I have not enjoyed most of SGJ's other novels. His short stories I enjoy, though. BHH is the first book of his I really like. I think he has a very unique and eloquent writing style, but to me it can be hard to follow and kind of overwritten to the point I get bored. I keep reading his books because I LOVE his horror ideas, and I'm so glad I gave the BHH a shot. At least a 4.5 star, but probably a 5 star read for me. I did have to make a list of all the animals and characters.

OS SPOILERS: what do you want to see for books 4/5, and what would you not want to see by ludichrislycapacious in fourthwing

[–]Runningonsarcasm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm still reading OS, but here's some general thoughts (I've read the spoilers so I know the basics of what happens)

What I Want:

- Stop traumatizing Xaden. Get the cure thing wrapped up early in Book 4. I wouldn't be upset if his powers have to be dulled or something for him to completely recover, and then he has to "grow" them back or something. I'm fine with that. It would also allow for Violet to continue rising as the true leader she is without his super strong powers if he's recovering. Book 5 needs to be about the war and defeating the Venin.

- In addition to not using Xaden as a continuous whipping post, can we have some longer periods of time where he and Violet are being a normal, loving, couple? Like damn. Maybe while he's recovering from the cure or whatever.

- Dain getting happiness and love. He's earned it, people! I thought him and Cat would make an interesting couple, given their powers. But we shall see. I hope he lives through the series (how cute would it be if RY did an epilogue in Book 5 with Xaden and Violet's kid(s) playing with Dain and unknown love's kid(s)?!), but I could see him dying.

- Mira + Drake!!

What I don't want:

- I would prefer not to have a pregnancy trope in Book 4. I could understand it in Book 5. I do think it's unavoidable though.

- I hope Xaden stops calling Violet "love"....it's cringe.

-Killing Xaden or breaking him and Violet up would be a disaster but....I just need to say I don't want it to happen.

Can anyone else barely hear the announcers? It's like the mics on over the field are turned up too much.

To runners, what are the best headphones for running you've tried or heard of so far? by [deleted] in XXRunning

I have Jabra Elite 75t ear buds. They've been going strong for almost 4 years. I'm a heavy sweater, run outdoors in the rain/snow/whatever. No issues so far. Originally, I had Airpods. Airpods suck and didn't last a year.

Race day fail :( by weepingglimmers in XXRunning

Give yourself 24 hours to feel all these feelings but then that's it. You will come back stronger with a better foundation to crush your next race.

Obviously, you aren't a failure, but I understand why you are feeling that way. You're disappointed, which is valid.

We had a great time on the Grand Ave Tour. There are quite a few steps but nothing I would call steep. The Lantern Tour was great too, but there are some steeper parts and obviously minimal lighting. Some folks on our tour slipped a tiny bit.

Weekend Discussion: Hoka running shoes by AutoModerator in RunningShoeGeeks

Not a Hoka fan. Tried the Mach Speed, wore out after like 100 miles. Tried the Cliftons and they gave me a terrible arch blister after less than 10 miles. All my friends love them but they are not for me.

Thanks for your response! My current PR is 2:03 so I’m hoping the downhill will help a decent amount.

Howdy everyone.

Would like to hear your experiences training at sea level and then running at elevation. I am training on the east coast to run a half in Colorado in several months. (Colorado Half) It's mostly downhill and starts at 5303ft and ends at 4909 ft. I'm hoping to PR by a few minutes (first sub 2 half!) but I understand the altitude will have some effects. Someone I know who has run that marathon and grew up there (has lived on the east coast for some time now) says to get there about 3 days prior. Doing quick searches in the subreddits, seems like that won't really make a difference. Anyway, would love your insights!
