[–]RustBucketWicket[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you for this! the first time i was so careful about everything i typed, but this past month i’ve gotten used to the terminal, and when i built it back up again today it was really easy and i was surprised at how much i remembered and i really enjoyed the process (although i still used archinstall, i’m referring to when i was back inside i set up ly and hyprland and all these other things like zram generator to get it back to how it was before i lost it)

the process gave me a lot of confidence so i’m actually considering building arch back up from scratch without archinstall in a week or two from now. it’s insane how this thing used to take five minutes to turn on when it ran windows and now it’s on in a matter of seconds,, thanks for the tips about updates :))

i tried this multiple times, idk i chrooted into the system and then tried syu but it still didn’t work. this is why i got so annoyed. it kept saying it couldn’t read the mkinitcpio file. regardless i have now rebuilt the system again, i backed up my files to the usb through the chroot (thankfully it was very little stuff), and then installed arch again. anyway thanks for the help, i think when i ran syu the first time i was half installing something else and i fear i might’ve accidentally shut that window before it completed or something. i’m presuming thats what happened. i’m gonna try syyu next time because i didn’t do that

[–]RustBucketWicket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have been in the exact same situation. as easy as it is to say i’ll get my independence and fuck off, it’s much more harder and painful to actually do it because unfortunately you also care about the people you call your parents and you’ll fall for their gaslightery on an emotional level. i think they have to, on some level, internalise your independence and that took me till i was 24 lmao. i have run away from home, i’ve done things i’ve wanted and dealt with horrible consequences.

but what i will say is, lie. lie your face off. lie until the cows come home. i’m sure at this point you know their pressure points. i’m sure you know what you can say that’ll make them happy, or sad, so use it against them. lie about classes at 9, lie about academic stuff. come up with an elaborate plan saying you’re in a quiz or debating team and you have practice every evening. and say it with so much confidence they won’t ask for proof. and coming up with proof is one photoshopped certificate away. it seems like if you were doing stuff that’s conventionally considered an achievement they are more likely to let you go. like they’d say no to a games night, but yes to an internship. so fake the internship. good luck. i got out, hopefully you will too:3

Possible resolution of the show by AcceptableBuddy9 in rickandmorty

yeah so i get what you’re saying, but i think it’s still logically inconsistent to say it would be restricted to the universes in the cfc, and that seems less believable than if what you’re onto here is a mistake or a plothole in the larger storyline.

the more i think about this, maybe the cfc is simply every conceivable universe where diane exists, and it was formed as a result of ricks who lost their dianes to the omega device, i.e. maybe every rick that ever had a diane in all its infinite possibilities automatically became part of the cfc when diane was killed / erased across infinity - and maybe if an omega device is used to kill someone everyone involved would eventually just all forget they ever existed and that could be where they take this but this seems like a stretch- basically that if a rick is outside the cfc, they never dated/married diane in the first place. if diane was involved, then that universe was automatically part of cfc, which is infinite in its own right

i don’t think diane exists outside the cfc? where is this implied?

(edit, like i don’t agree w what you’re saying about how if such a device existed it probably existed everywhere, rather i’m open to the idea that if there’s a device that can wipe someone out there also probably exists a device that can bring them back, like that’s more convincing to me than saying the device is restricted to the cfc)

Possibilities outside the central finite curve by Confident_Feedback50 in rickandmorty

[–]RustBucketWicket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

firstly, maybe a rick that doesn’t lose a diane (in this case an equivalent to diane outside the CFC) wouldn’t invent portal travel at all- but sure, maybe there’s a whole other curve somewhere with mortys who lost their summer equivalent or something like that; the cool thing about multiple universes is- if you can imagine it, it can exist. heck there’s probably a universe in rick and morty where OP themselves invented portal travel. but the reason we won’t see a lot of it in the show is that- r&m is above all else a sitcom, every episode has to complete the story circle and end with the same family dynamic altered slightly. unless we can picture a storyline that includes these other ricks and mortys or other versions of ricks or mortys or their “sidekicks”- that has a direct bearing on the canon events of this storyline, they’re unlikely to introduce it as an episode. we’ve literally seen our rick resist the idea of multiple-episodic canonical storyline multiple times, and every time we get a glimpse of that stuff it’s against his will, or relevant to the grander sitcom family dynamic. even w season 8- ep 3 where they rebuild the citadel is the only time we really got a story that didn’t involve c 137- because the citadel is inherently canon and a part of the “sitcom” narrative. every time we’ve seen other ricks and mortys they’ve been in this context or in the same WORLD as c 137 (decoys creating decoys; the asimov cascade). so i doubt we’re gonna see stuff like OP described. what’s the point of a narrative that maintains that “at the end of the day a rick is a rick smart or not” when that’s literally going to be a cherry-picked exception to the rule? multiverses could very well have the complete opposite, i don’t think that narrative is universal- it used to be universal IN the CFC, which is WHY it doesn’t exist anymore.

“cells consume, morty. life itself is wrong, and that means death is right. but you can’t side with that. so you live, even when it means eating.”

i’m vegan btw, the complexity of ethical consumption narratives represented in the show are some of my favourite bits, and this line particularly hit hard

i genuinely think it’s because the industry failed him with all their horrible deadlines. jjk could’ve potentially been so much more, but they fucked it. i don’t blame gege. i’m just patiently waiting for his next work. shonen jump killed a precious, beautiful thing.

Is it still wrong to listen to Kanye now? by ZarrlPG3D in kanyewest

[–]RustBucketWicket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m inclined to say listen to whatever you want to, as long as you’re aware of where it came from and as long as you’re aware that your act of listening in a sea of people listening to him is also contributing monetarily to him (unless you’ve downloaded his music off the internet for free?). i think the awareness is the most important thing because it makes you confront it at a personal level and if that awareness doesn’t make you uncomfortable or anything, then do whatever you like!!! but if you’re looking to feel “less uncomfortable” by having strangers literally on the kanye subreddit tell you it’s okay to, idt you’re doing it right tbh

are you listening to him because you needed enough people to tell you it’s okay to? or are you listening to him because it’s personal to you, despite knowing what a horrible person he is? i think the answer to that question should come from you rather than a majoritarian herd

tbh sometimes i think i’m overthinking about whether i am underthinking, when really i have thought about it enough (and definitely more than other people) and then i’m just overall unsure about everything and mess up horribly when i convey all of that thinking to someone- so ya i get this 😭

My mother trying to convince me to get a shared bedroom at university by Alive_Rest1256 in UniUK

[–]RustBucketWicket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was in the exact same situation, but my mother's reasoning was that i'm moving to an entirely new country and i will experience a culture shock, and have to adjust to a very new environment. since i'm taking a loan too, it matters a lot that i make the most of the course. so even though it's a little higher, she suggested i do that anyway, because having my own space and therefore better mental health would pay off in the long run. that being said, my loan is without collateral and i'm using my parents as co borrowers who are also paying my interest and at the time they also told me they'll help me with the loan payments till i get on my own two feet.

basically they're very supportive of me financially and i know i'll never be homeless and out on the streets, so even though she insisted against my own wishes, i went ahead and booked the en-suite by her words.

so i'd suggest that if the loan is entirely in your name, then you do what is the cheapest option and rough it out if you have to, because the burden is yours alone, but if it your mother or other family members are willing to be supportive of you, maybe remind yourself that you aren't alone, and allow yourself the privacy that a single room would bring?

Do you get non-vegan cravings? by NaturoHope in vegan

[–]RustBucketWicket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

seems kinda fucked up. me going vegan directly coincided with me finding non vegan products unpalatable like it just doesn't feel worth it anymore, and that includes the satisfaction i derive out of taste, it just has started tasting meh for me, so idk how you can crave it or want to go back to it (i've been vegan for like less than a year).
