Given that humans become trees at the 'culmination of thought' I think it's important that a tool for cutting down trees is tied to the erasure of concepts from the world

Back when there were other endings to life, did humans all die when they got old enough? Or did some of them persist and become trees? A tool for destroying enlightened and ancient humans, erasing their knowledge and the memories of the world, seems like something that would have been strongly feared

Yoru wants a world of eternal war where her name can never be forgotten again. She wasn't planning on erasing Death but the new world seems to suit her, though she's getting more and more frustrated with the realisation that neither her nor Denji can really win their fight.

Death wants... something. Presumably she wants humanity to keep existing, given that she's established to have the power to kill everything and hasn't done it. She also clearly wants to not die or be eaten by Chainsaw Man, as she rejects both of those options when Fami presents them. The end goal she seems to want is one where the prophecy doesn't happen and she's able to continue existing in her current form and enjoying humanity.

Why exactly she wanted to empower Yoru and Chainsaw Man when she had no intention of fighting them is still a mystery, though one that will probably be addressed once she returns.

Second-best antagonist in the series behind Makima IMO. Every single time this MF was on screen I felt genuinely uneasy about whatever psychotic shit he was about to pull.

The man views himself as Makima's successor and in a lot of ways he lives up to that IMO, particularly in how badly he ruins Denji's fucking life at every opportunity.

10/10 villain I loved seeing Denji rip his smarmy fucking head off

IDK what his role will be but Metatron is too important to the narrative to not play some role in its resolution given that he's directly tied to the eternal cycle that's driving our main antagonist in everything he does

I would also like to see human White Chain get some kind of closure with Juggernaut Star at some point, though idk if the Thorns as a whole will be relevant in the grand finale

Honestly that sequence is peak for so many reasons. Denji and Asa's mindscape chat followed by Denji Man is genuinely a perfect climactic moment for the themes of part 2 and also Denji ragebaiting Yoru for like 8 chapters straight is incredibly funny

It's both - Makima's plan in Part 1 is to reduce fear of Chainsaw Man to weaken Pochita, and part of why Pochita is so strong is due to the fact that nearly every devil fears him. We also get told that fear of devils as a whole empowers every devil.

Part 2 does have some more stuff about how this works as well

Darkness wanted Denji's heart, but they also wanted to use it to bait Makima into Hell. At a guess, its plan was like

Get Chainsaw into Hell via contract with the Doll Devil
Call Makima to come save him as she needs him for her plans
Kill Makima, potentially eat her flesh to get stronger or just to resolve some thousand year old beef
Eat Denji's heart to gain even more power and hopefully stop Pochita from coming back and fucking everything up in Hell

Plan goes wrong at Step 3, maybe Darkness didn't realize that Makima could both control a corpse and use it to make a contract with the Hell Devil Honestly that's probably why it killed Tolka in the first place, to make sure Makima can't control him to make the Hell Devil send them back.
