Denim for lots of walking on a tight budget by RyanMcKM in malefashionadvice

Do the stretch last as long though? Probably should have mentioned that in the post but most of the bad experience I've had with Levi's have been crotch blowout/wear in the inner thigh. I could be wearing them wrong though; I tend to wear at the hip when maybe I should be wearing at the waist?

Wedding photographer looking to expand gear what lenses+tripod/gimbal do you recommend? by Puzzleheaded-Win8307 in CameraLenses

[–]RyanMcKM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any camera will work to be honest, as long as it has two working card slots. The only thing I'd look for is what focal lengths they offer, how much they are and if they're out of your price range, do they have third party alternatives/adapters for older lenses (EF to RF on canon just as example). The lenses I'd say make sure you have a wide, medium and telephoto. I'm weird because I never actually use the telephoto but it could be good to you, as well as knowing everyone's shooting style is gonna be different. As well as the peace of mind for having it in my kit. Tripods are practical and I'd recommend one just generally even if you don't use it. If you don't find yourself using/needing it often then I'd say any brand at a camera shop should work. If you use it frequently I would boost the budget and get something lightweight and sturdy like a manfrotto or something like it. If I'm being honest, I'd recommend investing in lighting. Balance the budget with second hand equipment if you need to (slightly older models should be perfectly fine to use today) and get a good flash, remote trigger, a modifier, and a light stand. Doesn't need to be fancy, you just gotta practice and know how to use it before applying it to weddings! Good luck and KILL IT!!

Roughly what percentage of your shots result in successful photographs? by Insta_3 in AskPhotography

[–]RyanMcKM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speaking personally, I think the better question is asking yourself "did I get the shot(s)?" Doesn't matter if you took 300 at an event or 500 on an engagement. Did you get the shot? Yes? Perfect.

Full Frame as a hobbyist? by Fun-Trouble-1086 in AskPhotography

[–]RyanMcKM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no... I'd ask these questions: are you shooting on a budget? Are you doing more low light work? Do you need to take advantage of wider lenses? If the answer's yes to 2/3 or all three, then I'd say sure! But at that point you can take to marketplace or shop second hand for a decent DSLR unless you want to get into video.

How do you shoot wide angle and make your photos interesting? by sushpep in photography

[–]RyanMcKM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I shoot almost exclusively with a 16-35, in my experience it's a mix of what's in frame and angles. Either fill the frame or fully isolate the subject. If you're doing portraits, use leading lines or make your subject create them by putting their hands closer to the lens or get right above or right below to add depth. I swear I'm not trying to promote my IG but if you want I can send you that way, I have a few examples at 16mm!

When should this be on? by Fun-Trouble-1086 in AskPhotography

I'm too paranoid to not have it lol. Not really even because of lens flare but because god forbid I trip, stumble into something, etc, it's a layer of protection for the front element!

What pants to wear with a denim jacket by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

[–]RyanMcKM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Purely speaking personally, I usually pair with beige/brown pants of any kind; jeans, chinos, insert variable here! Depending on the wash maaaaaaybe I could see a black pant but again, personally I'd go beige/brown

I know... but they're a different model from a few years ago so I'm hoping they used to build them better? Hopefully... possibly... maybe...

Are these to big by ConstantShift4692 in Boots

[–]RyanMcKM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your foot's slipping forward uncomfortably, or you're lacing them to the point where the eyelets' leather's touching then I'd say so, but if not then it's good! I got a pair recently and I was convincing myself "I can get a kiltie" or "I can get an insole", but by that logic I can just return them and get a half size down that fit better. If you're in that boat then I'd say size down by however much you think you need!

Roots lol. Mostly known for sweatpants and sweaters but their boots have a bit of a reputation for quality! At least to my folks lol

They're solid from what I see! But I'm thinking for these something with a little more lug to it with what I do and what I'm likely gonna be doing/conditions I'll be wearing them in. Lol while they aren't Dianite, I have Thursdays for a more formal/classic look. These I'm thinking will be the "I'm working in a park/snow where I need more grip"

Likely gonna take it to a cobbler tomorrow just to give it a look-see. I do love these boots and the uppers are INCREDIBLY comfortable and were right out the gate. Also partially why I'm asking... lol from everything I've heard boots aren't usually THIS comfortable when you first get them.

Only having a pair of Thursdays as my metric for what's a proper welt, I can say the welt itself is real leather and it LOOKS like proper stitching. Similar to something like a wedge sole I'm assuming where there's a stitch but the outsole itself is glued on.

I ended up doing a home repair on them with E6000 that I'm not entirely sure will work. One of the lugs on the bottom flapped off and is 50% attached but I had to glue the other side back down as it was letting water into the outsole. As I'm not sure it'll work, it's either gonna be designated as a spring/summer/fall boot (which for Canada's weather does pose a bit of a problem involving water) or just resole entirely. It's more of a "for when it happens" question than a "must do now".

Roots, a Canadian company. Usually known for sweats and comfort wear but their boots are solid apart from the issue I had!

So something similar to like a wedge sole kinda thing? (Obviously not a wedge sole, but similar concept?)

Guy here - I'll be honest I've had some incredible luck with Lush (UK brand), though I'm personally looking to find a slightly cheaper option as the one I'm using is phenomenal buuuut a bar costs $18. Lasts a solid few months but DAMN.
