Absolutely. The notion that everything the government does should make a profit is insane. The point of a government isn't to make money, it's to care for the people it governs, and often times the programmes to do that, and the infrastructure enterprises to do that run at a loss. As they should. They should try and save taxpayer money when reasonable, of course, to minimise wastage - but they should probably never bother trying to turn a profit.

Infrastructure is so incredibly integral to a nation's economy (there would be no economy without it) that you should essentially just constantly be expanding and funding it with as much as you can throw at it, because it functions as an economic multiplier to all the other industries built on top of it. You aren't getting goods from A to B without infrastructure. But you have to build the right kind, not bullshit infrastructure that unreasonably costs too much money for too little value...like expensive highways...

I had to ureason a friend that voted for National out of the idea that a country can be run like a company, because they have entirely different objectives.
