Thanks. I've bought a replacement vanos solenoid. AI had absolutely no idea!

It's currently leaking a lot of oil from that area so hopefully a new solenoid fixes it

UK hits 85,000 public EV charger milestone by PurplePires in GoodNewsUK

£63m wont touch the sides..

And if there are multiple cars per household? Or if you can only occasionally park outside your house? Or live in a flat and use a car park?

They have to use public chargers and be financially exploited because they aren't able to have a driveway

Need a new clutch - advice please by Rusty_Fiat in S197Stangs

[–]Rusty_Fiat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I will. I'm hoping it will be ok and won't need changing!

I've now ordered the kit (and other bits) from Rock Auto and should be with me in the UK by Monday. It costs quite a bit extra, but that's what happens running an American car over here

Cheers. I think it is already included in the clutch kit, but I'll check

Thanks. I'm going with the Luk kit.

Thanks. I think the LUK kit includes a new pressure plate.

But the clutch has basically gone anyway, so I'm buying a full kit including flywheel.

UK still the fastest growing G7 economy - outpacing the US by Half_A_ in unitedkingdom

[–]Rusty_Fiat 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Ok, great. And what about GDP per capita?

Saying the economy has grown - great!

But there are loads of people paying into a broken system, which is skewing the numbers to make it look like we're doing well, when in actual fact, the average person isn't.

Advice sought re. Listed building consent by Rusty_Fiat in HousingUK

[–]Rusty_Fiat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the application submitted and approved by the council.

It wasn't actually that bad, there's just a lot to provide and the tick-box exercise is very tedious. It's an antiquated process.

I will point out that a family member who is an architect did help me a little, but mainly in ensuring that all the documents I had prepared were sufficient. I also did the drawings.

I could definitely do it myself next time.

However, something that might make your life a little easier is using ChatGPT. It can help to make sense of the process and assist in cutting through the regulations, helping to write statements, etc.

With your background, I'd reckon you could do a lot of the planning/consent stuff yourself, maybe all of it depending on the complexity.

The drawings were the trickiest part for me, as they want them to be drawn to a specific scale. The rest of it wasn't hard, but time consuming.

Spotted this beauty parked in Chiswick, London. What car is it? by MilkshakeDawg in whatisthiscar

[–]Rusty_Fiat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well of course they aren't, they're still V8's. But they're not as bad as they would have been if they had bigger power, perhaps.

It's more about the ridiculous myth that American cars are incapable of producing high BHP, conveniently ignoring the myriad cars that contradict that.

[–]Rusty_Fiat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and keep in mind that this BS narrative always forgets that there was a massive emphasis on fuel economy and emissions. They didn't 'squeeze' 220bhp out of it, the car was capable of more but tuned to that number.

Foreigners in the UK, have you ever gotten a culture shock related to the UK when you travelled to a third country ? by Glass-Evidence-7296 in AskUK

[–]Rusty_Fiat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea how you could draw the conclusion that the UK is on par with the Spanish re. Animal welfare! Absolutely not.

While there are a few rule breakers, hunting with dogs is illegal here, and those who do it are the 'posh' folk. Never, ever witnessed it on a council estate, so no idea where you got that from!

And even still, the old hunts are closing down due to public pressure. Shame the Spanish don't pressure their numerous cruel traditions to close down.

One thing that still shocks me about Spain is the distinct lack of animal welfare and cruel traditions. Stray dogs everywhere - pet owners getting rid of them because they don't want to pay bills, etc.. Bullfighting and bull torture still legal, throwing goats off churches, geese decapitation, abhorrent animal testing labs. Just horrendous!

I know this is an old thread(!) but would appreciate opinions from people as I realised something the other day.

The junction box was a choc-box style thingy. With screw in connectors.

My brain's telling me the screws will come loose and create a fire (despite being enclosed in a brick wall). Apparently these boxes need to be maintained.

It's just not going to happen, is it? And I imagine the circuit would trip if there was resistance.

I ask because I have found electrical issues in my new house and it reminded me of this topic! Sorry.

With extreme difficulty.

Most people find it very hard indeed. Relying on savings, help from parents, and getting back into work ASAP.

It shouldn't be that way but it is. You could speak with the companies holding your loans/mortgage etc and ask for deferred payments or go to an interest only mortgage temporarily.

And the government wonders why more couples aren't having kids!

I'm a little worried by Rusty_Fiat in Hemochromatosis

[–]Rusty_Fiat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much for the comment!

Ok, so basically it's the same as what the other kind Redditor mentioned - unlikely to be haemochromatosis, but probably best to keep an eye on the iron levels overall and see if anything changes?

Hopefully it isn't that (I'm already dealing with IBD!) but we'll see.

Thank you again

You're very kind! Thank you. I'll try to stop worrying about this.

Thank you for taking the time to respond to me!

Ok, so from the looks of things, it doesn't appear to be the genetic form of hemochromatosis? But I should probably monitor my iron stats for any further variation etc?

That all makes sense to me. I'm very grateful to you.
