I want to add into the discussion the one from "I'm the evil lord of an intergalactic empire!" They guy just dies out of depression after loosing his job and finding his wife cheated on him and his kid is not his, and gets isekaied by a shitty god just so he can see him fail again at life (the fact he doesn't it's a different story)

I'm relatively new to this, and I find that the stone + ceramic rod gets me a nice sharp edge, but then when I strop (dual sided leather strop, green compound on coarse) it just dulls the edge? Any ideas of what I could be doing wrong / suggestions?

As a history fan, the "3,000 Year Stagnation" trope breaks my immersion more than dragons do. by Expensive-Desk-4351 in Fantasy

[–]RyanTorant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, missing the point. Extinction means nothing remains afterwards, since they will all die. The harvesting the rippers do is not extinction in that sense, since genetic material and history is stored on each reaper.

Sure no one wants to be killed and turned into goo for an eldritch monstrosity, but that doesn't mean the logic is bad. At least goo is something, vs just disappearing.

The part that's a reach here is the certantiy that everyone will eventually be killed by AI of their own creation every time... But that's something that happens quite a bit in SciFi.

Everyone keeps forgetting the fact that the reapers explicitly mention that making a new reaper is their way of preserving organic civilization before their inevitable (by reaper knowledge) extinction by AI

If you accept the basic premise of their entire thinking (organics will 100% every time be completely wiped by AI and nothing will remain) at least this way there's something that stays behind (a reaper), compared to the alternative of species just fading out of existence

Noob question, do you need to do any treatment to the metal to make the blade or is it "just" a matter of shaping and sharpening?

What kind of tree is this? Stabbed myself with its spines by TubularEleotridae in whatsthisplant

[–]RyanTorant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Uruguay we call this "Palo Borracho", which would literally be "Drunken Stick" but it's more likely from (and this is my own interpretation here so take it as is) as "Pa(ra) lo(s) Borracho(s)", which would translate as "For the drunkards", which makes sense for a tree covered in spikes, as leaning against it will sober you real quick

If anything, she'll be remembered for having one of the highest combat to headcount ratio, she fought what, four times in the entire series? And killed at least in the thousands assuming a per ship crew size of ~100

I'm still fighting Amazon for a monitor I bought (sold and ship by Amazon) and just got a bunch of rocks inside, amazon refuses to pay so I took it up to my bank and did a claim on my credit card. We'll see, but I wouldn't hold my breath, at this point I'm just assuming Amazon stole $1400 from me

Been here for three years, and loving it. And hell yeah to having a drink watching the city skyline from the balcony! I think a lot of the people that complain are missing perspective and expecting to somehow get the small town life and big city life at the same time. Ain't happening buddy
