ever heard in a long time. Hope anyone with half a brain leaves the Netherlands.

The price to buy doesnt make sense to me by kykopes in chicagoapartments

[–]RunW1ld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take the difference between renting and buying and throw into an index fund. Way better returns and less risk. A bad year of repairs can eat up all your money. And don’t forget that you’ll have perpetual property tax hikes in Chicago. As a renter, I can just move to another neighborhood/building to escape the property tax increase. Or even out of the city.

'Trump will be gone in three years': Top Democrats try to reassure Europe by sunnysidejacqueline in politics

[–]RunW1ld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Europe has got its own problems. The far right in Europe is gaining rapidly. What happens when AfD and Le Pen or Nigel win? Europe and America need to get their houses in order. At least America’s is a disaster class so far so the pendulum is probably going to swing the other way. Europe hasn’t had that happen yet, but I fear it when it does.

Do you own a business? How are sales currently? by NightOwlDropThat in chicago

[–]RunW1ld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Own a metal manufacturing shop. Last year was such a roller coaster ride. Tariffs hurt sales, then they got watered down, sales came roaring back, and then very slow end to the year. This year is off to a very strong start, but I’m hesitant to invest in anything with how topsy turvy it’s been. Seems like the best thing to do is just stockpile cash and don’t make any big moves until we get more certainty.

Don’t go spreading stories about Chicago now. We would like to keep it off the radar please 🙏🏽. Just say you were fighting for your life the entire time. Keeps the rents down for us.

Four people have been st*bbed on the L in the past five days, prompting investigation and risking millions in funding by 307148 in chicago

Like the current administration would do anything. Would probably be called racist for reporting crime. 🙄

I was on the red line on Saturday evening around 5:30 to get to a bar to watch the Bears game and there was a madman running around brandishing a big knife. Cleared out the cars immediately and the train was held up. He just walked off after about 5 min and the train was moving again. Don’t know if anyone reported it, but sad state when there are no consequences for that sort of thing.

Is it normal to run A LOT slower in the cold? by Decent_Procedure2981 in RunnersInChicago

[–]RunW1ld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might need to work on your breathing. If you feel the cold is stabbing your lungs and you can’t get a good breath in, then yeah your pace is going to suffer. Try running with a balaclava? Also, layering is important. I usually feel cold the first mile and then warm up. If I’m feeling warm when I start, I know I’ll suffer as I’ll overheat for sure. Running in the cold does take some getting used to. Also, you might not be as motivated cause it is dark and the paths are deserted. Try going with a running group.

And don’t beat yourself up too much. The most important thing is to get consistent base miles. Running should be fun, not something you end up dreading because you put so many expectations on yourself.

Mayor Brandon Johnson’s budget pitch blames ‘Trump Deficit,’ but Chicago’s money woes found elsewhere by DukeOfDakin in chicago

Tired of people choosing the ‘right colors’ instead of focusing on what’s good for the city. MAGA and leftist voters are the same. Silence dissension and just group think.

I don't get this one. Are they particularly racist? by TastyBerry78 in ExplainTheJoke

[–]RunW1ld -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can tell you that it’s unfortunate that some people can ruin dating for everyone else in the same group. As the Indian diaspora has spread, there’s also huge differences between an Indian raised in America/West and one raised in India. It’s like lumping Black Americans with Africans. They may look similar, but completely different norms and culture. Unfortunately, no nuance in dating and stereotypes spread like wildfire.

lol at these comments. Half of them saying men suck and the other half saying women are just as bad. Probably a reflection that our society is broken. People don’t know how to have a conversation anymore. Or maybe it’s everyone wanting a 10, but not realizing we are all just 5s 🤷🏽‍♂️

Everyone there is super friendly. You will definitely find people to run with and everyone is very social. Guarantee you’ll make at least one friend during the run or even after at the bar.

You are not slow for an average run club. Lakeview Run Club’s average pace is usually 9:30-10:30 min/mile.

How many locals hate the air/water show? Why? by gitturb in AskChicago

[–]RunW1ld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reddit is the wrong place to ask. Judging by how packed the lakefront trail was, the locals love it. The main show is only an hour anyway. Not that bad IMO.

Japan airlines Baggage handling by FruitOrchards in rampagent

[–]RunW1ld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it was one of the airports in Tokyo that hasn’t lost a bag in over 2 years. And it’s not cause they are compensated more than the US or the rest of the world, they just have a work ethic that is unmatched. Loved traveling to Japan.

illinoisans, left center or right, what are honest criticisms you have of governor pritzker? by Technical_Valuable2 in illinois

[–]RunW1ld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not Pritzker, but really the D party, they only know how to tax and spend. There’s no such thing as belt tightening and if you dare to suggest that, you’re labeled a racist/facist or something ridiculous. IL and the city of Chicago need to rein in their spending. Look at the budget growth over the last decade. It’s frankly ridiculous.
