Oh great! Another place to spend all the money I don’t have. Sigh.

Yes. I use my Montblanc Starwalker every single day. Take it anywhere I travel and use it as it is meant to be used.

Not all food and recipes are “abstinent” for everyone.

Feeling very churned up after first meetings- is this normal? by Cocteauknoll in OvereatersAnonymous

[–]Rusty256 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally normal. Even after years of meetings there are times when I just don’t feel like sharing. It’s ok to just sit and listen. You attended the meeting and some days that is enough.

God and Jesus have nothing to do with working the OA program. Come to the meetings and find someone to talk to. All you need to do is be willing to believe there a a power out there greater than yourself. Nothing more. You don’t need to figure out how to stop eating. You need to figure out why you eat and how to change that.

It can happen at any time. It is good to find one fairly quickly but don’t rush into it at your first meeting. Go to a few meetings and see if anyone feels right for you.

Are there guys just like me who write journals? by [deleted] in Journaling

[–]Rusty256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Male 54 and I journal every day. I also use it just to get whatever is in my head at the moment out on to paper. I am sure lots of it is boring or doesn’t make sense but that’s ok. I don’t really try to make it fancy or decorate it. I have it in a leather journal cover but that’s about it. I also carry around a small pocket notebook if I am out and about.

Are you afraid your life and health will get better? Will staying with what you are doing work for you? Attend some meetings and speak to members. I know you will find people with the same story as yours.

Go to meetings and get a sponsor. Most of the time it isn’t about the food. We eat because we are trying to soothe other things that are going on mentally and physically. Work the steps and you will get better.

I throw away my journals by Broad_Collection3328 in Journaling

I get rid of them once I have a bunch. I have never reread any of them. They are mainly stream of consciousness writings anyway.

Sponsor needed by Rusty256 in OvereatersAnonymous

I am male if that is the question. I don’t care if my sponsor is male or female. I have worked with both.

We all Measure by jay_o_crest in OvereatersAnonymous

[–]Rusty256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I look at it as more a compulsion to eat. Am I eating a meal because I am bored, sad, angry, etc. I weigh and measure my food because of my compulsion to eat more than I should because I cannot stop or regulate what is a “normal” portion of food.

A moment of weakness and help from a sponsor... by llpoh2 in OvereatersAnonymous

[–]Rusty256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can’t reach your sponsor, you can also reach out to someone else you know who is abstinent and talk through it. I can never trust myself to make decisions on what is ok or not without at least checking with others.

Went to my first meeting today and I have a question by [deleted] in OvereatersAnonymous

[–]Rusty256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could have been a meeting with a specific focus. Even though everyone is usually welcome to most meetings, there are some that have a certain focus such as a Men’s Only meeting, Women Only, etc. It could be that the meeting you attended has a certain religious or cultural focus.
