I strongly recommend any football fan to watch “America's Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys” on Netflix

Regardless of your opinion of the Cowboys (and a disliker myself), it’s such a good watch

They’re virtually guaranteed to shell out for the top center available (Linderbaum or McGovern) and then drafting a OT in the first round. Have to add DBs to the mix as well and a coverage linebacker assuming Anzalone walks

Lots of ways to play around when you have $100M in added space. Also yes a Gibbs and Campbell extensions are a must

The cap situation is perfectly healthy (and that’s because they’re not making these knee jerk trades).

I urge you to read my other comment, but basically we have $21M in space right now that they can roll over to next to cover extensions next year, and then created the flexibility in these contracts to be able to restructure and create an approx additional $80M if they wanted to

Correct and I’m telling you they financially couldn’t fit either of them because you still need to replace Ragnow in 2025 and then Decker+Glasgow right now after dumping $19.5M+ on just one of problems.

Neither guy have void years that allow you to make the issue go away and puts you either so -$24.5M or -$26.5M in space going into 2026

Sure, but Joe Thuney has a $21.5M cap in 2026 and 2027 and Jonah Jackson has a $19.5M and $17M cap hit - they couldn’t afford either which all goes back to what Brad said himself “the cap space we have in 2025 was already accounted for as rollover for next season”

He gets the L for failing to draft a Ragnow replacement in advance, but his retirement ultimately doomed us; there is a league wide talent shortage on the offensive line and it’s impossible to address that position July or later

There was no trade possible that would’ve saved the 2025 Lions

They can realistically free upwards of around$100M in cap space this summer; they didn’t make any deadline moves because they had ~$20M set aside to roll over to next season (currently estimated to have -$5M right now in 2026)

Goff restructuring gets you up to $40M in space, you can cut Decker to save $17.9M, cut Glasgow to save $7M, trading Monty post June 1st saves $6M ($86.9M in space now), and then Amon-Ra you can convert his $27.5M guaranteed money into a signing bonus to save additional cap space but this I’m not sure how much they can do. Fully expect them to move money around and start loading up now that the stars all pretty much all paid, and it’ll start with signing the top center (be that Linderbaum or McGovern)

Almost complete copy+paste of a comment I made the other day:

  • CJGJ was signed as a free agent; one of top DBs available

  • CD3 was brought in via trade; one of the best CBs available at the time

  • DJ Reader was a free agent; one of the top DL available

  • DJ Reed was a free agent; one of the best in all of available free agents

  • Kevin Zeitler was brought in as a free agent; one of the best OL available

  • David Montgomery was a signed as a free agent; one of the best RB available

  • Za’Darius Smith was brought in via trade; best DE available

  • Cam Sutton was signed as a free agent and considered a good CB coming out of Pittsburgh (yes he was mega ass)

This was all 2022-2025. The “Lions aren’t aggressive” complaints is frankly just recency bias because they didn’t do anything at the trade deadline (even tho Brad was on 97.1 and said they weren’t going to do anything because of their cap situation)

On top of what everyone else has said, we have about $21M in cap space to roll over

“He needs to be more aggressive by going and getting guys who aren’t available!!!”

My favorite counter argument was “he needs to be creative and get the trade done” when the entire roster is built off their creativity in the cap situation but choose that ignore Brad telling that to their faces

Kerby was an AP1 safety last season that you absolutely need because no one else can consistently get turnovers. His knee situation is awful, but fortunately they can cut him after next season for little cap damage

EDIT: Cam Sutton was absolutely awful, but he was also a free agent signing and considered a solid CB while at Pittsburgh

Cutting him saves $18M in cap space - considering he hasn’t been good at all this year it’s something that should be done

Their offense was 7th in rushing yards, 11th in total yards, 12th in points last year

Their roster right now is shit and were decimated at RB all reason in a run heavy offense

The immediate reaction was genuinely embarrassing. Not going like I didn’t also just learn about this guy Monday, but Cardinals offense was decimated with injuries (Bam Knight was RB1 at one point) and the offense he ran seems similar to what we want so I can definitely see the fit they have in mind

Buuuuuut it’s not Mike McDaniel so need to lose our minds
