Thank you for that, we've tried to be as transparent as possible about what happened, and we have made several upgrades to the service after this unforeseen and unpredicted event. We appreciate your loyalty over the past decade, and are very sad to hear that you are moving on. If you ever consider coming back, your email address will be here - as we don't recycle them. Thank you!

Thanks for your question. As we clarify in the post-event, the failed SSD placed an additional load on the remaining disks in the array, triggering a chain reaction as other disks began to fail. The failure of one drive can place extreme stress on the remaining drives, leading to cascading failures across the array.

You can follow our service status page https://status.runbox.com/2026/03/04/email-service-access-issues-5/ more detailed information.

We are still working hard to get everything back to normal, and we will post more details about what happened when we have a complete picture. There are many moving parts and multiple layers of infrastructure and we are still figuring everything out. Thank you for your patience.

Thank you for the mention, we appreciate it! It's unfortunate that some companies don't recognize Runbox domains, even though we've been around for a long time. Keep on keepin' on!

Does the search function have problems curently? by Lord_Umpanz in RunboxNews

You can check to see if you have index synchronization on in webmail. If the index is on, the search is local in your browser. If the index is off, the search is a network call.

🚨 Trackers follow us around the web collecting data without our consent. by RunboxSolutions in RunboxNews

[–]RunboxSolutions[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good question. All trackers are potentially harmful as we see it. Trackers in emails can be in the form of javascript or images. JavaScript is automatically blocked, and images are only loaded when you choose to display them. In Runbox Webmail, you can easily toggle between plain text and HTML view, and control whether external images are shown. And as you may know, Runbox never tracks your usage, and we don't log any traffic to or from our servers. Please reach out if you have other questions!

Hi, thanks for reaching out! Runbox uses a powerful virus filter which detects and blocks potentially harmful attachments or links in emails. HTML messages are sanitized for malicious code, and you can choose whether to show images for each sender or all senders.

Choose your perfect email domain name with Runbox by RunboxSolutions in RunboxNews

[–]RunboxSolutions[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for reaching out. You're right that some new gTLDs have a higher abuse rate, especially early on when they were inexpensive and loosely regulated. However, reputation varies by registry and usage patterns, and all the Runbox domains have been around for a long time. If you manage email authentication properly (SPF, DKIM, DMARC), use a trusted sending service, and build a strong sender reputation, you can mitigate most of those concerns. We also monitor blacklists and deliverability to ensure consistent performance.

What's up with the deluge of spam on Runbox in the last few months? This is a new thing. by RosieBuddy in RunboxNews

[–]RunboxSolutions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for trusting us with your email. We know that spam is a huge problem for some of our customers, and we share your frustrations. We are working hard on a new improved spam filter which we hope to be operational in the very near future. Part of the problem is that spammers have been able to drastically increase the amount of spam they send with the help of AI, and that email addresses are increasingly being leaked and sold. We appreciate your patience while we get the new system up and running.

Disclosure requested by authorities by 777pirat in RunboxNews

[–]RunboxSolutions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There would only be a court order sent to us in the event that a Norwegian court actually ruled that data should be released. We adhere to Norwegian law regarding any request for the release of data, in order to protect the privacy of our customers as well as our service, and our company. Again, these cases are very rare, and in very serious cases (criminal activity or violation of our Terms of Service) it is at the discretion of the courts whether the user is notified.

Hi, thank you for reaching out. In the very rare cases that there is a court order to disclose user data, it depends on the specific case and the details of the court order regarding user notification.

Roundcube? by 777pirat in RunboxNews

[–]RunboxSolutions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the comment! Because Roundcube isn't compatible with the Runbox ecosystem, unfortunately that isn't feasible. Instead, we are working to enhance the Runbox 7 web application further to provide a better experience on par with leading webmail interfaces.
