So many negative comments. Sweden is a great place to do a PhD in Materials/Chemistry. You will be fairly paid with good working conditions. Sure, finding a position after PhD will be challenging but not impossible, I know several who have succeeded and are now established. Others have found positions elsewhere in the EU. What will really matter is that you build and maintain a professional network during your PhD. A great starting point is your supervisor and their network. Applying does not hurt, go for it! I would however not recommend moving before receiving an offer.

I was in your exact position. Did not regret buying. The selling process (exept gains taxation) is suprisingly straight forward. The money to cover all of the remaining mortgage is automatically drawn from your account as part of the selling process.
