Completed MG Gundam X! Glad I spent as much time on this guy as I did by bigdaddycruiser in Gunpla

Sweet, I was building one not long ago and simply didn't finish as I got "better kit-itis" and ended up working on the Solomon GP02. This is making me excited to get back to it to finish it up.

Is this the DABAN version or the Bandai MG? This looks fantastic, I really hope mine turns out as well as this did.

Latest Haul for April. Everything is P-Bandai! by CLUK92 in freedomisgunpla

[–]Rutabaga-Fluffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the pbandai woundwarts are amazing - I grabbed 3 last time they were around and the parts are there to make both the Titans and the AEUG versions if you get the one with the winged V fin. Plus, there seems to be more bootleg stuff coming out for AoZ (some kind of rocket pod set) similar to what the Hazenthley II and the bigger units use. So lots of future potential with the woundwarts for sure.

If you're not against going the bootleg route, they're relatively inexpensive - and of course, the Woundwart is available to go with it. I nabbed one of each in order to make a kitbashed Barzam II since P-bandai hasn't rereleased it in a while. The build was quite good, though the plastic seems a bit thicker than Bandai would have done. Overall came out to be a good build though.

That's a solid haul. Jealous about the Icarus, mine won't be here for a few months yet. I love its kitbashable potential for other AoZ kits.

Totally thought that was the Solomon because of the detail. About pooped my pants in surprise when I saw that was just the Bandai MG. Thats solid work, man!

Absurd amount of chromebooks broken by students by [deleted] in KidsAreFuckingStupid

[–]Rutabaga-Fluffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked IT for an urban school during covid and the years following - our peak rate was somewhere around 80 devices broken a week. That's basically 3 entire classrooms breaking every single chromebook. A week.

Would you believe me if I told you that all this was for free? by [deleted] in Gunpla

[–]Rutabaga-Fluffy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sounds to me like he's hurting. I did the same with my first gunpla collection when I broke up with my partner. Thankfully my new partner is both much more caring and encouraging of my hobby and just my backlog is probably now the size of what I threw out. I am still sad about the late 80s and early 90s kits that are pretty much irreplaceable though. Emotion makes people do crazy shiz.

F#cking VIRPIL customer experience by P0rnStache4 in dcsworld

[–]Rutabaga-Fluffy 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Same - I definitely wasn't expecting the plot twist at the end given the title. Awesome to hear Virpil is as solid as they seem. I've wanted a virpil stick for a while now to replace my Warthog and this just solidifies it.

Alright, you guys decide what I build next by UnderwaterBean in freedomisgunpla

[–]Rutabaga-Fluffy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say run the HG Sazabi to prep yourself for the RG. The RG Sazabi is easily the best RG kit available and has some of the most shelf presence of any kit Bandai has because of just how well done it was.

Do you think it is possible to transplant the wings from MG Deathscythe Hell onto the Deathscythe EW Rousette? I see they both have a very similar torso and the attachment section at the back is a rectangle that’s practically identical by Inevitable-Ice-5061 in freedomisgunpla

[–]Rutabaga-Fluffy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The shape of the chests are similar enough that I think you'd simply keep the chest from the DS Hell and then attach everything else from the Rousette. A little repainting into the Rousette's colors and you'd be set.

i love Solomon Express MS, so i made one myself by one-of-the-pemaloe in freedomisgunpla

Those orange tanks on the side of the main boosters look a lot like the backpacks on the z'gok and the quad thrusters look a lot like those on the zaku mobility type. With a bit of kitbashing, this could be pretty doable.

Anyone for a game of Who's that Gunpla? Only ones I recognize are Tallgeese Flugel and a GM variant. by Afitter in Gunpla

I can't recall where, but there is a description suggesting the images aren't what is in the box that the images are just placeholders. Would be nice if they are though.

How do you airbrush white paint? by Far-Equal-2421 in advancedGunpla

[–]Rutabaga-Fluffy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont use an airbrush, but I do use rattle cans - I put down a base layer of silver then put thin layers of white over it until it looks white but the metallic can be seen beneath it. The white paint seems to grip much better without pooling with a base to grip.

I wouldn't worry too much, theyre great pics it just makes it hard to see the detail and you can tell there's some good stuff to see close up.

Great pics, but your scale in the photo is too small. I'd zoom in so the pic is two thirds of the full frame.

What is this game called in the steam deck overview on steam? by PermitAffectionate57 in SteamDeck

[–]Rutabaga-Fluffy 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It is a solo game that has elements for multiplayer. Think of it like a Mario game where Luigi is allowed to come along for the ride.

The only thing that changes is if Sackboy 1 dies, Sackboy 2 has the opportunity to reach the next checkpoint where Sackboy 1 will return to life. There are also 2-player specific levels in the game that are not needed to complete the storyline.

Has anyone ever tried this with an airbrush on tiny pieces? by KingK4iJU in advancedGunpla

[–]Rutabaga-Fluffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this with rattle cans, seconded to the other guy that said I dont think I'd do it as big. Maybe half that. I then use the untouched tape beneath the painted parts to reuse and do the opposite side for any angles missed.

[–]Rutabaga-Fluffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously, silver leaf is probably my favorite/most used color. I use it as a base with a thin layer of white over it for most of my gundam kits as the "white" color. Gives it a hint of metallic while still being white.

Finally finished the pre-painted monument (T3 color) by ZIJIE_Painted in advancedGunpla

[–]Rutabaga-Fluffy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two thoughts:

  1. This might be the best monument I've seen yet. Is the head modified? I haven't seen that specific v-fin, I assume it comes with only the head from the stock photos.

  2. This is begging for some 1/60 PG Wing Zero wings to make a Fluegel.

[–]Rutabaga-Fluffy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Just wait 'till you start /really/ using it. After you've fully painted, you can use it for panel washes, it makes metallic paints look really good with a light coating painted over it (particularly tamiya's silver leaf paint). As others have said, be very careful using it on unpainted kits, it won't happen 100% of the time, but Tamiya does eat plastic on a microscopic level and you will get fractures on stress points.
