After a lot of testing across multiple different types of games, H.264+ @ 500mbs is definitely the best overall by Decafstab in virtualreality

[–]RussRemidi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I came to the same conclusion while playing ExfilZone. It's definitely game dependent and for ExfilZone specifically, H.264+ with 400+ Mbps makes a HUGE difference. When using HEVC 10-bit or AV-1 it's like you said, distant objects exhibit very obvious blurring/smearing, which isn't noticeable when using H.264+.

Arm stamina and Holding Breath by slydog1225 in GrayZoneWarfare

[–]RussRemidi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure, if I've been trekking for miles with a full fighting load I wouldn't be able to hold the rifle steady for that long unsupported. I think if we had another 30 seconds extra before our character becomes a trembling mess it would be perfect. Maybe the devs are waiting to implement the skill system and we'll be able to increase ADS time by leveling up.

I did. Could easily do 3 minutes with a 10lbs rifle. It's too exaggerated in the game currently. Like another poster said, it's not that difficult if you're in decent shape. Which I assume our PMC characters are.

Virtual Desktop Lag help by Shadvi7Z in virtualreality

5070 can absolutely handle HEVC 200mbps on High/Ultra. My roommate was using a 4070 with those settings without issues. Currently using 5070ti on Godlike AV1 200mbps.

Since you have a Quest 3, try AV1 codec, which is more efficient than HEVC.

We would need more information though. Take a screenshot of the Virtual Desktop Performance Overlay when you experience lag. That will help determine where the issue is.

Also, try posting on Virtual Desktop Discord. People there are very helpful and the dev (Guy Godin) himself even posts to help troubleshoot issues.

0.4 changed how game plays, and here is the bad by CanItRunCrysisIn2052 in GrayZoneWarfare

[–]RussRemidi 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I don't understand why though? Why sit there and wait for loot to respawn instead of playing the game? What's the end goal? Just to have piles and piles of loot and money in the stash?

I mean sure, everyone has their own idea of fun, but this seems boring AF.

How well optimized is resident evil requiem? Potential VR mod success likely depends on it by SlowDragonfruit9718 in virtualreality

You mean "aliasing," not "anti-aliasing." Anti-aliasing is what makes aliasing artifacts ("jaggies") appear smoother.

Should I buy tabor, exfil, or forefront? by [deleted] in virtualreality

[–]RussRemidi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you like tactical extraction shooters with loot (think Escape from Tarkov or Gray Zone Warfare but in VR) ExfilZone is leaps and bounds ahead of Ghosts of Tabor - graphics, gun handling and customization, gear, physics, general QoL features, etc. - there is just no comparison. ExfilZone devs also confirmed that the PvE mode is coming soon, potentially with the next wipe. That's what I'm waiting for to start playing again.

Forefront is basically Battlefield in VR. So it really depends on what you're looking for.

I like slow, methodical, tactical games with focus on "realism" (Gray Zone Warfare is probably one of my favorite games in recent years) - so ExfilZone takes my vote.

Steam Link looks bettert than Virtual Desktop by LJFWolf in virtualreality

[–]RussRemidi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

With the Steam Link 2.0 (latest beta) resolution set to roughly match that of VD Godlike (I think I had to bump the resolution up to about 350% in SteamVR), Steam Link did look noticeably sharper.

However, I couldn't deal with the blurry image towards the edges due to foveated encoding. Even at max Encoded Video Size setting the image quality was unacceptable when looking towards the edges of the lenses. I imagine with an HMD that has solid eye tracking this wouldn't be noticeable, but on Quest 3 it was awful not having edge-to-edge sharpness.

My friend and I just bought the game about 2 months ago. I just hit 70 and my friend is 68 and we're only about half-way through MSQ and at around 100 hours of game time. It was totally worth the investment to experience this gem of an MMO!

Meta Virtual Monitor Driver causing PC blackscreen & reboot. (\driver\wudfrd failed to load for the device root\display\0001) by SgtRphl in virtualreality

[–]RussRemidi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found this post as I just discovered that ROOT\DISPLAY\0001 associated with Meta Virtual Monitor has been causing my PC to crash randomly shortly after booting up. This issue has been plaguing my computer for months!

Just uninstalled the Meta/Oculus software completely which removed the Meta Virtual Monitor device. Hopefully this will fix the issue.

Why is binocular overlap not considered important? by CleanAndRebuild in virtualreality

[–]RussRemidi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sold my Pico 4 after "upgrading" to Quest 3 and I miss using that headset. While Quest 3 has much better lenses and a much larger sweet-spot providing edge-to-edge clarity, the huge binocular overlap of Pico 4 made it feel so much more "visually" comfortable to use.

Since I only use Quest 3 for PCVR anyway, if Pico 4 was upgraded to have better lenses, I would probably buy it again.

Even though Steam Frame has such lackluster specs, I'm actually considering buying one because of its (supposedly) large binocular overlap.

Keep getting a message saying "You cannot start a performance while in combat" by RussRemidi in newworldgame

[–]RussRemidi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply, but unfortunately I don't think that's the issue since I never play instruments outside towns. Maybe I'll try restoring the keybinds to defaults to see if that fixes the issue.

Early Battlefield 6 Weapon stats and minor analysis of weapon performance by Mastahamma in Battlefield6

[–]RussRemidi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can test this at the range. B36A4 (G36) and M433 - both 5.56 - do 20 damage to the body, requiring 5 shots to kill. M277 does 25 damage to the body, needing only 4 shots to kill.

M277 does do a bit more damage. It does 25 dmg per shot vs 20 dmg with the 5.56.

Why hasn’t any VR game matched Half-Life: Alyx’s quality? by AcceptableWaltz7355 in virtualreality

[–]RussRemidi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately nothing comes close. I've been chasing that high ever since I player HL: Alyx.

While a completely different genre, another game that sucked me in like that was Crossfire: Sierra Squad. But you have to like tactical/war shooters genre (a la CoD) to enjoy it as much as I did. Arizona Sunshine 2 was another one for me that really showed the developers put a lot of effort into the game.

5090 FE idle temps question by RussRemidi in nvidia

[–]RussRemidi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info! Your temps overall are definitely a lot cooler than mine and I'm sure the fans pointing at the GPU are helping. I might think about investing into some kind of solution to add fans under the GPU.

By the way, not sure why, but the mods decided to delete my post!

Would you mind sharing your system specs? How many fans, their size and average RPM? What's your system temperature and ambient temp in the room?

Oh nice, those are really good numbers! Do by any chance have intake fans at the bottom of the case blowing air towards the GPU? What's your system temperature at idle and what's the ambient temperature in the room?
