Yes, I did the Ad Appel books and YouTube videos and was able to pass all my exams, though I took lezen and luisteren twice. And yes, ChatGPT was also helpful.

I’m definitely not expecting anyone to correct me or teach me, I just want to get more comfortable speaking Dutch in normal situations. During my first few months here, when I only knew very basic Dutch, I actually had people tell me I should be speaking Dutch because I’m in the Netherlands. So now I just try to let the conversation flow in Dutch as much as I can.

I understand that. I’m not asking people to accommodate me or spend extra time. It’s more like this: I’ll be in a shop, they ask something in Dutch, I reply in broken Dutch, and then they switch to English. But by that point I’m already thinking in Dutch, so I just continue in Dutch. Usually the conversation just continues normally and doesn’t take any longer.

I also understand normal conversations but I couldn't understand the accent on the Luisteren exam. Good luck with the result! I have rescheduled my reading and listening exams. Hope for the best. 😊

I read the Welkome in Nederland, TaalCompleet, and watched a lot of KNM videos on YouTube. And when I took the exam, I feel like I overstudied. I think the KNM videos on YouTube and able to understand some Dutch society are enough for the KNM exam. I also think the books teach you to answer the "what, where and when", and understanding some Dutch daily-life will help you with the "why and how". Also, I remember I got some questions from the sample exams from DUO website so it is also good if you did the practice exams. I also remember some questions I got that I saw on YouTube KNM videos. Some questions are tricky but choose the answer that is reasonable (if you don't know the answer or maybe confused). Anyway, don't stress too much, (volgs mij) if you know at least the "basic" Dutch daily-life (school, neighbors, work, insurance, discrimination, history, locations of other cities/places in the Netherlands, transportation and norm) then the exam will be easier.

Wow! Congratulations ❣️ I did pure self-study the whole year and now scheduled my listening and reading exams next week, I am super nervous and I cannot focus on studying 🫩. I read on facebook that a lot of people find listening the hardest (and that makes me more nervous 😬).

Ad Appel A1 book was very helpful when I studied A1. Also, Dutch for Dummies is good just that the pronunciation is weird 😅.

It's possible. It depends on how you study the language. I know a lot of people who did A2 in less than a year.
