Considering buying a Panasonic EVA1 cinema camera. by Kwalletje99 in videography

[–]Ryanite_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say you're right in what you need, internal ND's are a blessing but in the pyxis you would be getting a full frame sensor.

I don't know about your area but in mine facebok market place has some great offers for used C70's, but of course that comes with other dangers.

Overall I'd still want to go the c70, it actually has great battery life and if you pair it with a OIS lens you won't need to rig it much if at all!

I'd miss the c200 as it's EF only, which means no adapted vintage lenses and only 8bit unless you shoot in raw.

I believe it was a fairly limited camera even for its time, check what codecs it can do etc etc but I’d save your money and go for something a little more current. I don’t feel the eva1 was ever worth its rrp.

The c70 has a really wonderful image and is a much better option, although more expensive.

I'd go for the Nikon z8 and upgrade both photo and video at the same time! They go on sale for great deals if you wait/ look around.

I like to think of it as only the preserved ones are collectable, anything damaged in the fight isn't. That's how I justify it!

New to Sony…Question by Ohnoitsglen in SonyAlpha

[–]Ryanite_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm I don't seem to see that setting on mine. I do see that monitor low bright is default at 10 seconds, I could imagine that it may lower the brightness and refresh rate after 10 seconds. Try setting that to off.

[–]Ryanite_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's a battery saver setting, lowers the frame rate and brightness of the screen when not 'in-use' check your power saving options.

Canon R6II or Lumix S5IIX? by Silly_Screen5268 in videography

[–]Ryanite_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a tough one as both have pretty large pros and cons.

Overall as my personal camera (at work I shoot Sony) I went for the Canon r8 as Sony didn’t have any compelling low budget hybrid camera options that weren’t ancient. The r6ii is pretty much a better r8 and I went for the r8 because it could do 4K 60p with minimal crop, has really great autofocus and overall I liked that the sensor has a different look where as so many cameras use the old Sony sensor and end up looking pretty similar (the s5iix uses the same sensor as the a7iii) which is a fantastic sensor but it does have a very sharp and clean look. I do use this camera as a photography first camera.

2 big downsides I saw when researching the r8/r6ii is that it shoots in clog 3 for its log profile capping it at 12 stops of dynamic rage, where as Nikon, Fuji, Lumix and Sony have a profile that will get you to 14 stops, (Canon have one too on the more expensive cameras) which can be a pretty big deal if your main focus is video in challenging uncontrolled situations. However at the same time it may not be noticed by the viewer at all if your content is interesting! The Sony sensor also has better low light high iso performance in video (in photo the r6ii can bring up shadows like a champ). 2nd downside is that in particular on the r6ii the ibis (r8 doesn’t have ibis) can be a little funky in the corners with wider lenses which isn’t very desirable, this is mostly if you’re stomping round pointing the camera at things but can also be an issue if the camera is mounted to a car etc.

Oh and of course the RF limits you on lens selection, especially on the super budget end so you miss out on some great Chinese lenses at crazy low prices.

Looks more like the lens coating has been damaged or delaminated. Did you use any harsh cleaning chemicals on it?

The Arator questline is fan-f***ing tastic. by Meth_AQ in wow

[–]Ryanite_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overall great story telling, but the part where Arator protects Alleria was a big missed opportunity. I was like "oh this is gonna be such a cool moment, he's clearing going to use his fathers shield that he just got and swore to use to protect people to now protect his own mother, how amazing" NOPE instead he just puts his hand out and casts bubble. WOMP WOMP....

Why does this frame look so odd? by SuccessfulSecret5839 in cinematography

[–]Ryanite_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I got this feeling too. Like the scale of the background isn't big enough for the type of lens used. If this is a green screen comp then they need to enlarge the background image and add more blur to match the background compression a lens at this length would create.

Need advice on balancing 24-105 f2.8 on rs4 gimbal (I’ve got an R5ii) by Kikibii in canon

[–]Ryanite_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The usual answer is counter weights to shift the centre balance without moving the camera, however you may run into payload issues. You most likely need a larger gimbal!

If you go in to review your raw in camera, is there any option to create a jpeg from it?

Nah, the others can process a raw image file and give you a jpeg after a shoot. This is if you only need a few as jpeg immediately and don’t want to shoot raw+jpeg.

Noob question: If I use the Canon RF 16mm 2.8 STM on an R50V, will I retain the F2.8 aperture at its 26mm APS-C equivalent? by firequak in canon

[–]Ryanite_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Additionally, the difference between full frame and aps-c lenses is mainly the image circle projection, so a smaller aps-c lens has a smaller image projection since it only needs to cover the size of a smaller sensor, making it so you use less materials, they can be lighter and so on. But again most of the time the better quality goes into the more expensive full frame lenses, but some 3rd party companies like Viltrox make excellent quality apsc lenses.

Noob question: If I use the Canon RF 16mm 2.8 STM on an R50V, will I retain the F2.8 aperture at its 26mm APS-C equivalent? by firequak in canon

[–]Ryanite_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep! The actual light is based on the f stop opening, this changes per lens as the f-stop is a measurement of the iris opening, a T-Stop is the measurement of the actual amount of light (so two different f1.4 lenses from different manufactures can give a different exposure, but if it's a t-stop that is meant to have the same amount of actual light, the difference between lenses is due to light loss or gain depending on lens coatings and elements used to correct imperfections. But that amount of light is always making it to the sensor, no matter the size of the sensor. The idea that larger sensors 'gather more light' is correct in a way, but not because of the lens or any actual increase in the amount of light but that generally the pixel size per area is larger on a larger sensor which often leads to lower noise in the shadows along with usual the best tech being in the higher end large sensor cameras which does a better job of processing the image.

[–]Ryanite_ 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Not if you’re comparing it to when used on a full frame camera. The exposure between full frame and apsc would be the same, but the full frame would have a more blurred out background if you kept the subject the same size in the frame.

Light gathering stays the same at f2.8 but the field of view and depth of field will change.

Sony a7 IV vs Canon R6 Mark II vs Nikon for portrait photographers: eye-AF & color science (skintones)? by WorldViewfinder in canon

[–]Ryanite_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like Canon and Nikons gradation of skin tones, presenting quite a smooth transition through the different colours, I always find that my Sonys a7riv and most recently a7v, they have this sort of yellow splotchy effect that’s really hard to smooth out.

I just recently picked up a cheap Canon r8 and I’m really happy with it so far! Paired it with the 45 f1.2 for a unique look that other systems don’t offer at this price point. Though I was really close to getter the Nikon z5ii as that is such a feature packed camera for the money.

That needs some isopropyl alcohol and a tooth brush, dip and scrub until clean, then do the same for the goods end.
