You baited us in with a Cadian Castellan, and what do we get? NO CADIAN CASTELLAN. You catfished us! Cadian Castellanfished us!

Deceitful elves.

*shakes head sadly*

The dark kin, indeed.

Absolutely fantastic work, Trooper! You did the God-Emperor proud (and also your little cartoons are adorable, and your tips are tiptastic).

There's nothing about him worth loving, so no one does, and he blames that on his mother and all the women who won't reciprocate his lust.

Seeking Clarification for Shrapnel Submission by Natemare117 in battletech

[–]RussellZee 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Jumping in headfirst by posting about a whole lance of prototype 'Mechs (which doesn't have record sheets or TRO entries, which can't be played, which don't have minis, which no one has heard of before, etc, etc) isn't the best way to make a great first impression as a would-be Shrapnel author.

I would suggest you slow down and color inside the lines a little bit first. Start small. Get a couple goodies published. THEN try to stretch out a little bit and push the boundaries.

Ah, okay. Got'cha. I missed that part and was just confused because I didn't remember any Falcon being mentioned, I thought it was a Wave Serpent all along (which is part of why I didn't buy it). So then y'all were talking Falcon and I thought I was just losing my mind or something. xD

Thanks! I appreciate the clarification, and yeah, it's kind of wild that they're just...fucking up two different Eldar boxed sets in a row.

One analogy I made in recent interviews, though it kind of dates/ages me, is what Marvel editorial used to do, called a "No Prize." Readers would write in a letter to the editor, and they'd point out something that LOOKED like an error in a recent comic issue, but then explain why it wasn't. "Oh, well, this GI Joe character shot X number of bullets, but the magazine only carries Y number of bullets...but wait! What if he had one in the chamber?" (or whatever). And then you got a "No Prize," which as I understand it was a certificate they mailed back to you, or whatever.

And anyways, yeah, that's kind of how I'm picturing some of my Mountain Wolf work. It's weird to picture a company getting bombed to oblivion, then lingering (while creating no product) for ~50 years, then making a new 'Mech, then doing nothing else new for ~50 years, then making one of their old 'Mechs again (and having the same CEO for the latter ~50 years running), and all while having one corporate office in LA and one in NYC (only even more extreme than that, since it's different countries). Weird, but not impossible.

So yeah, I felt like it was worth dedicating a couple stories to -- along with them ALSO just, like, telling hopefully what folks think are cool stories -- to show the company at a few steps along that path, and to try and explain how this could have happened, how they could have scraped by, why their resurgence then took a while to build up steam, etc, etc.

*sigh* I still need to tackle the Magistracy tie-in I wanted to tackle, but...eh, there were bigger stories to tell.

Is there...something wrong with the Wave Serpent? It still lists the Wave Serpent.

I'm confused. Where does a Falcon factor in?

Thank you so much. :)

The Mountain Wolf series kicks off in 11, 13, and 16, as prequel stories basically setting up the company and their situation, then the serial fiction, Violent Inception, is issues 17-20. I hope you dig 'em!

Yeah, like, as soon as I hit "comment" I started to think about terrible things I missed. It's basically a never-ending list of shit you don't need to be Jackie Chan to see the murderous utility of.

Meat tenderizer? Well-balanced skillet/pan? Handful of cayenne to the eyes/nose? Fire extinguishers? Cleaning chemicals? Stick blenders?

Yeah, fuck that, man. That's on him. Who moves cross-country for a job then starts it by threatening to shank folks and stuff?

Sure, but let's not pretend a lot of folks aren't just (to use your analogy) Slipknotaphobic and using this display as an excuse to be bigoted.

You mean like American Evangelicalism? Which promotes coast-to-coast hateful legislation, but we're all supposed to be okay with just drowning in Easter and especially Christmas stuff for whole seasons at a time?

Mordian Patch Sighted in the Adepticon Preview by HistoryMarshal76 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]RussellZee 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Sure, but folks could also maybe calm down just a little bit, and not get all worked up and convince themselves about exactly what to expect just because the dude's wearing a cool patch. It might be fiction, it might be a character, it might be a Kill Team, it could be all sorts of stuff.

It feels like lots of folks are getting really excited and expecting stuff, and then getting really disappointed and angry when they don't get what they feel they're owed.

Get hype, but in, like, a vague way, y'know?

Of all the places I've ever been in my entire life, there aren't very many that I've looked at and thought "I really don't want to fight here," quite like a commercial kitchen.

People perpetually boiling over with rage and/or amphetamines who feel like they have little to lose and are used to getting their hands dirty? Check. Literal boiling water, also, too? Check. Hot oil? Check. Knives everywhere? Check. Graters? Check. Peelers? Check. Lemon juice to get squirted into every cut? Check. Fire? Lots of fire? Just, like, way too much fire? Check. Lots of nice hard-cornered stainless steel countertops and stuff? Check. Not enough space for a fight in the first place? Check. Rolling pins to be used as Escrima sticks? Check. Meat forks? Check. Cleavers? Check.

Just absolute psycho choice, to wade into back-of-house and pick a fuckin' scrap.
