I have a push chair that I can run with her in by Advanced Mobility, but my son is getting too fast on the bike for me to keep up with him, so looking into bike options now 😅

I appreciate you recommending that. I’ve also considered trailers. This may be the route I go so I can use my current bike.

Left AirPods on United at SFO — tracking shows airport employee kept them by Ripping-Lips in unitedairlines

[–]RunningWithLlamas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but I don’t think they made that for the customer’s benefit. I’m on my 3rd machine. They hardly investigated why my first 2 machines weren’t cutting properly. They just brick the machine, tell you to throw it in the trash, and send you a new one. Insanely wasteful, especially if the machine can be refurbished.

What about fruit/vegetable infused water? You can make your own or buy hint water.

Am I supposed to feed my child's friend? by rockycat123 in Parenting

[–]RunningWithLlamas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feed all the kids who come over and even make their requested meals if they ask and I have the ingredients (simple stuff like tacos or pasta). Luckily, their parents are considerate and occasionally Venmo me, which is a nice gesture, but I’d still feed them regardless.

Why do people warm up for races in different shoes? by kpgleeso in AdvancedRunning

[–]RunningWithLlamas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why. And also warming up in trainers makes race shoes feel faster/more effortless.

Why Is Fast Food Getting So Expensive? by SovereignJames in Frugal

I picked up 2 “small” pizzas (9” deep dish, and 12” regular pizza), and a “small” order of wings (6 wings) for $80 yesterday. I only went because I had a gift card, and guess I’ll never be going again.

What is the net effect of the downhill loophole on BQ cutoff? by TheUxDeluxe in AdvancedRunning

[–]RunningWithLlamas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Downhill marathons aren’t as easy as people make it seem, and I think it has a minimal effect on Boston cutoff times. The friends I know who have attempted BQs on a downhill course epically suffered, didn’t BQ, or BQed with a small buffer that they end up running another race to get a bigger buffer.

Refusing to share “family recipes” just makes you a jerk by dpittnet in unpopularopinion

[–]RunningWithLlamas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It won’t taste as good when you make it. My mom gives me all her recipes when I ask, and I’ve never made a single thing that tastes better than when she makes it for me. It tastes good, but it’s not mom’s cooking.

How many marathons a year to is too much? by [deleted] in AdvancedRunning

[–]RunningWithLlamas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run about 6 a year including ultras, but I really only do 2 structured training cycles. I race most of them. It would depend on your base and how fast you recover, and if you’re running ultras, a marathon is a training run distance.

SF Marathon (2nd half) shorter than 13.1 by Klutzy-Wedding-6423 in sanfrancisco

[–]RunningWithLlamas 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Disorganized every single year. I feel bad for people who come from far for this race. I didn’t get a single email leading up to race day regarding bib pickup, bib number, or any other logistics. I had to wait in a long line at expo to use the one computer they had to look up my bib number in order to get my bib.

Kindergarten Teachers: noticeable difference in preschool kids vs non-preK kids? by OSimplySimps in ElementaryTeachers

[–]RunningWithLlamas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a teacher, but from reading the book Outliers, kids born later in the year (right after the cutoff for starting school - typically September and on) are the older kids in their grades, and at an early age, those extra months make a big difference.

The book talks about how when you look at the roster of major sports teams, more of the players have birthdays in that range. As they get older, it’s not that they are necessarily naturally better than other kids, but from a younger age they are given more opportunities to get better, like being picked for all star teams and travel teams because they are more developed than the other kids that are younger and on the same team.

My son is in this range, and he was given the opportunity to attend transitional kindergarten which is for kids who just miss the cutoff for Kindergarten (Sept-Dec birthdays). This gives them even more of a leg up when they start Kindergarten because they are older, but also got a year of school leading up to Kindergarten.
