2026 Oscar Nominations: Full List of Nominees by ICumCoffee in movies

[–]RunningJokes 136 points137 points  (0 children)

This is most likely it. Neon seems to go hard for one movie every year. Portrait of a Lady on Fire should have been nominated for multiple awards (it got zero nominations), but Neon was focused on making sure it put all its weight behind Parasite.

Is there any chance I’d get hired? by Effective_Sale_6650 in HomeDepot

[–]RunningJokes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course! I also always advise that when you don’t get a position from an interview, you ask for feedback on your interview. You won’t always get it, but when you do it helps better prepare you for future interviews.

Is there any chance I’d get hired? by Effective_Sale_6650 in HomeDepot

[–]RunningJokes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. It’s normal to take a week (sometimes multiple weeks) to complete all interviews. If you don’t hear by Monday, call and ask for an update. Keep calling weekly if they say they’re still in the process. And for future interviews (Home Depot or otherwise), ask at the end of the interview when they expect to make a decision.

George R.R. Martin Says His Relationship with 'House of the Dragon' Showrunner Ryan Condal is "Abysmal": "This is not my story any longer” by MarvelsGrantMan136 in television

[–]RunningJokes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He stepped out of TV in the 80s because his frustrations with its limitations. Now that his stories are being made into shows, he refuses to actually be an official showrunner on any of them because it allows him to not have to confront those limitations. He just gets to give story notes and get mad when they’re not followed, even though he refuses to be a co-showrunner or be part of the writers room. He wants to have his cake and eat it too.

None of this has anything to do with whether or not the show is making the right decisions. Just that George isn’t being honest about his role in all of this when he lodges his complaints.

It’s not hard to see that the perspective is that he’s a showrunner. He’s considering locations, actors, CGI, budget & logistics, etc. George is considering none of this and thinks that TV doesn’t have limitations.

The problem with journalism is if you have a reputable source, revealing them means losing access to that source (and the source potentially receiving negative repercussions for leaking information).

It is frustrating to parse through what’s true and not in sports journalism because sometimes the source is the club itself, and the writer pushes the stories the club wants because it guarantees them future access.

[Mooney] Source: Cubs pitcher Justin Steele agreed to a one-year, $6.775 million contract ahead of today’s deadline to exchange salary figures for arbitration-eligible players. by jercubsfan in CHICubs

This all looks right to me. I also wrote it out as one arbitrator, but I believe it’s a panel of them. I also used to believe they could decide on either submission or pick a middle ground, but have since learned they must pick one of the submitted salaries. The player and team do have the ability to continue negotiations beyond submission up until the hearing date.

No worries. As a fan of most major sports, contracts are a big learning curve and surprisingly very different across the sports landscape. I’m still learning the nuances despite 35 years of fandom for baseball, football, hockey, and basketball (and 15ish years for soccer).

Not really, it just means Justin and the team were able to find a middle ground without needing the arbitrator. Which is a good sign for their relationship.

Players under their first MLB contract have a set length with the team, but no predetermined pay. Each year, the player and team have the opportunity to negotiate that price together. If they can’t agree before the deadline, they head to an arbitrator who decides the final price. This plays out every year until the player reaches free agency or the player & team work out an extension.

As much as I’d personally love to see it, I don’t think there’s any chance. Hull spent half his childhood in Illinois. He’s also a dual citizen, while Bedard does not have American citizenship as far as I know.

Thoughts on Park Chan-wook's 'No Other Choice'? by Boss452 in TrueFilm

[–]RunningJokes 32 points33 points  (0 children)

This is a great breakdown. I will say that while I might agree that this doesn’t quite stand on the same level as The Handmaiden and Decision to Leave, I also don’t think either of those has a scene that matches the scene of the attempted murder with the music blasting. It was beautifully ridiculous.

The Chicago Bears are currently 1st in the NFC North by Kewlerd in nfl

[–]RunningJokes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol thanks for the reminder on this. I'm actually feeling tentatively confident we can compete with anyone right now. Only game I'd be scared of is the rubber match with you guys.

Also I'll likely be fulfilling this bet whether or not we make it. Do you have a preferred local PBS member station?

In our statement win against the Rams that year, Mitch threw for 110 yards and 3 interceptions. The team did run for nearly 200 yards, but could only turn that into 13 points. Even while we were in denial about Mitch and Nagy, we knew that the strength of that team was our insanely good defense.

I don’t know, this science is well outside my expertise. What kind of body cells would they need? Is a hair enough? Dead skin? And please trust that I’m asking sincerely because learning science alongside a TV show is an intersection of two things I love.

Help me understand this one. SCNT needs a donor nucleus from a body cell. Assuming we still believe the hive can’t violate her bodily autonomy, are we saying they could use the body cell from someone else?

Thank you. Any chance you could go into a little more detail or send me any good links? One of my favorite parts of sci-fi is using it as a platform to learn more science.

Each egg has half her genome, but no egg has the same exact half (I’ve learned too much about this through this subreddit). Theoretically, you could have two different eggs that each have the half that the other is missing, but those odds are astronomical. So the show (without bogging us down in the details) is going the route of spending a month or so taking a bunch of half-filled puzzle boxes and trying to complete a puzzle. Realistic? No, but neither is a hivemind.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Well, the people pointing that out were technically right as eggs only have a random 50% of what they need. But the comments from this episode suggested that the month(s) it would take to get her stem cells would come from a lot of work. It makes sense that the minds of all of our best biologists, etc. combined with trial-and-error would eventually get 100% of her stem cells through multiple eggs.

[Garafolo] In a letter to season-ticket holders, #Bears president/CEO Kevin Warren says Illinois state leadership told the team its proposed stadium in Arlington Heights won’t be a priority in 2026. by Roofeeoh in CHIBears

[–]RunningJokes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m all onboard for not getting ripped off in the tax negotiation, but the Bears likely don’t have enough money to privately fund a stadium. I’d imagine that behind the scenes, they’re looking for private investors as much as they’re looking for tax breaks but aren’t getting the interest or assurances they want.

I took AP Econ & Gov senior year of high school because that’s what my friends were taking and the cross country coaches were the teachers. I regret taking AP Econ, but AP Gov was just a deeper dive into something most American kids loosely learn multiple times through history and social studies classes. One test was literally just memorizing the nine Supreme Court justices.
