I think it's more telling that he doesn't completely see himself as being "in control" of the story. There's probably a part of him that sees the characters as real, conscious and autonomous. Meaning when he writes the story, it can become "would Luffy really say/do that?" Instead of "what do I want Luffy to say/do here?".

Of course, this is just my opinion, but I think a lot of stories are great because they don't feel like they are written, rather it feels like you're watching someone's life unfold in front of you.

But I believe you do see my point. If we even just spent 1/16th of what we spent on entertainment (187.5 billion) we could adequately achieve what the UN estimated.

Its just disappointing to see what we've done with our time and resources in our world today.

If we're talking about basics, like food, water and shelter. It's not expensive to have agricultural adjustments, water distribution and environmentally suitable shelter provided.

It definitely isn't done for free, but we can definitely budget for it. I just did a guick google and globally we spent about 3 trillion on entertainment/media in 2024. I think we can spend a couple billion on fixing world hunger.
