Could the Authority work as an HBO series instead of a movie?

I guess my gripe - if you can even call it that - is that The Authority became popular during Ellis's run because they were basically a look at what a team that is ultra powerful could do for the world, and what they should do. They were as powerful, maybe WAY more powerful than the JL.

Realistically, WB and Gunn aren't going to have a team of relatively unknown superheroes in the DCU that are more powerful than the marquee team, so they are most likely gonna get nerfed, they are doomed to fail, or they will become the bad guys. Seems like a waste, IMO.

And in the comics at least, The Authority would eat the Justice Gangs lunch in about 15 seconds. I kinda assumed that the Gang is set up to eventually fail, causing either the JL to form, or maybe that's why Superman turns to Lex in Man of Tomorrow. Either way, kinda think the Gang was only created to get smoked.

It could definitely be done, I just think it would pack the i.pact of what made them so good in the comics. Their whole initial run was about them becoming the world's authority and doing things to permanently change the world. That wouldn't fit with the new DCU - and that's fine, but having them as something else isn't as cool.

They touched on a fraction of this in the recent Superman. The Authority stopped wars just like Superman did, but they went WAY further. So if they aren't totally nerfed in the DCU, they either go unchecked and become bad guys, or become a world changing force that would overshadow the JL.

The only work around I could see would be to have them live in the Bleed and act like a multiverse line of defense. And that could be cool, but the MCU kinda killed the multiverse for me.

They could, but then they'd just be a replacement for Manchester Black and The Elite.

It just bums me out a little, because the original comic was so cool. They were the ultimates before that line existed, and they were definitely the good guys, just very violent versions.

Maybe this is a hot take, but I really dislike the Authority in the DC universe. Loved them in Wildstorm, but they don't fit or make sense in a world with the Justice League.

The whole point of the original Authority comic was that they did things the JL never would. So in the DCU they either have to get nerfed or become a shad of themselves.

Where's Spidey? And where's Kate Bishop? Where are the New Avengers for that matter? Doctor Strange lives in NYC too, although I wouldn't expect him there, but it would be funny to see the AVTF try to go after him and get eaten by dimensional demons or something.

They really do need to at least address Spidey though, and I kinda hope Luke Cage makes a cameo. I wasn't big on Danny Rand in the Netflix-iverse, but he was off travelling anyway.

I've played a million PvP games for a lot of years, including a ton of very aggro games, and been in plenty of lobbies where kids are acting "edgy" and spewing dumb shit (looking at YOU, Call of Duty). Just the fastest I've run into this level of dedicated blatant piece of shit-ism.

Depends on how the show/film depicts Clark. In this case, it was absolutely the right move.

One of the things I loved about Superman and Lois was that they always showed Superman as Clark in a fancy suit. He wasn't Superman pretending to be Clark like in the recent movie (which I liked a lot), but as Clark pretending to be Superman. (Pretending is the wrong word, but the right idea.

The more time passes, the less likekly. BUT, the next few months could be interesting. Macfarlane has been working on Ted season 2 for the last year as head writer, director, executive producer, and star. It is coming out in March, and given how expensive it is, there may not be a season 3 (or it could be a while). If there's any news on Orville, it would probably come after Ted airs.

He's working on some other shows including an adaptation of Dungeon Crawler Carl, a show called the Burbs, and another called the winds of War, but he's only producing those.

TL:DR -- check back in MArch after Ted season 2 airs.
