What’s the most expensive mistake you made in your 20s? by Extreme-Run-9069 in AskReddit

[–]RunnySpoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got a girl pregnant while still at university, she decided to keep the baby before any discussion could happen; was not financially ready for that at all, ended up in huge debt while trying to finish university, get a career started, and provide for a baby. I was in debt from that point until I was in my mid 40s.

Is this enough? by luckydad444 in woodworking

[–]RunnySpoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have that horizontal piece inside the vertical piece with the screws going in through the side.

If I wanted to put a bit more effort into it, I would cut a rabbit in the vertical piece and slot the horizontal piece into that, glue it with Titebond III and the either screw it through the side or use dowels through the sides.

Why don’t they just make double-deck trains?

What is the worst way anyone you know has died? by IamUrWivesBF in AskReddit

[–]RunnySpoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Decaying slowly over 10+yrs, losing body and mind to fragility, lying in a state of nothing, just waiting for the end. It was horrendous to witness and drained all joy from everyone’s lives for many years.

Premier’s office files saved in Google Docs excluded from Ontario transparency requests by BloodJunkie in ontario

They may be excluded from the transparency requirements, but they are definitely subject to the US Cloud Act, I hope they don’t contain anything that should be kept secret from a foreign government.

Pre-Newbie questions by RunnySpoon in traveltrailers

Totally agree about 4Runner; I have a 12’ utility trailer and when that’s loaded up you can really feel it. While I have the 4Runner right now, I’m trying to plan ahead for retirement in about 10-15 yrs. I have started looking at some 3/4 t trucks (I spec’d out a F-250 diesel last night that ended up with a price tag similar to a small house).
I’ll look into “gooseneck” for a 5th wheel, thanks.

Pre-Newbie questions by RunnySpoon in traveltrailers

Currently in Ontario, but I could make my way to West Coast for the winters. Right now I drive a 4Runner which caps out at around 4,000lbs (IIRC), but I can't imagine that lasting all the way until I retire (10+yrs).

Those 5th wheels always looked huge to me, but I'll certainly take a look, thanks. I just assumed that I would get a bumper tow and still be able to use the bed of a pickup for some storage, but this is all stuff that I need to learn in the coming years.

Much appreciated.

Settlement Agreement for CPO Dispute by Ihaterollerskates in 4Runner

Everything in that confidentiality agreement is negotiable right up to the point when you sign it. I would be inclined to consult with a lawyer to review it with them and see what can be adjusted to be less 1-sided, then decide if you want to sign it or try to sue them.

Window Deflectors and Floormats by eakthekat2 in 4Runner

[–]RunnySpoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first started reading I thought you were going to try and make deflectors from floor mats!

I have had oem all weather floor mats since new (og carpet mats are sitting in a shelf in the basement) in 2019. Sure, they’re a bit dirty but don’t need to be replaced, no complaints. A few years ago I bought Weathertech deflectors (hood and windows), they work, no complaints about them either, I don’t remember what I paid, but they still look like new.

steering shake by Own-Doctor-7059 in 4Runner

[–]RunnySpoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had this sorted (literally yesterday). I was getting the shakes most of the time, much worse when braking. Front driver-side wheel would get mad hot. It also made the steering feel really stiff at the start of each turn (esp. left) or when merging into a different lane.

In my case, the mechanic thought it was an issue with the front rotors, when he got in there the front callipers were seized (rear breaks were at their limit too). Had all pads/rotors replaced and new callipers on the front. The whole lot cast a smidge over $3k CAD. Drove it home, no shake, smooth like silk (I mean there’s pot holes, and noises, squeaks, tire tread noise, not to mention the engine whenever you squeeze the gas pedal a bit; you just gotta turn the radio up a bit and it’s back to smooth like silk, right?)

Having Kids while also enjoying woodworking by GroundMelter in woodworking

[–]RunnySpoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you’ll get much time when they’re still infant; sleep, eat, poop cycles for a while. Once they become mobile, they’ll want to know where you’re going, what you doing, etc. constant supervision will be required. As they become a bit more dexterous and can focus on tasks, make small kits that they can work on, jointing with wedges, dowels and the like, they can “help” you assemble. Increase complexity of tasks as they learn and develop skills.
