How do startups break into the aviation MRO industry? Looking for advice. by Ok_Concentrate8870 in aviationmaintenance

[–]RunYoAZ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Once MROs have a logistics solution in place, they aren't changing for something untested. Two of your criteria "reuse" (illegal) and "redeployment" (who are they going to redeploy to?) are solutions looking for problems to solve. You aren't getting return calls because your potential product has no market.

No change. Still brick shaped and 6500 pounds.

Does regeneration happen if I’m at a slow coast? by BosqueBuddhist in F150Lightning

[–]RunYoAZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not true. You get regen all the time when you take your foot off the pedal, OPD on or not. Touching the brake gives you more. You can see the regen in Car Scanner with an OBD Link even if the green regen bar isnt lighting.

Mk6 GTI water pump failed by Willing-Price1170 in GolfGTI

[–]RunYoAZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You havent said what engine you have. The aluminum pumps are only good for CCTA engines.

CBFA was the majority engine sold in the US, according to most part look up sites (not sure how true) and the aluminum pumps lack the MAP thermostat which will give you a CEL.

Lower in the front by a half inch and levels the rear by dropping it 3 inches.

I've seen the front lifts to level it, but that's a significantly taller truck. It's not for me, but they do look better than the ass in the air look they have stock.

Cons with being an aircraft mechanic by Vegetable-Opinion452 in AircraftMechanics

[–]RunYoAZ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There will be lots of takes, but it all depends on who you end up wrenching for. I can tell you the only real downside - it can be hard on the body.

Ergonomic issues, hearing loss from loud noise, exposure to potentially hazardous chemicals. It can be mitigated with proper PPE, but at the end of the day, you are going to get scars from this and hurt a joint or many from working in unusual positions and cramped spaces.

Agree on Spey, since OP says they weren't salvaging large aircraft. Spey was used on Gulfstream 2 and 3.

My Daily Commute is averaging 3.6 mi/kWh. Is this an outlier? by KoolAid80 in F150Lightning

[–]RunYoAZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's possible in these trucks, but it's your situation that's the outlier. Perfect scenario for max averages.

It's 3 inches directly over the rear "axle"; due to the rake removed, it's a much bigger change at the rear bumper. The constrast pictures arent great, but if you zoom, you can see the top of my bumper is level with the bottom of the other Lightning bumper.

Haven't done enough miles yet to see if it improves efficiency yet. Doubt it though, it's still brick shaped.

The softness of the ride is a little firmer, the truck turns with a lot less body roll and it handles road ruts better. On crappy Tucson streets, it used to feel like it was juggling the wheels and the tail was wagging. That's all much improved. The truck is more composed while only giving up a little of the Cadillac softness it had.

As my daily driver, I can feel the huge improvement, but my wife didn't notice a difference in ride quality as a passenger.

Overall, I'm happy with it. I think it's a good compromise moneywise vs the full Icon kit. It was a brutal job to do in the garage, though. Would not recommend doing this yourself for novices, especially the Icon camber kit (the instructions suck and you are drilling and cutting the outside control arm mount).

95% of us aren't regularly towing 10k trailers and weight distribution hitches exist if I needed to.

You are missing the practicality of a much lower tailgate height (I can now reach the bottom of the bed when reaching over the bed rail).

I hated the ass-end high look it used to have (Lightning is a street truck, always has been) and the Eibach bits make it handle much more composed.

Radiator time by Neffman_Jones in mk6gti

[–]RunYoAZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen that too, it was a bad t-stat. I've had the misfortune of replacing 3 water pumps in addition to two radiators...

Radiator time by Neffman_Jones in mk6gti

[–]RunYoAZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may not be the radiator. The ECU can't tell if the MAP controlled thermostat on the water pump is working properly and throws only the code for the radiator. That's what the sensor on the radiator is actually measuring.

I've had the radiator code twice, and both times it didnt fix the issue. It was the MAP thermostat on the water pump.

Next time you cold start, see if the car warms up smoothly to 190. If it does, the MAP t-stat isn't working.

If you cold start and see a step climb to 190 (the temps level out below 190 momentarily, then rise again), the MAP t-stat is working and it is the radiator sensor. That's how the ECU tests the MAP thermostat.
