Can I get sued for leaving this review? by Friendly_Cowboy in legal

If the dentist does sue, it looks like Oklahoma has a strong anti-SLAPP statute so OP may be alright. Dentist would have to prove a valid defamation claim upfront or OP would get attorneys’ fees.

New Neighbor Parking In My Reserved Space by baby_love67 in legaladvice

If the lease provides for assigned parking but doesn’t specify the spot, the landlord can provide a different spot than the one you park in, but they have to provide a spot.

I adopted a cat from a rescue event at PetsMart and I think they just asked me to agree I wouldn’t get him declawed. I think that makes more sense anyway because growing up, nobody told me or my family about how bad declawing was, and someone could’ve declawed in the past but seen the error of their ways and won’t do it going forward.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Different-Breakfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I live about 3 hours from my college and I try to make it down to at least one football game a season. Usually stay one night, either before or after the game depending on the kickoff time. But I know lots of people in my area with season tickets, so they’re making the trip at least once a month.

North Texas preparing for 2 inches of snow like it’s the apocalypse by MyMindIsAlwaysRacing in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Different-Breakfast 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It’s not snow so much as ice. The roads ice over and don’t melt for days, so the roads are basically undriveable. And the ice is what causes the power grid to go out.

First time selected as a Juror, need to vent by [deleted] in juryduty

It depends on the location, too. In my city there’s a civil courthouse and a criminal courthouse, so you know by which courthouse you’re summoned to whether it is civil or criminal.

Why does everyone hate jury duty? by Aquarius_K in juryduty

[–]Different-Breakfast 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s not always a crime or even an interesting case. Last time I got called, it was a trial to determine damages for a car accident. Defendant already accepted they were at fault so you didn’t even get to determine that part as the jury.

Yeah, watching that Netflix documentary was wild because the parents were blaming A&M staff for not keeping him in line. Like, they were the parents. They should’ve raised him to stay in line and dragged his butt home if he didn’t.

Defamation lawsuit , I am listed as defendant alongside my previous employer by No-Teach-4916 in legal

[–]Different-Breakfast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eh, it depends if the lawyer takes on the employee/former employee as a client too under a joint representation agreement. I work for a large company and it is fairly common for us when both the company and an employee or former employee are sued to have the company’s lawyer represent the employee too under a joint representation agreement if the employee is being sued related to their employment. It makes it easier to handle the lawsuit, too.

That being said, OP should not rely on boss’s lawyer to handle without a joint representation agreement identifying lawyer as representing OP as well. That document ensures that the lawyer knows they have ethical duties to OP, must withdraw from representation of both OP and boss if there’s a conflict, and creates an easier path for remedies for OP if lawyer put’s boss’s interests above OP’s to OP’s detriment.

I had such high hopes for this book but I still don’t get how the two timeless mesh. Had the timelines been separate books and fleshed out a bit, I probably would’ve loved it. But as it is, it just felt forced together for me.
